  • Do not hate Gerry for this late stoppage, it's the referees job to say it's enough, in this situation it's so much adrenalin you have to be stopped yourself if you know what I mean.

Norton would have done the same very likely in Gerry's situation.

Gerry was never afraid of bang it out with anyone,. win or lose, do not take his victouries away from him please, he earned them with hard work.

He was not the best but he was an entertaining fighter, no doubt.

  • disgusting fighters who wack there opponents even though they on there knees

  • At least 4 punches too many and with such a huge man dishing it out, Ken Norton was lucky not to be killed.

    This referee is useless.

  • Norton could have died. Its fight like this that give boxing a bad name. No need for this. ref should have stepped in much, much earlier. somehow, I suspect that if it was his son, he'd be in there stopping the fight as soon as it was clear he was in trouble - SMDH.

  • Gerry Cooney was so proud of himself beating up an over the hil Ken Norton and what a horrible job by referee Tony Perez. I'm glad that the great white dope Cooney would get his ass handed to him in future bouts.

  • Back when I could name a boxer.

  • ha ha norton wore out his welcome in boxing here.that was a seriously dangerous k.o.

  • Karma for Norton beating on a totally washed up Jerry Quarry and then bragging about it.

  • fuck! What was the referee watching?

  • first of all, Norton was 38 at the time, furthermore he delivered fights harder than foreman (going to the limit with Ali, Holmes and Young), who annihilated his opponents within 3 rounds, it was normal that Norton was more worn out than foreman who even at 40, had a physical appearance and an incredible power

  • norton was past his prim eyes, but he is only 35. foreman destroyed cooney when he was in his 40s. because foreman would kill cooney always, but norton did not have the style and the chin to beat cooney

  • Ahhh, Tony Perez. . The ref who on the night of January 28th, 1974, conveniently forgot to do anything as Muhammad Ali mugged his way to a decision victory over Joe Frazier, despite clinching over 130 times in 12 rounds. Then defended his actions by claiming there was nothing wrong with clinching as long as you weren't punching while doing it. So Frazier fought 12 rounds, Ali fought 6, and both Perez and two integrity challenged judges gave Ali a free pass all night long.

  • @sportshistorybuff big call.

  • This fight is just awful. Coney beat an old man! Norton should have been forced to retire after the KO loss to Shavers.

  • @zenmachinefilms styles make fights, cooney would beat a prime kenny norton, norton gave the hell to the boxers but he was garbage against big punchers.

  • White hype or hope whatever he's a bum.

  • Gentleman Gerry? Hit him again...

  • If only cooney had a good chin.

  • I don't blame Cooney's people for bringing him along against guys like this because a better fighter might have beaten him and this way he made a name for himself and got the big pay day.

  • Cooney had devastating power, but Norton was 38 yrs old at this time, and finished as a fighter.

  • @loyaldude10 norton was past his prime, but styles make fights, cooney would destroy prime norton as well, kenny never did well against big punchers

  • @combatesdeboxeo

and cooney didn't do well himself especially against larry holmes who gave out the worst beating ever to a fighter.

  • @loyaldude10 foreman was retired in 1977 because he would have problems always against stylists like ali, young or holmes, but foreman 1978-85 would have bombed out guys like berbick, cooney, leon and michael spinks, tex cobb, norton, tyson, coetze, evangelista, bugner, marvis frazier,shavers....

  • @combatesdeboxeo not Tyson LOL

  • Fuckin hell was the referee waiting for Norton to be killed before he stopped the fight.

  • How many more punches to the head should Norton have taken before its a good stoppage-moron

  • @jd0109 JAJAJAJAJA SO TRUE! HOW IS THIS TO BE CONSIDERED A HORRIBLE STOPPAGE IS A CRAZY COMMENT TO MAKE. NORTON WAS HURT BADLY AND THOSE PUNCHES BY COONEY COULD HAVE KILLED THE GUY AS HE WAS KO'D OUT ON HIS FEET, A STRETCHER WAS EVEN BROUGHT OUT TO HELP HIM OUT. TO SAY IT WAS A HORRIBLE STOPPAGE IS PLAIN DUMB! LMAO :))

  • Horrible Stoppage.

  • @BooRikkaaa101 stopped it way too soon! just horrible...

  • @primeboxers YOU'RE CRAZY WHY DON'T YOU STEP IN THE RING TO TAKE PUNCHES LIKE THAT TO SEE IF YOU CAN TAKE IT THEN YOU CAN SAY IF IT WAS A BAD STOPPAGE OR NOT LMAO JAJAJAJA VERY LAUGHABLE!!
