  • Awesome! I love irish music, i can imagine mountains and rivers and a forest sooo beautiful :D Hey do you know where i can find this song? thanks :)

  • sumthing about any traditional music that speaks to me

    what beauty and majesty

  • If I had the money, I'd buy one and write a whole album around it. Beautiful. *wipes away tear*

  • Beautiful!

If I may make a request, could you play Jade's Theme from the game "Beyond Good and Evil"?

  • like i'm in a forest with leprachun, a unicorn and double rainbow man. i'm in love with such music.

  • Deadly

  • This made me so happy! I looooooove Irish folk music! <3 <3 <3

  • Comment removed

  • How do u do that, its like magic!! haha x

  • Reminds me of the music from Stronghold 2 that and my grandparents house hahah

  • its quite sad that i had to learn the name of this song from youtube?? and im actually in kildare!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL-SOUND...PEACE

    RENAISSANCE_R'MAY

  • Blue man groups best instrument...

  • wow i haven't heard this since i visited my cousin last year in Dublin! ah such fond memories...

  • Absolutely beautiful...thank you!

  • love the sound. i forgot how well celtic music sounded on the hammer it has been a while sense i was near one. i play the mountain myself tho i havent picked it up for going on about 8 months for lack of interest. anyway keep playing would love to hear more

  • Every time I hear Irish folk music it makes me proud of my heritage.

We have the best folk music.

There Irish then ten miles behind is everyone else tied for second.

  • @rrtodd95 I couldn't agree more with you mate. Tis the greatest of all folk music and the greatest and proudest of all cultures while still being one of the most modest countries in the world.

  • Is it difficult to learn how to play this instrument? It sound so beautiful, but it looks like it has a steep learning curve.

  • oh god this is gorgeous!

  • It was effectively (and hautingly) used in "Sour Times" by Portishead.

  • oh my goodness!

i used to listen to this when i was little- it was always my lullaby so i could sleep. I didn't know that it was called Rakes of Kildare! i always called it "Horses in the Meadow"... <3

  • I have never heard of this kind of instrument and I'm a metal too. But my point is,man that's sounds really beautiful :)

  • You should pair up with someone who plays a hurdy-gurdy

  • Dulcimer makes one of the most beautiful sounds I know.

Holy Machine... this is better even than my favourite TB-303!

  • wonderfully done, I can't imagine how hard it must have been to learn to play one of those.

  • great job!

  • how much does it cost replace and how long does it take to replace the strings? O_o

  • Uwaa~! Celtic music reminds me of my roots~!

Danke for the awesome upload! :3

  • this combined with a couple of tin whistles would be amazing...

  • You DO need a patron to scoop you up! :) This is fantastic.

  • This song is one of my faves and hearing it on the dulcimer gave me chills. How in the heck have I never heard it played on this before. lol Thanks a lot, well played.

  • I'd buy your CD. That is a beautiful instrument btw.

  • love irish music even tho im a metalhead....i dunno why...i just do..........:]

  • @Rockerboy3872

Nothin wrong with that, Rockerboy! There is some fantastic trad music out there, just as mind blowing as heavy metal! x

  • @tradfolkie agreed

  • @tradfolkie is that u playing??? you are awsome

  • @tradfolkie

How much does this instrument costs?

  • @tradfolkie What's some good bands that play traditional Celctic? I know some like Stille Volk and stuff but I want to knwo more!

  • @Rockerboy3872

Your not the only metalhead that loves Irish music!

    Shits the bomb.

  • @TheBekkalee hellzyea man, its da shit

  • @Rockerboy3872 Lol, I was just about to comment the same thing.

  • @ZanzaVirus well then, keep havin awesome taste in music man, u rock!

  • @Rockerboy3872 Me too bro

  • @Rockerboy3872 Metal music comes from mythology, the Norse Gods, the Irish tales, they are completely connected. One of the greatest examples of this is Led Zeppelin

  • @shossni you know your shit dude haha

  • @Rockerboy3872 prolly because a boatload of metal was inspired by folk music.

  • @Rockerboy3872 hay mate! if you like a good irish jig from time to time and metal, try a band called INEXTREMO IT IS A MIX UP OF BOATH!!! and let me tell ya it sounds grate!

  • @Rockerboy3872

Good chance once you are 50 or so you might be and classic addict.

Its amasing what just passing time may do to us.

  • @Rockerboy3872 It's interesting, on most of these celtic or medieval music videos there are lots of comments by people like us (I'm a metaller too). I don't know what the connection is between metal and this music, but there definitely is one. I'm really into folk metal so that must be it for me. I suppose it's probably because both metal and this music takes actual talent to produce, which may explain why some of us also like classical stuff.

  • @Rockerboy3872 i reason and one reason only, it fucking rocks

  • @Rockerboy3872

have you heard of folkmetal? you might like it, it tends to have celtic influences

  • @Rockerboy3872 Ever hear of "Celtic Frost"?

Also, remember the Celts were bad-ass craftsman - taught the English everything they know about weapons and tools and most importantly . . . . before all that were continental nomadic warriors squaring off against the likes of Atilla the Hun.

All these centuries later that rebel spirit has distilled through Celtic music and great whiskey!

  • @Rockerboy3872 I completely agree with 'tradfolkie', there is music out there that is just amazing and beautiful. I'm a metalhead too dude, and I find music like this incredible.

I have a theory that people are moved by music that comes from their ancestry background, for example, I'm descended from Gauls - through invasion and conquest - and the Gauls span off to create the Celtic on the British Isles. I have a strange affinity for Celtic music...it makes me feel...chilled, and content.

  • @rapchill1234 I agree because I love this sort of music but I also listen to a lot of Korean music and I don't think I'm Asian at all haha.

