Perhaps in the future someone will invent a bomb that creates a cloud of sand. As the helicopter landing.Special Units soldiers could enter the city /village under cover of clouds of sand. And kidnap / kill terrorists, or rescue the hostages.
There is nothing worse than being the old crew chief in the back yelling at the new (to dust landings) pilot to keep his airspeed up and fly that SOB into the ground!! I guess that is a hard thing for the guys right outta Rucker to understand! Take Care and fly safe!!
Wow, Thx for sharing this. I raced a desert car yrs ago. In a car you can keep your orientation for a while in heavy silt dust. Can you do that in a helicopter? Seems like it would be very difficult as there are more forces acting on a helicopter (wind) and less input from the terrain. I guess what I am asking is are you able to know exactly where the ground is after a few secs in the dust? Thx for serving.
Great vid man.... Wish you could have some in cockpit footage. If ya have any of that, can you post it? I need some for some geeks to help make our black hawk sim better looking for dust ops. I only have some from a chinook, but it's not great.
Not really, the task in the ATM is vague at best and besides, this is only ONE method of a dust landing. But I will say this method has been proven to be the safest and least dangerous tactic for both crew and aircraft. I didn't create the tactic I just preached and used it with great success.

Great vid. Solid advice and technique. There are a few dust landing techniques, but there isn't a better one for the UH-60

This is why I'm glad I'm flying guns. Don't have to do shit like this. I'll just land at my FARP.

Cool footage, but I would bet your target audience could look up the task if they really needed to.
