  • Nice! makes me want to finish the last 3 cords or so I have...definitely backsaving

  • Thank you very very very very much!

  • You got a nice place there ;) im slightly envyous. Ill move to such a place when i retire in about 45 years or so :p. I live in norway, i hope there is some forest left for me then. I help to take care of a forest area that the father of a friend owns, i love that, we only take things that are either in danger of falling or has already done so, then we plant new trees there :)

  • Not bad at all ! Well done !

  • bro you need to do the bending over part to get the tire off your waist. lol jk. im a fatty to:P

  • It always bugs me when I get my exercise just doing the things I need to do because then it's not exercise anymore, it's work. You know what I mean?

  • exelent idea, thanks.

  • wow what a place to live.....nice

  • This is why fat old men are usually in charge of the young, energetic men.

  • Awesome trick. Thanks for the video. One other benefit I see is if your inexperienced at splitting wood, and you miss the piece of wood, the axe stays trapped inside the tire, not swinging down, and taking out your leg. LOVE IT...

  • Yeah it's good until you cross split one and break you maul handle.

  • 52 Tree Huggers have been here!?

  • Freakin genius, really. From a guy who has chopped a fair amount of wood, that is amazing.

  • very clever...labour and time saving device.

What happens if you hit the rubber with the Axe and it bounces back and cuts your head off? i spose that there would be a splittin' headache hahahha

  • Did I hear you say the Mine? is across the street?

  • I like it very cheap to make, thank you for share us your idea

  • necessity is the mother of invention.

granny would have loved this- she was always one for "work smart not hard".

saves yourself a lot of time.

i use a Devin, LOLOL.... my neighbor- he's 27yo great kid, has a strong back (and a major appetite), but i think i'll tell him about this anyways - he deserves it. i think he'll like it.

    thank you for sharing.

  • how can u dislike that nice idea

  • Hmmm... now if we could think of a less labour intensive way to dry clothes. Unless you are going for the outdoorsy smell and wood chips in your fresh clothes.

  • That is a very neat trick. Still need an axe though :( lol

  • great! im a schornsteinfeger,.. from germany,. i see alot cool stuff but you rool.. more power to you. Tobias Roseboom. schornschteinfeger,. (cimney)

  • And this boys and girls, is why human beings have flourished for so long. Resourcefulness!! So few have it these days. Well done Sir. Excellent tip. Thanx

  • Makes a world of difference. Great tip

  • That Is Just PERFECT !! ----Great vid !!

  • The Power is with you!

  • clever! I salute you!

  • Someone give this guy a novel prize - they're going to have to think up a new one for this though.

  • Love your innovation!

  • Great Idea! Im going to have to try this!

  • cool idea. Thanks. You are a strong guy to be doing so much wood. You are in good shape.

  • Drill a few holes in the sidewalls and water will run out. No mosquitoes and don't need to cover it up.

  • smart man.

  • cheep

  • great idea!!

  • well, is that clever 'r what...

  • nova scotia ya say b'y! from pictou county nova scotia myself

  • for someone who can chop wood so well, you should maybe do the bending over and picking it up, fitness wise that's all. Good idea champ on the tyre though :)

  • Did I just watch 10 minutes of a guy chopping wood?

  • Молодец мужычек ,умница

  • cool

  • grate video! this has helped me alot

  • this man's a damn genius.

  • haha, what a way, faster than log splitter and you get the exercise , love it 8D

  • Try that with a piece of locust. Its a good idea though.

  • splitting wood with a axe.....in a tire:D

  • You smart bastard :D

  • 10 minutes to explain this? I think you just like the sound of your own voice. Your title should read splitting wood with a tyre in the vicinity.

  • Sell the wood and buy a spliter

  • Me gusta

  • Good video, thanks

  • Does it matter what size tire?

  • @HOAG07 No the size is not important what ever works for you but I do find that a wider tire is better than a narrow one. I do move the block to the wood pile I happen to be working on at the time.

  • @HOAG07 has to exactly a 225 75 16 or it will explode killing everyone with in 20 feet

  • @HOAG07 Yes, very important to use goodyear radial snow tires....

  • Why dont you take your tire down to the wood pile?

  • Nice idea man!!

  • Thank you ever sooo much for posting up this great video!

    God bless you!

  • simple the best

  • Great idea. But it took you 10 minutes to explain what could easily be explained in 30 seconds.

