  • simple not that good

  • what we can say though,is that he's great and i believe most will agree, though there's always some that won't

  • Of course there's such thing as best. If there wasn't there couldn't be such a thing as "better than". If you practice to get better than you were before, doesn't it follow that some drummers are better than others? The issue is defining what the person is best at with precision. It is difficult to pick a best drummer, but there are certainly a few who might qualify as equals among best: B. Rich, N. Peart, T. Lang, to name a few. People who boosted the bar, in other words.

  • I know, it's so stupid to say so-and-so is the best, when clearly Manu Katche is lols

  • SAME OLD FUCKIN SOLO!!! RETIRE WHY DON'T YOU!!!

  • buray mo simon phillips

  • Should've dragged away the dago cat.

  • thats not even remotely funny..

  • abused on video effects, this video doesnt represent him as best =) imo

  • Ignorance is bliss.

  • wow..didnt know anyone actually thinks that..oh well..

  • I love his work with Nik Kershaw. Just beautiful. Forget solos; this guy is the king of interesting fills.

  • Gee, ya know I would, but you left no link and have no favorited videos. So in addition to being negative and, by most people's* account, incorrect, your comment was useless. I learned nothing.

*The Who, Toto, Jeff Beck, Stanley Clarke, to name some.

  • Spot on. His fills are incredible and constantly surprising.

Extraordinary the emotion he applies to heavy rock fills.

    Defo one of the greats.

  • Antoonnootna must be a guitarist with a witless remark like that. I jest of course, maybe a bassplayer.

  • There is no best, when will people stop comparing, we get all our influences from all types of drummers and music. My major influence was this guy, Bozzio and Phil Collins when I started, are they the best..no. it isnt a race or competition!!! There are a few on here that get it, they are probably "musicians" rather than just "drummers".

  • i agree wit u excpet the part that their mostly drummers who think there is a best drummer. im only 13 and i agree wit u and also only a drummer too :( dont generalize never a good thing to do thats what started conflicts from da beginning of time

  • well ,vince colaiuta is the king of polyrythmic drumming from his work with zappa.Pretty much ahead of his time.I've never heard any other drummer play like him.The rest are too straight up.I like aberrated styles.

  • @tindrum everyone in the world should know or realize that tony royster is the best drummer in the world had down

  • @nigelic no one is the best, Gavin harrison isnt the best, Buddy Rch isnt the best and Tony Royster whilst very good, frightening actually for his age...isnt the best. it is your personal preference and thats fine.

  • @tindrum I agree with everything ya said, except Buddy Rich. I'm not into big band playin, but, I believe he really is the best. No other drummer has done more for the art of drumming that he did, and no other drummer has influenced as many after him, as he did really. Neil Peart, Bonzo, Simmon, all of the greats pretty much, were influenced by Buddy Rich in one way or another. Buddy showed the world what could be done with a pair of drumsticks, and we're still in awe today..

  • @tindrum BRAVO BRAVO, that what Music and Musicians is about! Again,BRAVO 4 these wise word's! S.K.Wittlin aka "CHE" The Drummer

  • @tindrum Well said

  • love the lights goin on there

  • Best Drummer Ever is the late and great Jeff Porcaro, may his soul rest in peace.

  • What many people tend to forget in these: "who's the best drummer of all time bollocks" is that Phillips and Peart are composers. They have musical intellect and knowledge that would completely piss over most modern percussionists today.

  • That is true, but when most people are deciphering who the best drummer is they are speaking in terms of straight up playing I think.

To me it matters not who the best is. It only matter who tickles my funny bone in terms of what I personally prefer, which I'd have to imagine is the case with most everyone apart from the musicality you've eluded to.

    Great point you made however.

    Peace...

  • Gavin harrison is god.

  • They both are great drummers. Check out Dave Weckel & Dennis Chambers for a much higher level of drumming techniques. As far as Peart being the best of all time.Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

  • lol. some people thinks this guys the best. i think he is good. but in my opinion, NEIL PEART is the best. and yeah i know some people would agree or disagree with that... but thats what i think... ye.

  • honestly, nothing special.

  • I doubt they'd agree.

  • Very Cool!

    Kevin Tutaj

    Las Vegas Drummer

  • lol neil is my favourite drummer but I saw simon live and I can say you, these two drummers are very different, you can`t say that one is better than the other.

  • I disagree... check his other vids particually the jazz ones peart is great i totally agree, but this guy can drum in any style or time signature. Versatility is what makes a great drummer...

  • niether are good compared to carl palmer

  • I don't think Simon owns an aquatic donkey. And he doesn't look much like a cigarette either.

  • Well, lot of people dont know how well rounded Simon is, its easy to have an un-educated opinion now isnt it! The fact is that Simon is on one of the best ever. That fact can not be argued. Is he THE best? Doubt that any of us would have the right to judge that competition. But he is in that class of musician that very few people acheive. IMHO when it comes to that level of musicianship it becomes more about what the listener likes not about who is better!

  • everyone that sayes they r the best r bigheaded motherfuckers.

  • I AM THE BEST!

