Even China sent a master martial artist to defeat Bruce to prevent him from teaching his own style, and Bruce Lee put their fighter to shame. Based on Lee's history he was an incredible martial artist. It's impossible to know if he was the best, but don't judge from movies.

If you really believe that you haven't done much looking into Bruce Lee. He was a philosopher, acting career aside. He set the stage for mixed martial arts, and was a catalyst in breaking away from traditional arts. Half of what you see in his movies he would never do in a real fight. Martial Arts weren't a sport to him. He described it as a form expressing the human body. I'm no 'Bruce fanboy', the man wasn't perfect. But his impact on the MA scene is blatantly clear.
