  • give him pain....give him pain!

  • actually, there is no such thing as "the perfect" martial arts since each martial art differs in each country that has a different culture and surroundings. Eskrima was introduced by the indian settlers that came in the philippines to settle down. Along with indian culture followed other cultures as well such as malay, and chinese long before the Spaniards colonized it in the later 16th century. Eskrima served both for self defense and a hack and slash form of clearing flora to make a path.

  • @bigjoe777 a martial art's effectiveness has nothing to do with culture but more with purpose. For example the difference between brazillian jiu jitsu and boxing - one is more ground concentrated, the other is two hand unarmed competition. Most chinese arts focus on fluidity and endurance, japanese arts focus more on precision and speed, african arts are based on speed and agility, and most european arts were heavily concentrated on adjusting to the weight of armor. Depends on the purpose.

  • @serenadesilhout culture and surroundings do play a role in the creation of martial arts. In terms of culture, the inca's and the mayas have their own form of martial art for sparring. The indians (not the native americans) had several other forms of martial arts used for combat and sparring. In terms of surroundings, the monks that brought buddhism into china helped promote and create the different martial arts to help the peasants fight against bandits and assailants in the areas.

  • @bigjoe777 I understand what you're saying, but what I was saying was purpose of the art is more influential in the creation of an art. You stated that the inca's and mayas have a martial art for sparring - that was the purpose. East Indians create everything as an extension of hinduism, their art have lots of circular movements. The monks didn't actually create kung fu, but adopted and supported it because they themselves were being robbed by bandits and assailants before - a purpose

  • @serenadesilhout "actually create kung fu" i didn't say they created kung fu, i said "helped promote and create the different martial arts" kung fu is merely the adaptation of the indian self defense techniques brought from india by the monks to teach the peasants to defend themselves during those troublesome times back then. And besides, the chinese devised their own self defense techniques out of the indian techniques to better fit their fighting style.

  • @bigjoe777 ok sorry bout the misreading - I don't want to get too technical but in a way we're right. Environments can influence an art, and intended purpose fuels strategy like iaido being a swordsmanship only martial art and kung fu being primarily about combat endurance and fluidity

  • @bigjoe777 why are you guys talking about kung fu this vid is about eskrima

  • @l4ddude100 kindly try and read the past messages and you'd soon find out how we got into Kung fu in the first place...

P.S. > we're very much aware this isn't kung fu...

  • the first double leg takedown defense, if its so effective, why isnt it used in wrestling, submission grappling or MMA? Just curious to know.

  • @toolfan92 because it's not suited for sport?

  • @hMMmmpify i just realised it isnt really a correct double leg td, he's going for the body instead of the knees where almost all successful doubles are done. body takedowns = very much easier to defend and open to all sorts of attack due to it. maybe thats why. this escrima move its nice though, learned it for self defense haha.

  • @toolfan92 they're illegal moves in both wrestling and MMA. If you go to the UFC website, it has a list of illegal moves - and this would fall under small joint manipulation. Plus most fighters don't have backgrounds outside of brazillian jiu jitsu, boxing, and muy thai (few exceptions)

  • @serenadesilhout haha, i would think so. a move like that could kill someone, gonna practice this in bjj class xD

  • @toolfan92 well google ufc rules and check out #15 fouls - all the illegal moves are there

  • @toolfan92 not to kill anyone though, but learning new stuff and practising it is always fun.

  • @toolfan92 it really sucks because almost everything that I learn in martial arts are fouls in UFC which is why you don't see many martial arts there. It's like being asked to box with one hand: Its possible, but who would want to accept those chances.

  • @serenadesilhout Its for safety reasons. these fighters are already highly skilled with a limited set of rules and techniques, imagine if they learned more.

Similarly a highly skilled self-defense style martial artist should still be able to hold his own in the ring/cage. If they cant, it means that the art (morelikely the practitioner) cant be used until things get dirty, which to me is a flaw in itself.

