Thank you for the biographical information. I had previously known nothing of Clarke's personal life. It is horrible that someone with something great in their life threw it away over something unimportant. His grave error serves to remind me of higher things so easily blocked by the emotional. Though I would not consider suicide; depression makes us as worthless as the dead.
In most Lutheran churches, the Wagner piece is not permitted. I customarily play this as the general processional; Händel's "Tochter des Sion, freue dich," as the bridal processional, Haydn's "St. Anthony Chorale" as the recessional, and the first movement of a Haydn sonata as the postlude.

"A violent and hopeless passion for a very beautiful lady of a rank superior to his own" caused him to commit suicide. Before shooting himself, he considered hanging and drowning as options, so to decide his fate, he tossed a coin—however the coin landed in the mud on its side. Instead of consoling himself, he chose the third method of death, and performed the deed in the cathedral churchyard."
Beautiful. Takes me back to Easter in St. Paul's five years ago. Though this is titled "Trumpet Voluntary," it is entirely played on organ - using the "trumpet" stops. The pipe organ is a magnificent instrument!!
Recorded in St Paul's Cathedral. The Organist is using mostly the Baroque North Choir Division with its translucent principal chorus. Overall you're not going to get anything better than this!
Thanks, I have been erroneously attributing this marvelous music to Purcell. I play it for nearly every wedding, with a few exceptions of those who insist on that dreadful Wagner Bridal March.
@accousticdecay It's incredibly naff to have Wagners Bridal March at a Wedding, it was okay 100 years ago when it was still fresh but now... Oh good grief - CRINGE.
ongelooflijk prachtig!!!!!Deze muziek werd gespeeld toen princess Diana trouwde!! Doet de tranen in mijn ogen komen.

Simply Breathtaking. The trumpet is so clear and precise. The organ is, simply put, quite marvelous as well.

who is playing this??(the trumpet part). If I listen to it I think it's Maurice Andre. Is that correct?
McFlooow 1 year ago 3
Yes, you are correct.
BritainShallPrevail 1 year ago
@McFlooow How do you identify just by listening? I think that's really interesting. Is it through the style/tempo etc?

@haaatz yea i also think that he has a unique tone, his own style that could be distinguingshed.

I think it IS by Purcell and the Clarke version is called "Price of Denmark's March" but I'm not quite sure.
