I quit AO after this video came out and said ill go back once the new engine is out coz i could nt deal with the graphics in the game anymore. I like games with good graphics thats y I have an uber PC to play games with UBER GRAPHICS!!! its been 3years now and im still waiting. *sigh*

Too little, too late. Game is hugely outdated by now, and I'm not only talking about the graphics. They do things oldschool over there. Sure it's fine if you like those old games, but newer mmo's shown there is a better way. The grind is insane. Yeah, you can level fast with kiteteams and such but you either need a cc to pay for kites or be a longtime player with alot of credits.

@kool4life7 I'd Yes, it can take that long. A lot of games never get an upgrade, btw. Also, just look at how long it took for Age of Conan to reach an optimal and "stable" version of the same graphics engine, that will be used for AO. So, advanced graphics, take long to do it right. Orelse something like the launch of Age of Conan comes along. Bugs, unstable and that kind of stuff. But I am on your side, though. I do want an upgrade really badly. It's the only reason I don't play AO yet.

This engine has been promised for years now ..and in all honesty i dont see it coming at all ..the froob accounts have taken over lots of Veteran players have left and wont return so it never will happen ..if it does ill be amazed
It's a good idea to make sure there aren't any glitches like there were in the original release of AO... But you know, at a certain point, I'd rather live with a few glitches and have the new engine.
@NDoomsday82 I said that when I was playing some older MMOs back then and when AoC launched. That one hit me hard ;D I would like to see AO get pumped up again as well, though. Hopefully this won't take years to launch. Early-Mid 2011 should be targeted, everything after that is too late.

If it comes out any time in 2011 they will be in big trouble because the MMO market will be overly saturated. You have players getting drawn into LOTRO now with FTP, Cataclysm coming out in December for WOW, SWTOR in the spring, and GW2 in the fall. That would be a painful environment for AO to compete in.
@sdm5h Well, they have to do it sometime, and definitely before TSW is released, since my bet is that tons of people will go from AO to TSW if AO stays how it is right now. SWTOR is doomed, everyone knows that, and I believe most people agree that people who play WOW usually don't play AO, which has a much more mature playerbase.
@yngvil I'll agree with you on WOW and TSW, although TSW doesn't have that kind of pull for me personally (just not the kind of game world I'd be interested in).
However I'm rather confused by your belief that everyone thinks TOR is a failure. I haven't head a single person come out of trying it at PAX and E3 who disliked the game. EA Louise's rant is completely discredited, and although we can complain about the rate of game info being released, its not time to push the panic button.

@siegeay You do realize they're basically devoting their entire team to the rebalancing of classes, right? It's happening far faster than WoW's rebalancing did, too.... you know, back when Warriors were good tanks but that was the only think they could actually do.
They didn't release it because they didn't have the funding to finish it. If you people are "real old fans" then support it. Make donations, play the game, etc. Only way this will ever get out.
Love fucking AO as is. With the new graphics it will be insane though. Just hope my comp can handle it, otherwise I will be very sad if UN able to play anymore.
Whatever the new engine is, the update is much needed because the old engine has more and more difficulties running on newer graphic cards (it's buggy especially on ATI cards). I guess the newer drivers are to blame. This wouldn't have happened if they had chosen OpenGL instead of DirectX but hey, it's their game...

I played AO for about a good 2-3 years, and it was fun, but to break the bad news, that vid is truely fake. Almost all that you saw was scrped off from a diffrent game (name slipped my mind). But that graphics update is a total fake, and besides the graphics don't matter, just the entertainment. I have to agree my years playing there needs to be a some changes to the A.I and so on so on, but really the graphics arn't needed. AO is a classic in its own way, and it should stay that way. :)
@Zackarco Fake? While it's true that they scrapped this render engine to try another, this video is not compile from different games. The official word from funcom about this render engine is that it was costing too much to produce and didn't feature everything they needed. Last I read about it they were going to try and use the newer version of the Dreamworld engine from Age of Conan.
@Darkhartx1 No this is the graphics update after they scraped the old one. They were trying to use the Age of Conan engine but after a lot of difficulty and the graphics style wasent suiting the game this is what they came up with. They have screen shots of some of the things from this video on the AO front page. The release is only a few months away and closed beta is starting soon. This year we will see the update.
Btw, those wondering, the engine they used in this video was scrapped, they decided to switch over to the updated Dreamworld engine which Age of Conan uses

The new engine needs to be implemented fast. It is absolutely amazing. AO was still great before this was ever even mentioned. But with this new engine. AO will flourish into a much more massive MMORPG, most definitely.

RK2 is not empty. Its a lot less populated than it was a couple years ago, but not empty. I signed on for the first time after like 2 years and Old Athens is like a ghost town. I see a few people every now and then, but its very empty. I havent explored much else, I just signed on for a few minutes to check things out. I hope they dont close RK2. I have some nice stuff on there and I dont want to have to start over if I get back into it.

I have changed to WoW a while ago, but sometimes I miss Anarchy Online because that is a game where it's not only about killing mobs and complete the same boring quests/missions, but I think that if I go back to Anarchy it will get boring fast again ... when (if) that engine come I will deffinately star playing Anarchy Online again. Probem is, that I have been waiting for a looong time now, and i wonder if it will come al all ... and before 2020 :P
yup, especially since the whole idea of "froobs" is ingrained in the game culture to the point where they have items and npcs that freely address it (reets and leets, for example).