  • @toolfan92 what happens when you have to fight outside the cage? there are no rules in fighting - only in sports. Granted, MMA fighters are among the best on the ground game, but face problems with other martial arts' striking and diversity. Even the most basic of some kung fu moves aren't allowed, even though they are highly effective. If you get into a real fight, you going to fight how you train and the rules put limitations on what you will do. However, it's better than no training.

  • @serenadesilhout well, I've always kept my mind open that i can be dirty in a street fight, haha

  • Don't get the animal involved in the humans problems.

Wrestle with some humans insted, it will give better training, as it also the humans you will fight, not the buffalos

  • As a Filipino, it pisses me off how badly they pronounce the words

  • Mabuhay Carabaw XD

  • "pang-gilowg" haha, love the accent, "pangilog" means to take away/ disarm

  • Filipino martial arts don't dick around, especially with weapons, as they always give you the option for a real kill

  • que chulo! thank for sharing!

  • Give the Pain!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Make him pain, give him pain." Now that is a hardcore teacher.

  • @An0niempje Pain has always been the essential form for discipline and practice. To not endure such would dull your fighting senses. You need it to learn. By experiencing pain, your body registers and learns more of preventing the cause of pain thereby improving your battle stance. Pain improves and molds the trainee into a fighter. Just like how much parents use corporal punishment to discipline their kids. Kids out west are way too lax and abusive towards their parents because they lack it.

  • @bigjoe777 I don't argue about that, it's only that most teachers try to disguise that part of their training as something else, as in the west, indeed people are lazy and much focused on avoiding pain.

I'd like to ask you not to judge western people if you don't know them, we're not all the same.

  • @An0niempje I am part of that west. So I know what I've basically lived along with.

  • @bigjoe777 So you know the entire western world? You must be a great traveler then.

  • Thumbs up if when he said "modern day warrior", Tom Sawyer started playing in your head

  • ahhh...correction philippines was ruled by spain for 333years only not 450years..^^

  • Those soldiers are amateurs. Everybody knows you have to say, "Just hangin out..." before you strike.

  • I Practice Eskrima , Kendo and Iaido and they all have the same weapons Swords Knife and Katana if Combine them it will be useful for fighting.. ;-)

    Greetings from Cainta

  • @KirovAirship8000 Yeah, FMAs dont use katanas.

  • @Churchx77 yes they do

  • 'So if he can defense' ahaha love filipinos

  • can the move at 0:44 be used when the person does a wide street punch? or does it HAVE to be when he lunges at ur lower body?

  • 0:54 y the fuck stupid Americans always put translation on foreign ppl ?they even have fine accent

  • Killing machines of the marines..

  • it's not pang-gilog but pang-ilog, it means to steal.

  • these people sholdve been the ones who responded to the recent hostage taking with mendoza. not those crappy police force who werent even swat they look like TMG hahaha

  • @jopa342 those people are assign too mindanoa fight against the extremist..thats why manila police are crappy and the whole government...

  • @jopa342 lol, while riding huge armored water buffalo, brandishing Escrima Sticks made out of lightsaber energy.

  • check out the Hamidian massacres of Armenia (fairly recent) or JEWS UNDER MUSLIM RULE THE CASE OF PERSIA (neat little book in pdf form on the net just search it) "The Story of Civilization: Our Oriental Heritage" (page 459)

from wikipedia it says: Prof. K.S. Lal, suggests a calculation in his book Growth of Muslim Population in Medieval India which estimates that between the years 1000 AD and 1500 AD the population of Hindus decreased by 80 million.

and that is a few examples...I could go on

  • @chandni89xOx i know I've used Wikipedia as a source but that was the easiest and fastest way...with the time given...I will look around some more later. The point it that it wasn't all roses. This actually happened! Thousands of people died or converted because of the choice that was presented to them. This was over a large area and there are records of this (bones, graves and documents)...and these were the mainstream folks there were no radical elements back then. This was the rule of law.