  • maby the money you saved in taxes moving out of the city ? you could invest in a logsplitter ? just a thought ? lol good video tho nice idea

  • HOLY SHAT!!!!!!! That's a MILLION dollar idea! GREAT VIDEO

  • Thanks for the idea. I have the same problem, hit it once and have to stop, bend, pick up an reset. Does a number on my back. Going to a tire place and ask them for an old tire. you da man. Nice piece of property you got going. Where abouts are you? in in NY

  • GAY!!!!

  • I love the irony between the fact that you use a tire to split wood and wood for a tire. Nice!

  • nice axe! your yard looks like a tornado hit

  • sweet idea

  • Thank you for sharing.

Nice tip will use it as soon as I get my own little wood place.

  • I have never figured out why people split their wood so small.

  • @jjsjeffjjsjeff small fireplaces / grates / stoves maybe??

  • NICE TIP

  • NICE SPLITTING..

  • This is actually faster than that piece of shit widowmaker crap I watched a minute ago.

  • you can use a bungie cord and a small length of chain in place of a tire as well

  • @TheLudwig457

or even stack two tires on top of each other and duct tape or bolt them together

  • @TheLudwig457 Someone just saw This Old House. I came here to tell him that.

  • @squeehunter

I've used the chain quite a few times, it works really well for larger diameter. up to 30" and its been very efficient

  • Thanks for sharing, this is a great idea. When SHTF we will have lots to do, this will make it a little easier.

  • Great lesson for us woodsplitters.

  • Woodsplitters are too slow for me, and some you still have to lift the log in place. Also the heavier the maul the easier the splitting. Thanks for the tip !

  • I live on firewood, exclusively. This is a neat trick. What I would do is drill some weep holes underneath to let rain water drain out. Also I dont like lifting wood up onto a log, I prefer chopping on the ground on top of thick plywood, its safer too. When I first cut the drums, I like to line them all up in a row, and kapow them right down the line. Then line the halves up and do it it again.

  • Hey that was cool :-)

  • Thanks for sharing this, I know it will save me endless back aches! Happy Holidays to y'all!

  • My dad always said, "kids are for picking up and stacking the split wood" lol

  • great idea and video thanks

  • Bless your heart you are a tough cookie..:-))

  • poor guy he has to pay for land that god made :/ screw you goverments

  • Awesome job! I was wondering what the tires were for in the other video, now I know. Just don't throw your back out.

  • Are you wearing safety glasses?????????

  • you need to do that shit every day man not just for the new camera

  • Good idea. Whatever wood that is, it sure splits nice.

  • @dahveed284 The wood is white spruce, but i've splite black spruce it tougher, birch and maple split easy enough.

  • Great stuff - Great769

    Just subscribed!

  • Brilliant indeed! I just found some old tires and now have a use for them (other than growing potatoes in them)

  • Brilliant!

  • Great idea splitting the wood is difficult enough for me; let alone to keep stoping to pick up the pieces..

    :))

  • nice swing !!

  • What kind of wood is that? Very rarely have i had wood split that easily even with a #12 monster-maul.

  • Great idea! Glad my wife sent me the link!

  • That is excellent! You deserve a beer for this! :)

  • @smrki1 -- I think he needs more than A beer... big ole boy like that needs SIX!

  • A very good idea, but you could've shown us that in 2mins, not 10.

  • He is really good with the axe.

  • er... great idea, but why carry all the logs to the tire and not the tire to the logs :) you are one strong mofo btw :)

  • Simply Brilliant!

  • Love it!

  • thanks

  • Nice technique. Thanks for sharing\

  • Thanks

  • Brilliant

  • Wow, this is great, and so simple. Many times the simplest ideas are the best adeas

  • Very smart!

  • great as long as you've got easy split wood

  • If you hadnt posted this I would have been chasing around splits for the rest of my life!...Very nice- simple- solution, Thanks..I knew I kept that old tire for something!

  • a "H"erb garden. that's where uncle Herb is, they buried him there!

  • This guy is a genius. When the zombie apocalypse hits I'm going to his house.

  • A circle has chords, they are lines that start and end on the circumference. One special chord is the diameter. Chop short chords, not diameters, you wont need the tire and likely wont want the chopping block.

Someone asked what maul. Use an 8 pounder. Lots of wood just laughs at a six.

BTW I split Oak, fruit wood and some elm. Some of it is dry before I split it. This stuff looks like fun

The tire looks like fun too, but I split on the ground and my wood doesn't run away.

  • @decaudata Short logs bust easy, and the stuff I split was bigger than his tire. LoL

  • To many pop up captions

  • Sorry to see the wilds of Nova Scotia also have chemtrails above them.

  • nice idea dude..way to use the ole noodle.

  • I have just been splitting logs all afternoon and chasing after them all over the garden! You're idea is absolutely excellent! - Much less work and less backache! I am going to get an old tyre asap!!