  • @Rockerboy3872 It's because folk music is nerdy and a lot of metal heads are nerds, lol. (including me)

  • @snailswigbee not the same story with me tho, but i still like this music

  • @Rockerboy3872 Indeed! I'm a metalhead as well and I even own a hammered dulcimer! Haha.

  • @Rockerboy3872 very similar styles. 4/4 timing with ass kickin melodies. Any Irishman will tell you Trad IS rock and roll dude. There are many metal heads, like myself, who play trad instruments and tunes as well.

  • @Rockerboy3872 same here

  • @Rockerboy3872 Yeah, mate. I'm a big fan of Rammstein and I still like that kind of music and even some Beethovan is nice.

  • @Rockerboy3872 Check out Leaves' Eyes - Scarborough Fair.....trad music + metal = epic : )

  • ONE instrument that can carry the right balance of melody/tone/rythm, the way a hammered dulcimer does, can be more powerful than a stage full of cranked instruments. It's like somebody who can get your deepest attention with a simple phrase instead of a whole bunch of words. My mind can relax and wrap itself around the simple and full sound 'song story' an HD 'tells' in a very different way than I would enjoy metal. In the brain..music is very simple/basic...melody. HD masters that.

  • @Rockerboy3872 dued its commen im the same way

  • @Rockerboy3872 If you do some research, you'll find that metal is actually the closest thing nowadays to Renaissance-era classical music. And with bands like Korpiklaani, there's folk instruments being played along with metal instuments.

  • @Rockerboy3872 lol me 2

  • @Rockerboy3872 Might want to checkout Celtic Metal :D

  • @Rockerboy3872 Try Eluveitie. It's a friggin; awesome band.

  • @Rockerboy3872

Thankfully we have a lot of Folk Metal out there to satisfy our musical needs :D

Love the hammered dulcimer, beautiful instrument.

  • @NordicFortune Good old Empyrium, hey? ;D

  • @TheDeathOfCaligari

Yessir! That, Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, Dalriada, Metsatöll, Kivimetsan Druidi, and much much more :D. Gotta love it!

  • @Rockerboy3872

I don't know about you, but it get's my blood pumping in the same way metal does, to me that is why...might have something to do with my Irish background, too.

  • @Rockerboy3872 man me too, i genuinely think a lot of metal has roots in folk, and i mean real metal, a lot of melodies have a similar drive imo

  • @Rockerboy3872 If you're a metal head and you like irish music, check out folk metal! its practically a mix of the two. :P

  • @5eizur3

This really sounds like Epica - Quietus.

  • @5eizur3

    No it doesn't!

Sorry getting two songs mixed up haha!

    Carol

  • Lovely.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Beautiful.

  • This song is beautiful

  • Loved it... And I'd be a patron.

  • Beautiful, thanks!! I love this magic sound!!!!

Can anyone help me? I'm Italian and I would buy this instrument, but here in Italy can not be found! Can anyone recommend a good website or maker (e-commerce) who sells it? Thanks ^_^

  • @luxamorveritas Just saw the post. Look at James Jones Instruments, or Jerry Reed Smith, go to site Everything Dulcimer, they have a list of active builders and tons of information as well as online teaching videos you can sign up for monthly for only 15 dollars. I just bought a custom dulcimer from James Jones...they are beautiful, and not as expensive as Jerry's...there are lots of good builders in different price ranges. The people on Everything Dulcimer are VERY helpful.

  • Beautiful playing. :)

  • stumbled upon, and it's just gorgeous music :)

  • How much do these run?

  • AYE! BRING ME AN ALE

  • That was absolutely gorgeous.

  • Thanks!

  • This is amazing, do you make audio recordings of yourself?

If you made a cd, or put up an album on iTunes, I'd buy it. without hesitation,

  • 'Fraid I don't but maybe I should! If I could afford to stop working and just practice the dulcimer all day I woudl make a CD! Any patrons out there?!!!!!!

  • @tradfolkie

There are ways to take sound from videos that you already have and just put them onto a disk. See what happens, present the music to some local big shot, and see if he likes it!! :3

  • @tradfolkie

What country do you live in (are you in the U.K., or the U.S.)?

  • @tradfolkie I would definitely buy this. It sounds fantastic. :)

  • This is my first time ever seeing one of these things. I loved listening to you play that tune.

  • great first stumble :D

  • sweet :D

  • I had a feeling the Dulcimer my wife bought ten years ago was supposed to have hammers. it's configured like this, but came with a pic. Which I'm sure is acceptable, but kinda weird to play.

  • This is the most awesome thing I've seen in weeks. <3 Stumbleupon

  • This is awesome medieval music :)

  • This is really cool. I love it <3

  • Very, very good. Lovely harmonic qualities!

  • I love this ... is this sung known under any other name? Because I recognize it, but I don't know where from

  • Thanks melisluv06, glad you liked. Is that what 'they' are saying??!!!!! 'It's fake - ye canny see the strings!' Honestly , you couldny make it up - you do your best and somebody always has to pick on something! I know its not a great quality video, it just never occurred to me that the strings were not visible. I can assure all viewers, that I am playing this instrument and IT MOST CERTAINLY DOES HAVE STRINGS!!!!!!! :-}

  • This is great!

Now all you gotta do is wait for the obligatory "oh dats fake. i cant see da stringz" comment.

  • This is the first time I've seen... Or heard of an Acorn... That's pretty cool, awesome sounds, and it sounded really good. :)

  • Thanks very much, Aplod69. The Oakwood people are one of the best, main dulcimer makers in the UK, they also make lovely melodeons too. I certainly think the Acorn has a super tone. AND IT DOES HAVE STRINGS!!!!!! :-}
