Actually, slavery as a custom was started in ancient Mesopotamia and later used by Africans against other Africans (it wasn't uncommon for ancient Egyptians to keep slaves and they are technically of a darker skin color and African in origin). Whites didn't start enslaving Africans until very recently in history and it wasn't nearly as widespread as it was in places like Egypt. Shorter lived too.

this movie is more about how the europeans came to america in search of riches and they met the native americans. if you know your history you will realize that this is what the movie was based on. anyways there was a great message to the movie. a message of peace, and harmony within nature. not everything can be done with force. I myself thought it was incredible, but I've heard others who have legitimate reasons to have issues with it. The plot for me was great. What more do you people want. This movie deserves a lot of praise. This is a movie were I would say that CGI was used beutifully and accurately. I felt I wanted to be in that place. Facial expressions- this movie would be hard to beat for that.

i have watched Fern Gully, and i can see what you mean about the angles, but its only because its a huge alien forest while in fern gully its because the fairies are so small it creates a similar sense of scale.

Theres also a similar scene with the logging vehicles almost crushing the protaganists which i see as as only cosmetic.

I do acknowledge however, that the film does use archetypes, but so many films do, and it doesnt detract from this film being excellent in it's own right.

Avatar is NOT a great movie. Yes, the visual aspects are beyond imagine that I cant touch. Though storytelling wise we're getting ripped off. Visuals only go so far with a movie. The jarhead Marine leader, the slimy corporate executive, the tough ass bitch on wheels with a heart of gold, to the simple native people who are shown to be victims of "the sky people" which is a veiled way of saying "white man". Each plot point is predictable. Every single one. That is the result of a bad script.

Yes and No, to this being a great movie. Visual 10 out of 10. Story/Plot 0/10 (because it's a complete rip off) Creative Intuition 10/10 (because they created a new race, a new world and point of view for you to see that never existed and was awesome!) Good Movie.
