@srki22 Quite. Did you hear that cheer when she said he was eliminated? You should have heard the cheer when she announced it the second time around when the difference had gone up from 3 to 14 votes XD
@Albukhshi That about sums it up. The recount was done, and rather than reversing the result, Dick Roche's deficit went from 3 to 14 votes. The crowd LOLed.
@rozeboosje "No, I think it only counts each viewer once"
I wish that was true, but I've noticed that this only shows up when a video has more that 300 views.
Which I later found out, is because youtube stops auto refreshing their view counter at about 300, and starts one which refreshes about every hour or so... really annoying eh?
I'm kind of grateful in an inadmirable way - it's not just U.S. politicians that act like spoiled brats when someone takes away their electoral rattle.
@rozeboosje Dick Roche's posters state "This poster was defaced by those who oppose democracy". He must have defaced his own election posters it seems...the people have spoken, and spoken clearly.
@chicken6000 In fairness, I would have had all the sympathy in the world for him even if he had been battling this out with anybody else, but to cause such ructions for no reason other than to ensure that he and his running mate get kicked out in the order in which they were fielded by Fianna Fáil is simply pathetic.
I see, recount the votes until you magically win? And then you win by just the margin allowed for voter fraud, like the dead people who vote, or prisoners, or even better, by the non-citizens who are bused to the polls.
Oh wait....this is in Ireland?
Sorry. I was describing an American election. My mistake.
@ravenslaves There really is no chance of good old Dick winning any seats in this election, so I really think it is about not wanting to come second to his running mate. HE was supposed to be number 1 on the FF ticket, and Fitzgerald was supposed to be number 2 and even though they'll both be kicked into touch, he'll still want to come out ahead of Fitzy. It's got to THAT level of pathetic.
@dangerouslytalented Basically the Irish system is one of transfers and quota. There are 5 seats in this constituency, and 25 candidates. After all the votes are counted, a quota is set that each candidate needs to pass. If they do, they are elected. If not, the candidate with the lowest number of votes is excluded from the ballot, and their second preference votes are redistributed amongst the remaining candidates. Same idea with surpluses over the quota [more]
@dangerouslytalented Fianna Fáil was the ruling party for the last 15 or so years. They led this country into the whole bubble, and they are responsible for the depth of the economic disaster in this country. They got wiped out in this election, and they are reduced to nearly nothing. In Wicklow, my constituency, there were two candidates, Dick Roche and Pat Fitzgerald. It's clear that neither will get elected, so now they're bickering about who will end up being kicked out first. Seriously.
@dangerouslytalented Sorry, there were 25 candidates, but only two FF ones. Dick Roche was supposed to be the top FF candidate, with PF as his "number two" man. As it transpired though, Dick Roche was eliminated before Pat Fitzgerald, and Dick is a bit pissy over that.
@Prophiscient Unless there is a prize for fáiling, as dangerouslytalented put it, epically, no. They won nothing. they were almost wiped out completely. Almost all their cabinet ministers were kicked out of the Dáil
@johncrwarner well quite. Even if it were between him and another party candidate, there would have been SOME point to this as it might affect the way transfers work out, but two Fianna Fáil candidates within a hair's breadth of one another lingering at the bottom of the pile? Who cares which one manages to cling on to the delusion that they might still be in with a chance for one or two counts longer?
Being second to bottom rather than bottom really really matters to this man. Is he going to pay for the cost of the recount if it makes no difference and having wasted everyone's time.
@johncrwarner Well, it was the bottom of the pile after 13 counts. There were 25 candidates, including a few strong independents but even more whackjobs and no-hopers. These are the folks who get less than half a thousand votes from those who only vote for the lulz. But he was pretty much bottom of the pile after all those were weeded out.
He reminds me a bit of that guy at the end of a party who hasn't noticed that everybody else has gone home and you're sitting there in your pajamas ostentatiously yawning and looking at your watch.

The youtube view counter stops instantly refreshing around 300 views, and starts refreshing every hour instead