  • @unionnet27 here in the philippines the muslims want to claim the whole mindanao just because islam came first in the philippines if thats the premise then the whole middle east belongs to the christians because it came first before islam, saying christians are landgrabbers hahaha what a joke

  • @UMAKEMESMILESWACKIN I agree with you! I'm not saying that one region is solely Muslim or Christian...because they're first...but what I am saying basically is that everyone has blood on their hands and people should acknowledge what happened within the context of history...but I agree with you!

  • @chandni89xOx not sure which history book your reading ever heard of dhimmitude? sure you have and your right followers of the faiths are found but are persecuted...WHICH IS A FACT! but there have been massacres...vast amounts of Christians, Hindus and many others that were massacred

  • The knife towards the end of this clip is not a Bolo. It's a Ginunting. A Bolo is shorter and heavier. But, the Ginunting is awesome! It's also, blatantly shown in this clip, a single edge blade. Not double edged, like they say here.

  • mmm, Nice Miss information of history, How bout the truth..phillipines was before all muslim..capital was called munallah, spanish inquisition killed and forced catholisims on them as they did many other countrys..only people that defended against the spanish invaders was a small band of muslims in the south that still exist and are still defending..and no abu sayyef is not Al queda as BBC even admits there never was an alqueda..its all fear selling white lies.

  • @chandni89xOx

actually the Philippines is not all muslim before Spain arrived, the Philippines contained different tibes and clans, some tribes were animistic and others were muslims; there were already muslim kingdoms ruled by Rajahs and Sultans, Datu (chief) before Spain arrived, we were already trading with our Asian neighbors in S.E. Asia, China, India and Arabs; these Arab merchants brought Islam to the country. and yes the west has a habit of not owing up to it's attrocities in the past.

  • @banyohazard69. Recent archaological evidence has discovered that before islam, the religion was Buddhism which came from Srivijayan empire in indonesia..which originally came from India..

  • @pixusbubblejet I don't know about buddhism being a religion back then here in the Philippines, 'coz most of tribes here seem to be animistic in nature before Islam arrived to the Philippines and I have yet to read this recent research; but I do know that Buddhism was also one of the religion during Srivijayan empire, wether the Philippines or parts of the Philippines was actually part of the Srivijayan empire, is still highly debated in historical and scientific circles.

  • @chandni89xOx you want to talk history how did all of the traditionally Christian places outside of Arabia become Muslim?

  • @unionnet27 Within half a century of the Prophet's death, Islam had spread to three continents. Islam is not, as some imagine in the West, a religion of the sword nor did it spread primarily by means of war. It was only within Arabia, where a crude form of idolatry was rampant, that Islam was propagated by warring against those tribes which did not accept the message of God--whereas Christians and Jews were not forced to convert. they are known as al kitab people of the book & hv special rights.

  • @unionnet27 It was faith in One God and emphasis upon His Mercy that brought vast numbers of people into the fold of Islam. The new religion did not coerce people to convert. Many continued to remain Jews and Christians and to this day important communities of the followers of these faiths are found in Muslim lands. the spread of Islam outside of Arabia, during later centuries Turks embraced Islam peacefully, Indian subcontinent , Malay-Indo-Phillipines-Africa an many more.

  • it reminds me aÏkijutsu

  • Pangilog? Lolz!

  • cut yor head first im nxt to you GLENNMART07

  • subtitles are for deaf people stupid!

  • @erererpats actually if they were for deaf people then the whole episode whould have been subtitled so... its most probably because of the accent

  • @erererpats, deaf people are not stupid..

  • waw his tha master who teached also the guys in FIGHT QUEST!!!

  • Yes, that Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje. Grandmaster of Pekiti Tirsia kali system.

  • I like the BALIOG Move. (1:54) can be used in MMA. :)

  • wow .. X reply sorry dude haha

  • @luvudarren1

Yeah, they do it for all the HW series, only american is not subtitled - they even Subtitled an English guy ffs! lol

Think its for ignorant Americans (not saying all Americans are ignorant).

