That day, like several preceding, she and other ISM volunteers worked to stop the destruction of Palestinian property and civilian infrastructure. None of the volunteers intended or hoped to die.

But, Rachel's story has set in motion many series of events that have brought many Palestinian voices directly to Americans and others around the world. She was not demonstrating for peace, she was interfering with a military operation to legally demolish an empty house used to conceal terrorists. Her death is no more tragic than the deaths of other young people who died in bombings committed by Palestinian terrorists. At least she made her choice. Palestinian terrorists didn't give the young people killed in their bombings any choice in their deaths.

The reason Rachel is a martyr is that she was actively engaged in non-violent resistance- an act of bravery whose purpose was to save a family from being crushed in their own home by a bulldozer. Actually, you are incorrect. There were men women and children in the home she defended. I know that's true because I met them, and know them. They traveled to the US to speak about peace, and had to go to Tel Aviv to get paperwork before the trip.
