Very nice. Are you still working on this stuff? Would your technique work with lightmapping? Would it be possible to get a somewhat correct tonemapping with a 8 bit lightmap?
@Deadity The technique do work with lightmapping. In Unity non mobile platforms, lightmap data are 16bits compressed into 8 bit, so they are in fact HDR lightmap data.

Wether it goes free or comercial I'll support this project. HDR lighting is a must for a realtime engine and have not heard any plans to implement this stuff officially so, you're my support.