  • they show the techniques Better than Fight quest... :)

  • but fight quest in my opinion is better coz they show the blood and sweat..

  • This seems like a fight quest rip-off, just with the way more stupid kind of american people

  • LOL I thought his English was good, why do they need subtitles? XD

    I'm Filipino, that's why I laugh.

  • I worked for a Police Department and my Escrima Training has saved me more than once. It's effective and practical and when someone twice your size grabs you anything you've learned is effective; Weapons are tools. And it requires the correct training to use.

  • this is a fact the navy seal trains in the art of sayoc kali elite special forces learn pure killing martial arts like kali or escrima because they need to learn hand to hand combat when the going gets tough watch the move the hunted by benicio del toro

  • if it wasnt necessary they wouldnt learn it, its not like they're short of things to do so they just do this for a laugh

  • all martial arts starts with the mind dick head, what is the point of practicing quietly and never getting any better, the human being the creating individual is more important than any establishment style or system.

  • I think the point of this series is to demonstrate the discipline and mastery of these very specialized martial arts, arts that otherwise would go un-noticed by the majority of ignorant westerners ( you can use your self as an example ! ). by showing these martial arts on tv and how devistatingly effective they are, they bring recognition and honer to both the schools who teach them, the masters and the purples.

  • Oh and by the way did you see any of the masters say that we were pissing on their toes?????!!!!! i think that that has come purely from your distorted imagination!!!.

  • Martial Arts is a way of discipline. So, we must respect all martial arts regardless how the call it.

  • Some people do it, I know someone who did, although not as part of training. They do it to try their strength againts a strongly superior opponent, its like with mountain climbers, they do it because its there.

  • a lot of farmers (especially cattle farmers) wrestle at the same club i do and they all have really strong bases from leading and pushing cattle around

  • that move those soliders were teaching them almost reminds me of what naked snake would do to an armed guard.

  • Lol leave the buffalo alone.

  • i really dont get way people talk shit about other martial arts. the great thing about martial arts is that they are as diverse as language.

  • obviously bill duff is a wrestler, he knows how reverse half-nelson is done.

  • Dont mess with the Filipinos you Crap! you didnt even know what the true power of Kali(Arnis or Escrima) and Kendo Sucks.

  • poor buffalo but great fighting style

  • leave the poor buffalo alone lol

  • Agree, see those water buffalos make good milk candy, one of the best I've tasted. Try and buy yemas in mindanao (Make sure its made out of water buffalo [kalabaw in tagalog] milk).

  • eskrima vs Kendo...

    eskrima would pawn kendo

kendo deals with 1 strike 1 kill while eskrima slashes your flesh repeatedly until you die...that is why the JAPANESE were having a hard time figtiing filipinos

  • True, eskrimadors fought the Japs (many of them were slashed to pieces with eskrima) but eventually, the superior weaponry won out. But in modern times, Kali works wonders against terrorists.

  • If your talking about WWII then your all being stupid...Of course when a trained Eskrima fighter jumped out of the bushes and attacked a Japanese soldier(Not a samurai)Of course he would kill him. The Japanese arnt Samurai anymore, they used guns, not Katanas. Some had Katanas like officers, but honestly how many Japanese soldiers were trained in hand to hand combat like a Samurai in WWII...Of course the Eskrima won, the Japanese probly didnt even see what happend, sword flys out of the bushes, dead.

  • I just have to say, thats absolutely correct. I mean, the soldiers did learn some jujitsu (mostly Judo however) and some kendo, but like you said only the officers had swords, which they had minimal training at. A highly trained Kali fighter ambushing a minimal trained Japanese swordsman is bound to lose. However I don't really care of the Japanese officers died since I discount the Japanese from WW2 from being true Japanese.

