As long as the the beam on your laser is not too wide, you should have very good burning ability.

Note of Caution: Be VERY VERY careful with using mirrors. I read an article on a kid trying to make a laser light show for his own entertainment. The laser accidentally went across his eye and burnt pretty much all the cells in his retina leaving him blind in the one eye. Of course it can burn a match at 150 cm, it's a LASER, not a flashlight. The light stays focused on a spot.

Another cool thing you can do with these, is since the wavelength is so narrow, you can point it at the ceiling in a dark room so it lights up the whole room, and you won't be able to see color, just a green greyscale of it. (except certain reds and oranges for some reason)

What can you do with a $400 laser? I've seen the vids. It's a waste of a lot of money. I mean if you got a good paying job ok but what about everyone els. And really, what can you do with that laser? Show it off? Pop balloons? Melt things? You can't go to a rave with one of these. There to high power. A good $100 laser is good. I've seen them at raves. Those are less expencive and you can play with them with out burning something or someone. Or worse, blinding them.

The use for lasers is unlimited and whether it is a waste of money or not all depends on the benefit you receive from it.

As for cheap lasers in raves, I'd stay away from those. Any laser with more than 5-10mW in power can cause serious eye injuries.
