It will work for everyone, it just might take some time to find the right angle/distance/etc. It took me a couple of tries to do it. There is a spot on your eye where there are no receptors, but your brain automatically fills it in with what's on either side of it (hence why you can see the orange wall and the bar). However, if it's something like a head or a clock, your brain will not be able to fill it in, and it will disappear.

Its a blind spot we all have in our eyes.  I found it really amazing that i could see the black bar completely!. Neat stuff!

Its not an illusion, its a physical inability of the eye to see at a particular location. An illusion is where the brain is receiving an image and then makes assumptions on it that aren't actually true(i.e. the hollow mask illusion where in actual fact you are looking at the inside but your brain is telling you that the face is outwards). The closest this comes to being an illusion is when he raises the bar, and even then, its more a physical blending than anything.

anyway, full screen, and keep your head horizontal. sit up straight like grandma told you to! doesnt work if your tilted.

now you just gotta find the right distance. also make sure you can distinct left from right.

I think it's because the left part of your brain is not doing the right job it is like let me put it this way.... tht X is where the right eye is suppose to be and the man suppose to be the one on ur left eye.. so tht means by doing this you are using your left eye for your right eye and right eye for your left eye... im not goood at explaining stuff lol

I went at Lazik MD in downtown Montreal for an exam. I had a test where i had to put a mask before one of my (can't remember wich one i think the right one) eye to see if it was the dominant as for most of the people she said. And the magic of disapearing gizmo was involved meaning that my left eye was the one i use to aim my look on things.

I thought the same thing, but I kept trying, and I found it... It's a small position, relative to your screen. It's a blind spot of the eye, which is cause by the optic nerve crossing over something... but anyways, pretty much every animal has it... I know some don't... but all humans do

It's a result of your eye anatomy and placement. The retina of the back of your eye is made up of millions of receptor except for one small tunnel. This tunnel acts as a pathway for the receptors to feed the information to the brain. This tunnel is also a "blind spot" such that the image is directed at the blind spot, it has no receptors to detect it, and thus your brain "sees" nothing.

Eh.. his trick has a major flaw. Those who are not right-eye dominant will have all kinds of trouble doing this. Best I can get at -any- distance is his head area goes kinda fuzzy, but it doesn't vanish like he says at all. I hate tricks like this.. some people they work, some like me just have to sit back and ignore it.  :P

It will work if you go very very slow and pay close attention. It didn't work the first time for me, than I tried it again but covering my left eye and string at the man, and it worked. Than I tried it the first way again, but had to move my head backwards and forewards to finally find my 'blind spot' so you just have to keep trying. If it doesn't work, your just not paying close enough attention.

Guys, this is easy to do. Just try looking at it from different distances, as not everybody's blind spot is going to be the exact same.

The brain does take the surrounding information and fill it in to make the image appear full. Even before the black bar, it was happening with the orange background, and it happens anytime you close one of your eyes.

I know the head disappearing is your eye's "blind spot", and I'm guessing that the fact that you can see all of the bar is that your brain "fills in" the spot that disappears on the bar because it predicts that it should be there. Not sure why, though.