  • I dont know if the Officers learned Judo/Jujutsu in WWII or not, but I know the Samurai did. Kali is great, its meant to kill people, but so is Kendo, accept now days Kendo is like a sport and Kali is for beating the crap out of people with sticks and other stuff. Ya, the Japanese attacked Guam and we killed them often with Gurrilla tactics with Machetes and sticks. Like I said, trained or not, if you dont see a Machete split your head from behind your dead. Samurai, officer, no chance...

  • The range of the weapon may give a Japanese swordsman an advantage however they are not invincible. Once before the Spanish times, the warriors in the Philippine archipelago were even acknowledged and feared even by the Chinese and the Muslims. There were accounts to prove the fact. Think about it...

  • PCEKEEP---> I THINK YOU KNOW SOME REAL FACTS ABOUT OUR ANCESTOR WARRIORSHIP. yesh i do agree that our ANCESTOR FILIPINO LEADERS AND WARRIORS ARE BEST IN WARRIORSHIP ITS IN OUR BLOODLINES AND WE ARE BEN FEARED BY OTHER RACE AND WE EVEN SENT WARRIORS TO HELP OTHER KINDGDOM TO STOP THEYR REBELLION IN THERE KINGDOM

  • Eskrima before and what it is now is different either. In fact, the old methods even training were brutal and the sticks were not even introduced even in early training. Apprentices once used bolo swords and I don't think its something pretty safe. Its original form was a deadly and very brutal art. The warriors in the Philippine soil were also acknowledged by the Chinese themselves even feared them. I don't think eskrima is something to be underestimated. Eskrima is still an equivalent to kendo

  • nowadays

  • Eskrima is still practical fighting due to the state of war in the Philippines for centuries. Kendo has been watered down from the original form in the 15th century to its sportlike form today simply because swordsmanship ceased to be practical after the proliferation of firearms. Comparing Eskrima to kendo today is like comparing Classical fencing with Olympic fencing

  • Seems like the more sport takes over a martial art the stupider it becomes. There is not a need for a hand to hand fighting style like there was when they were made. Look at Karate, if you did "Karate" back in the day, everyone could tell because your hands were all jacked up and many of your fingers have probably been broken more then once... You FOUGHT people, you didn't play tag with your foot which is what most Karate schools do nowdays...Back in the day... Karate would KILL any MMA fighter

  • Totally. Gatka, wushu, ju do; they've all changed from killing to sports

  • Yeah and what's worse is now we get all these MMA guys that think that no one else in the world can fight except them... Lyoto Machida is my man... He brought real Karate to the MMA ring and is undefeted!!! =) There are some good schools to this day, they are just hard to find...

  • get your facts straight. america bought the phils from spain and the manila bay battle is just for the show. but pinoy martial arts is the shits.

  • Dude that Baliog Pomali is awesome

  • eskrima is soooooooo sik

  • putang ina mo ^^

  • I've seen this in history channel

    MMA Philippines

    Mixed Martial Arts Philippines

    mmaphilippines net

  • That's not a bolo, that's a ginuting

  • Is that the same guy in Fight Quest?

  • Nope.

  • I mean the teacher guy

  • yea the teacher is from fight quest also

  • The Americans did nothing in liberating the Philippines. Read your history!

  • Baliog Pomali is one of the best defenses against brazilian jujutsu I have ever seen.

  • Hmm... I don't think so. I'm from the Philippines and from what I've learned, although the Americans had other motives and their intervention may prove unnecessary, they did defeat the Spanish navy in the battle of Malina bay. The Philippine revolutionary forces had no real navy back then. Also, even if the Spanish would have been driven out eventually, it would have taken a much longer time without foreign intervention. They also introduced democracy and free trade.

  • Agreed, when the Americans came to fight the Spanish in the Philippines most the spanish troops are already beaten and fucked up by the Katipunan.

  • They just replaced one empire with another.

  • kick ass

  • carabao kicks ass

  • Glad no animal cruelty comments

  • of course they r not gona comment if they do that phililinos guys gona beat ur ass with eskrima n feed u to his cat

  • great fight