  • You sir are a genius; I shall implement your design and tell others of your work.

  • Awesome. Thank you for that demonstration!

  • stupid newbie wood stove question: is it ok to use almost any wood, as long as it is seasoned (fruit trees, dogwood, sweetgum)?

  • I am using your tire concept and it is wonderful. I can split a lot more wood before wearing out my back now. THANK YOU!!!

  • this is why chain saws where made

  • es una buena idea, pero el mango de la hacha queda tocado del resto de la madera una vez abierta. Es imposible esquivar al resto de leña que entre en contacto con el mango y lo acabe rompiendo.

good idea, but the handle gets broken after touching the splited wood.

  • ok, so you took a log and made a tire, then took a tire and made a log holder. creative

  • genius. i love this man already. i have great respect for those with ingenuity. it so happens i have a couple tire that aren't usable for anything else. thank you very much.

  • OH SHIT, it's Ron Swanson!

  • I've been splitting wood at my folks for 10 years now....... why didnt I think of this? *facepalm*

  • Red Green lives!!!!!

  • not to be a troll but its spliting wood in a tire not with a tire

  • Everyone search "vipukirves" from youtube, and select first video.

It's pretty nice finnish invention, and saves time + strenght.

  • IT WORKS!!

  • Nice find

  • What maul are you using?

  • @catskinner650 Hi I picked up in a yard sale it a 6 lb dont know the maker.

  • @great769 Nice the 6lb is easier to maneuver then the more common 8 lb'r

  • @great769 Btw name of video should have been.. "crazy man with an axe" lol

  • clean up, man!

  • you da man thx for sharing

  • nice property

  • I can only see one probem with that idea. You're spending a lot of time hitting the belly side of the shaft on the logs which in time will mash it up causing it to weaken and break

  • Wonderful! thank you for sharing xoxo

  • Good tip, Thanks

  • I am too lazy to chop wood. So i have furnace big enough to put 1m(3ft) long clubs/logs, without the need for splitting. It runs for central heating, too.

  • aswome

  • genius

  • This is frickin brilliant!!!!

  • IMHO it would be safer NOT wearing gloves.. you would have a better grip on the axe so it could not slip..

  • Ohhhh i thought yo meant actaully chooping wood using a tire....... I'm stupid

  • that wood never had a chance :c

  • I like that idea!

  • good idea bit I would need a tractor tire for the wood I cut.

  • very nice, work smarter not harder ;)

  • put some holes in it to let the water out and it's right on..

  • I tried splitting wood with a tire but it just bounces off and rolls away :-)

  • nice

  • This is a great and ingenious idea - thank you for sharing it. :-)

  • Great idea, thanks for sharing!

  • Nice :D

  • This nice fellow should see a cardiologist. IMHO And Perhaps watch the movie Forks Over Knives. God bless and take care of yourself. I like your idea too. :)

Humor me,, buy a copy of Forks Over Knives. It is a life style that has changed my life. I believe you could benefit from it,, greatly.

  • Can somebody please tell me what the noise is at the beginning? It would really help me ;O (more than you can imagine )

  • You don't have to split the wood into tiny pieces. Most of the logs you split would be fine in just 2 or 3 pieces, not 6 (depends on the size of your stove). Save yourself some effort.

  • 4 some reason this video made me rly mad prob cuz its stupid and the jokes suck ass

  • wow thats amazing, grate video, never thought of a old tire, how did u make the axe, or did u buy it.?

  • This may sound like an odd question to ask on this video but how close is your closest neighbor?

  • Sir, I like the idea. But you lost me at "sharpen the Axe" its a Maul. Cheers

  • @Workmule4ever2day what is the da dadefinitionnn of a maul

  • brilliant, but so simple, I always found picking up the wood the hardest on my back!

  • To keep water from standing in your tire, drill eight or ten 1/2" holes in the bottom.

    Thx for the idea!

  • Clever ...thanks for acknowledging the Finn ...those dudes are incredibly inventive especially with wood

    thanks for sharing

  • Power splitter = sacrilege. :) I like the tire idea. For those who live where it snows ... not much fun digging for the wood you just split out of a snow bank.

  • Thanks great769. Is that a Goodyear or Firestone tire? Ha! Great idea & I'm going to try it out next time. Get tried of chasing wood around the house.

  • Home Depot rents wood splitters for like $60 a day..... just saying....

  • @shovelniron wood splitters arnt self efficient............ just saying...........

  • Like it. Thank you for sharing.

  • Great Idea! Thanks for Sharing!