SUMMER 2011??? JESUS! Okay ... they have light integrated now and they have weeded out most if not all the old code and are setting "art specifications" so I swear it seems like it's pretty close. My guess is late Summer 2010 ... but that's just my guess.
I played this game a lot back then for a few years, it never was very user friendly though. It still isn't.
I started out as an agent and couldn't kill anything at the Newland City Backyard even when I managed to sneak and get off an aimed shot because by DEFAULT the agg / def bar was set to medium... clever FC...
Even today, without 3rd party add-ons like maps, implant helpers and clicksaver it would be unplayable.

When they made this, they were using the Ogre engine. However, they scrapped that and started over with their own DreamWorld engine, also known from Age of Conan.

Aliens, beast, drill island whatever, you name it. Come to AO, put effort in it, level to 220=profit and real pvp/pvm fun. ;) No game for the soloplayer, team focused at most. ;)
AO can NEVER be classified as a grindgame or anything else as its UNIQUE. Skill system are so complex and improvments take KNOWLEGDE and insight in game items wich often are hard to get and require knowlegde from years of playing. My point is, a game like this you play because community are more tight and you get ditched quick if your a ftard as well. Good luck on raidbots if you do that. My friend run current biggest bot allowing both clans and omni to have fun.

the current graphics and lag are a result of the current engine using DX7. As a result, large hardware upgrades like a new vid card or more ram wouldn't affect it much as DX7 doesn't utilitize them. With the new engine using DX9 and above, you should notice a much smoother performance because it's actually using the hardware of your PC.
Is Anarchy Online still free? I used to play (level 120 fixer, clan, opifex), and Im thinking about getting it again. Many blessings for the answer. xoxoxo

you need a key? where did you download it from? if you downloaded it from the official website and u clicked the smallclient 'froobs' u just get guided trough.
This game is almost unplayable in most urbanized cities eg. in Borelais or Rome... especially if you have ATI card. Always it tends to drop you from the game if you have too high ping. That makes the game irritating frustrating. They (Funcom) should make AO II with better world, storyline, mechanics and optimized in every aspect instead of just graphical upgrade for crappy AO... still waiting though...

@Darkhartx1 No this is the graphics update after they scraped the old one. They were trying to use the Age of Conan engine but after a lot of difficulty and the graphics style wasent suiting the game this is what they came up with. They have screen shots of some of the things from this video on the AO front page. The release is only a few months away and closed beta is starting soon. This year we will see the update.

Btw, those wondering, the engine they used in this video was scrapped, they decided to switch over to the updated Dreamworld engine which Age of Conan uses

The new engine needs to be implemented fast. It is absolutely amazing. AO was still great before this was ever even mentioned. But with this new engine. AO will flourish into a much more massive MMORPG, most definitely.

RK2 is not empty. Its a lot less populated than it was a couple years ago, but not empty. I signed on for the first time after like 2 years and Old Athens is like a ghost town. I see a few people every now and then, but its very empty. I havent explored much else, I just signed on for a few minutes to check things out. I hope they dont close RK2. I have some nice stuff on there and I dont want to have to start over if I get back into it.

I have changed to WoW a while ago, but sometimes I miss Anarchy Online because that is a game where it's not only about killing mobs and complete the same boring quests/missions, but I think that if I go back to Anarchy it will get boring fast again ... when (if) that engine come I will deffinately star playing Anarchy Online again. Probem is, that I have been waiting for a looong time now, and i wonder if it will come al all ... and before 2020 :P

yup, especially since the whole idea of "froobs" is ingrained in the game culture to the point where they have items and npcs that freely address it (reets and leets, for example).
I doubt they'd want to just go ahead and erase that

SUMMER 2011??? JESUS! Okay ... they have light integrated now and they have weeded out most if not all the old code and are setting "art specifications" so I swear it seems like it's pretty close. My guess is late Summer 2010 ... but that's just my guess.

I played this game a lot back then for a few years, it never was very user friendly though. It still isn't.
I started out as an agent and couldn't kill anything at the Newland City Backyard even when I managed to sneak and get off an aimed shot because by DEFAULT the agg / def bar was set to medium... clever FC...
Even today, without 3rd party add-ons like maps, implant helpers and clicksaver it would be unplayable.
AO survived due to a great community.

Tab-Q gets boring and the AOE teams are not noob friendly, neither is the twinking system that the whole game is based too. Show me a veteran player that doesn't twink his alt in order to lvl it... there isn't. And these players won't team up with noobs cause noobs are gimps

When they made this, they were using the Ogre engine. However, they scrapped that and started over with their own DreamWorld engine, also known from Age of Conan.

AO can NEVER be classified as a grindgame or anything else as its UNIQUE. Skill system are so complex and improvments take KNOWLEGDE and insight in game items wich often are hard to get and require knowlegde from years of playing. My point is, a game like this you play because community are more tight and you get ditched quick if your a ftard as well. Good luck on raidbots if you do that. My friend run current biggest bot allowing both clans and omni to have fun.

the current graphics and lag are a result of the current engine using DX7. As a result, large hardware upgrades like a new vid card or more ram wouldn't affect it much as DX7 doesn't utilitize them. With the new engine using DX9 and above, you should notice a much smoother performance because it's actually using the hardware of your PC.

FunCom Re-started working on an even better engine than this one in dx9 and ready to upgrade to dx10 (the same as AoC).
The graphics would rock then, now they just suck ;p but the game is awesome and xtremelly complex.

This game is almost unplayable in most urbanized cities eg. in Borelais or Rome... especially if you have ATI card. Always it tends to drop you from the game if you have too high ping. That makes the game irritating frustrating. They (Funcom) should make AO II with better world, storyline, mechanics and optimized in every aspect instead of just graphical upgrade for crappy AO... still waiting though...
