  • I can install Blu-ray drive in any notebook? Is it possible to upgrade Macbook pro? Thank you.

  • isnt that an msi gt/gx660 or 680 laptop?.....doesnt it already come w/ bluray?

  • where did you get the bluray drive from? i cant find it on any websites!

  • I have a Asus G73, what Blue ray drive would you recommend?

  • Just installed my CT21N....It's not the same one in the video but it looks the same and it's just as awesome!!

  • why do u have to remove the blu ray face plate?

  • @AkramPropheci how else would you replace the faceplate?

  • @BToTech1 will the new optic , ( burn ) as well as play ?

  • Lol I was looking for a video about upgrading a Drive to Bluray I found your video and by coincidence we both have the same laptop.

  • Helped tremendously with my ASUS g73JH.

instructions are clear and everything is well explained.

    Thanks a lot !

    Big Thumbs up !

  • are blu ray drives compatible with toshiba satellite l305d?

  • Does any1 know where to get a blu-ray faceplate sticker to replace the dvd sticker? I've seen pictures of this laptop with a faceplate containing the blu-ray sticker

  • is it possible to take out a blueray drive from another laptop and install to another one? assuming they are both sata disc drive and same faceplate

  • if u do this will it still let uplay pc games?

and can u do it on a non sony pc?

  • if u do this will it still let uplay pc games?

  • can a dv1000 screen res. 1280 x 768 ( WXGA ) handle and play it smooth?

  • @caddyls yes but that is hardly high resolution. makes it pointless to get a bluray drive

  • @BToTech1 False and false. Yes, 1280x768 works just fine. Obviously it is high resolution (basically similar to 720p). And all the points to getting Blu Ray apply. A better picture and sound, not having to buy or rent movies and shows in multiple formats, etc.

  • @wolfpup3 Image "quality" is key. If an image has less quality it is easily noticeable when you are used to high quality images. the same in reverse. Image perception is when you think you are just ok with low resolution. On a tablet i dont mind low resolution. on a laptop or desktop i like my resolution high. Most computer enthusiasts do too.

  • what is the minimum graphics requirement to ensure smooth blu ray playback on a notebook?

  • @strobe9 any mediocre video card will do just fine. only requirement is 1920x1080 resolution.

  • @BToTech1 1920x1080 is absolutely NOT a requirement. Any screen on any modern notebook is going to work just fine.

You DO need relatively decent hardware to play back though. Any newish GPU with a newish CPU will work fine-a decent enough CPU with integrated graphics should even be able to do it, though (for example) an Atom CPU with integrated graphics isn't going to handle it.

  • would you think that the same drive also works for one of the hp's pavilion dv6 series notebook?

  • can you do this to a macbook pro??

  • @The9220 not exactly the same way but the concept is close

  • Nicely Done! You've made it so easy. After watching this video, I'm convinced that I can do it too. Thanks so much.

Btw, I have a Sony VPC-CW21FX/W that does not come standard w/ a blu-ray drive. It has a SATA HL brand CD/DVDRW drive. My budget kinda "tight" right now. Should I pick cheapest SATA blu-ray that has the same button orientation or should I pick an HL blu-ray drive? Your feedbacks or insights are greatly appreciated.

  • @ligerkingdom01 i am not familiar with sony but any bluray sata drive will work. the faceplate i am not too sure about though.

  • Mate you are proper heavy handed!! :-D

  • @MrBillUp thanks! i think?

  • Thanks for the video. I have the Asus G72GX and this video will help tremendously. I was thinking of getting the same LG blueray drive. Will it work with mine?

    Thanks

  • it should work just fine. do research and make sure the eject button on the drive you want to get is in exactly the same place as the current drive. From my experience i have tried numerous brands and have yet to find one where the faceplates to not match up. i think they finally made them standard.

  • @joec220 It does, I have the same lap, asus g72 17.3" and was very easy, just be very carefull with brackets

  • @joec220 absolutely!

  • will a slot load drive still fit?

  • it will fit just fine but likely the faceplate will not. it will work but it will look weird

  • My laptop has a PATA optical drive. Is there anyway that I can install a SATA optical drive with my laptop? I want a SATA drive because they are newer and faster.

  • you can not do that. if you have pata you can only use pata

  • Does this voids the warranty from ASUS?

  • no it does not. you will not have warranty on your optical drive but the rest of the unit will have warranty left

  • Thank you for the information.

  • usualy adding ram or swaping out drives as an upgrade wont affect your main warranty, athough some manufactures specify that this must be done by a qualifyed service technitian and they normaly supply a service sticker with date of instalation to prove it was done by a qualifyed service technitian, its best to check as some places might charge a fortune in labour costs for this, i would personaly recomend doing this by one self as its not that hard to do really :)

  • just one question why do you have to change the faceplate, can't I just leave the faceplates as is?? please let me know

  • Usually you can leave it as it is. SOmetimes the opening is not exactly square. In general you dont want your laptop to look like a pos so it is good practice to finish your projects.

  • but if it fits perfectly then I can just leave it, right?

  • if it fits perfectly then it looks perfectly. if it doesnt look perfect then it does not fit perfect. It is a matter of personal preference. it will not hinder the drives operation if that is what you are asking

  • thank you so much, I really appreciate it

  • most laptops come with custom facings such as compaq or acer which like to make there machines look sleek

its way better to change out the faceplate

if the buttons line up correctly then viola!

some drives also come with a bluray sticker to pop onto the stock facplate like mine had, looks better too rather than a pretty standard looking faceplate

  • your the best, I was looking for this every where and your video was by far the best I found, THANKS

  • No problem! i will take a 5 star rating for it! :)

  • oh thats for sure
