I think it was just the equalizing or maybe the microphone on the camcorder, because I could still hear her vocal inflections but they were way harder to hear.
Well, u r right, but her voice used to be gorgeous, is now more delightfull, but is allways unique, I dont think she's getting better, She just njoys what she does, saying ''u know what? lets play with that song''!
This song gives me chills, as does most of her repertoire....the only bad thing i can say about Joanna is that she doesnt come to Chicago enough...bless her, and bless all those that put their heart into their music as much as she does.
i saw her last friday at the chicago symphony and it was indescribably beautiful. absolutely breathtaking. by her last song my eyes were flowing like a river and my heart was soaring. blass her, and may she never stop making records...though PLEASE, Joanna...more frequently!
great. It's like peering in on an angel in an unguarded moment of sadness or remorse, not sure if angels feel sadness but probably after hearing something this passionate
Am seing her at Sommerset House in London in a few days time, can't wait!!! She is phenomenal, saw her in Royal Albert Hall and has goosebumps all over :)))
her singing style has really been evolving! don't get me wrong, i adore all of her music, but her voice sounds more 'normal' here than i've ever heard it
This would be better if I could understand more of what she's singing. I had that problem with Ys too, until I looked at the lyrics. But oh well. Sounds beautiful still.
I was at this show with my daughters. Amazing evening of music. I found it completely annoying when some guy thought the artist should alter the volume. Like watching a painter and saying "hey you really ought to use yellow instead of amber there". Like they didn't do a sound check for two hours prior. Other than that is was a brilliant evening of artistry.
I got a chance to go to this show. It was the best show I have yet to see. This song is so beautiful, I hope she comes out with a new album soon, I have just about worn out Milk-eyed-mender abd Y's
aww i was there!!!!!!!!!! i was sitting behind the stage so its nice to see this from a different angle! if you have any other videos you should load them up! i love reliving the experience! :DD
This sounds great. Amazing show. Although I have to agree with the guy who yelled to turn up her vocals. They were not loud enough in person (and I was in the front orchestra section).

what is with her voice in this song. it sounds so clear and mainstream. it used to be so much more indie! i love it that way. its so much more unique

yeah i see what you mean. it's a far cry from songs like 'inflammatory writ.'

I think it's on purpose. She seems like she's trying to keep this song sounding gentler.

joanna newsom merely has one of those voices that just improve with age and/or use.
you can hear it in the progression of her albums

amazing how she went from having a scratchy, idiosyncratic voice to this soaring beautiful clear voice...

not really amazing, she has always had a beautiful voice. in this song she just isn't affecting her voice as much.

if you read the lyrics to this song it sounds like she wrote this song to someone she used to be in love with. its kind of sad, but so sweet.