  • hey guys.... Simon Phillips clinic will be held in Wisma MCA on 23rd July 2008. u guys can purchase d ticket at Bentley music, mutiara damansara or bukit bintang. come to enjoy it... yoohooo....

  • John Bonham, John Bonham, blah, blah blah. Yes, John was good, but he is not in the same caliber as Simon. Simon, Steve Smith, Michael Portnoy, Todd Sucherman and the like could play rings around Bonham. Don't get me wrong, Bonham could play rings around me and I'm pretty damned good on the kit. Fact is, there is a certain class of drummers out there. The Michael Jordans of the drum world per se. Not only have they practiced and practiced, they have a natural ability. Simon is better.

  • I'd prefer to listen to bonham though out of all those drummers you listed.. Maybe technically they are better drummers, but bonham had such a great feel and always played to the song, which in my opinion makes him a better drummer

  • simon is great they'll never be another john bonham!!! EVER!!!!

  • 1st off there is no best and if there was,it would be dave weckl.

  • yay!

Indeed there is nothing beyond dave weckl as of now.

  • In answer to your qustion - Yes, Simon Phillips is the best.

  • no simon phillips is not the best

  • I think you'll find he is

  • Jeff was fuckin better!

simon is great too, but porcaro was realy the heart of Toto..

  • sobo

  • He's been the best for thirty years, first saw him live in 82 and followed his amazing career ever since. Met him backstage a few times, with Deep End, Toyah, Jack Bruce and at the London Zildjian clinics. Truly outstanding. Like someone said when you see him live it punches you in the chest and when he goes into double bass drums ala Space Boogie or Crises it's breathtaking. Never seen anyone better live.

  • imo carter beaford from dmb is outstanding live performer, search the tune "seek up", check out a live version, so good

  • simon phillips TRIBUNE ??

  • I'd have to say simon is one of the top 3 in the world, not my favourite but hes flawless

  • Hes good but .. nah he aint the best ..

  • yes... you're right!

Jeff was the best... the only one!

    Jeff we miss you.

  • In my opinion, Thomas Lang is the best drummer alive. The only 2 things he doesnt really have is the "band play" and some may say that wut he plays is 2 technical and doesnt have enough feel. In that case, i would say Mike portnoy fills the band spot and I can't say which drummer for "feel". In all other cases, Thomas Lang owns all. His Creative coordination DVD is a gold mine for drummers.

  • i'm in love with his kit

  • love the opening! looks like a real newspaper!

  • Simply awesome and amazing by all drumming standards. I've witnessed it myself, THE BEST!

  • i like how he uses two bases instead of a double base =]

  • bass dude....bass.

  • i said two bases...as in two base drums

  • BASS drums...

    you are annoying.

  • LMAO nice man.

  • because he can afford it, and it is a double bass just not a double bass pedal

  • This was sick!

  • SImon is one of the greatest of all time and thats why people say hes great.

  • don't like him, he isn't that good how people say he would be!

  • ratzefuj: Are you any better? Your post is irrelevant and antagonistc..

Go see him live and feel his drum set in your chest! Millions of people KNOW he is a great drummer!

  • he's better than most drummers today, and when i say that, i mean like top 5 in the world

  • He musn't be that good, he's sessioned on tours with The Who, Jeff Beck, Ac/Dc, Tears for Fears, Mick Jagger and Judas Priest ...

  • What does that say about his qualities? I don´t understand!! Jeff Beck is one of the best guitarplayers in the world, Mick Jagger stands for his own, the same with the Who. So what you´re talkin´ about?

  • DUDE, hes one of the few drummers that can play ANYTHING left handed AND right handed. his ambidexterity is at an incredible level! not to mention the number of different styles of music he plays. jesus christ never say what you just said again

  • you have no idea how much you deserve to be castrated for that comment.

  • don't forget moonie.....

  • Ah, another expert, who talks about facts, he doesn´t understand. Try to beat him, poor guy!

  • i hate to say it, but the sound quality of his set sounds like shit in all these videos, i understand they are old but comon.

  • SummerCamp1: This is a very bad video from a cellphone dude! AND Those are TAMA Starclassic MAPLE dude! you have no clue of what you are talking about! look for other videos...

  • i went to see Toto live in bristol in march and they open with falling in between, and the sound of his kit is one of if not, the best sound ive heard. the bass from his drums you can feel in your chest and it feels like someone shovin you sraight in your chest!! its awesome!! i advise people to feel it before criticizing

  • I have a couple of his CD's and the drum sound is excellent - and a good fit for his style of playing. Besides, it only takes a moment of thought to realize that this was shot with a low quality camcorder or cell phone, neither of which are known for great audio...

  • Lol he's snare sounds like a shotgun, nice!

    simon rules

  • Simon & Jeff are the best drummer ever

  • he and jeff are the best drummers I know

    WE MISS JEFF!!!

But Simon is a good replacer!

  • he's simply one of the best drummers ever , amazinggg!!!

  • check out will calhoun drum solo on youtube

  • Need I say more...just check out the title dude!
