  • Cool and interesting idea, but I don't think its worth $2,749 + shipping, even if those are Canadian dollars on the website.

  • the sad part is that he is using up allot of his cost in the time to drill the holes by hand, would not be all that hard to automate that bit of the process if he wanted too

  • Gives a whole new meaning to the phase "I HAVE TO USE THE CAN MAN"

  • The best part is I can build one myself!

  • He didn't invent it......it's been around forever. He just commercialized it. And from what I hear ( I live in Newfoundland) it's way over priced, which is why he moved his operation out of Newfoundland. And there are thousands of "how to" videos to make your own that are just as good or better.

  • @MyMrsAmy a large sheet of polycarbornate like the one he is using for those panels probably cost a little over $1000

  • @miasmablk No......you can actually buy a1/8" 4'x8' sheet of polycarbonate for $108.80. Or 10 sheets for $809.20.

At a thousand bucks a pop there would be some pretty expensive greenhouses out there.

  • @MyMrsAmy where?

  • @miasmablk It won't let me post the page link so go to freckleface com, click on "Plastic Material" then "Polycarbonate Sheet." All the sizes and prices are there.

  • Why do I always end up watching these videos ?

  • Sounds like Lt. Dangle from Reno 911.....

  • Green? It didn't work in the 70's it wont work now. To many county laws in place. Also all of these what you ideas are new don't produce the output of oil.

  • I used to heat my pool with black poly pipe coiled on the roof of my shed. I would work just as well as this I think.

  • Brilliant Newfoundlander? Isn't that an oxymoron?

  • @Sealy57 that's an equivalent of racism. you are basing your opinion of someone based on where they are from.

  • @InFlameProductions

You should learn the definition of racism....

  • @Rofocowboy84 even if the stigma isn't based in the colour of his skin it's still an assumption of someones character based in a detail of thier history. forgive me if I don't have the correct word to describe that one.

  • @InFlameProductions

I agree with what you were trying to say, it was a very prejudicial statement, but based on nationality, not race.

  • if that hole saw in your drill press ever grabs your glove it will be the last time you do that!

  • @The87wing did you watch the drill press?? watch the video again, and pay close attention to the hole saw :D

  • Great idea but poor material choice for the tubes

Sell the cans for scrap use the funds to purchase thin wall tubing like electric EMT pipe less labor, no drilling, gluing or washing, A smaller pipe = more surface area exposed to the sun = more heated area in same size box = more hot air.

Free isn't always the cheapest in the long run.

  • I love your idea...I'm wondering how you connect the cans ? are they welded or glued or is it a trade secret ! Keep up the good work !

  • `All you need is a BLOWER´.

  • must have sunlight

  • No sun, no heat. However I guess it would be good on sunny fall and winter days and help save you money.

  • I work at a sign shop... I think I could build that in a day.

  • damn 3 grand for a unit but sounds better then the crap the government wants you to buy.

  • @massivemak Leave it up to a Maritimer to charge 3 Grand for something that probably costs them 1200 to build.

  • unless he invented this 20 years ago, he didn't invent this. They have been around since the 70's.

  • GREAT! I WAS LOOKING AT USING CORRUGATED POLY CARB SHEETING COVERED WITH THE SHINY SIDE OF KITCHEN FOIL.

FOCUSING THE RAYS ON TO BLACK COPPER PIPING (WATER HEATER USING FOCUSED SUN LIGHT?)

  • I did not watch the video, i came here to write that there is no such thing as a brilliant Newfoundlander!

  • @Criminalcondotcom Where is your patented invention? We all know that you, my friend, are obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed. What a small and simple mind you have to leave such a comment. All the best wishes to you in any future enlightenment you may receive.

  • very good idea

  • an ya kin beat a baby seal to death wih wun too!

  • methinks evacuated solar tubes would be a better investment. and ridiculously large hot water tank and a ridiculously large not cold water tank.

  • during the winter in a place like Canada where it is overcast all the time good luck staying warm lol!

  • @Wongofi its overcast in Canada in winter??? wierd i live in Canada and its sunny?

  • @pickelhead007 CAnada is huge, It's bound to be overcast somewhere.

  • @paintballingguy it was kinda sarcastic..but ya we get some sun.

  • @pickelhead007 Yeah, I figured :) But I hear you, I'm in Vancouver area. It rains 9 months out of the year here..

  • It'd be neat to have two or three units cycle hot air efficently through so the air gets hot enough before it reached the hot air duct and gets returned back into the cycle.

  • Simple technology. I may have to make one to experiment. I wonder if this type of thing would heat a garage that isn't insulated better than a propane heater?

The convex curve of the glass is essential when placing it inline with the sun's displacement throughout the day. I wonder how much air is moved through the unit with the blower?

It'd also be good to have the cold air return at the top of the building, while the hot air duct at the bottom since heat rises. But would it be efficiency enuf

  • @fabfauna if you put the cold air return high you will be sucking up the hottest air, since, as you say, hot air rises. The cold air return must be low, where the cold air is. home, It is not uncommon for heating ducts to pour heat from the ceiling.

  • Comment removed

  • Cool, but why this unit is sold for 2500 $, at that price, there is no way you will get your money back, you have to improve your production effectiveness !

  • Fuck,ing Asesome. Love it

  • Cool!!!!

  • That is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time!

  • @TheAnonynja .... the cans aren't edited in. The glass is curved which makes things distorted when there's movement, i.e. the camera's not steady.

  • What about night time? When you need the heat the most.

  • @theapocilip i was thinking the same thing when i heard about this a couple years back. Now im wondering if this type of thing would work with a cobb house. instead of using a rocket heater, i wonder if this would heat up some thermal mass enough to keep the house warm at night! although, in the north east winters, there isnt that much sun, so you would still have to have an alternative heating source. Maybe a combo of this and rocket heater. This for day time use/ sunny days.

  • @theapocilip These heaters are designed to work during the day. If you live in a cold climate and you can utilize one of these units you could probably cut 15-25% off your heating bill. The reality is is these things are not an alternative heat source, but simply meant to supplement. These heaters are perfect for garages and sheds that aren't heated and owners are looking for a low cost want to heat them during the day.

  • @theapocilip id have all leaks and drafts sealed, and get a few solar panels as well. solar panels will charge up all the batteries, run a portable oil heater off the battery whooo! i want to set this up!! but i dont have a house. just an apartment. with free heat and electricity already.

  • Tempered glass [float glass] in standard a size must be both cheaper and more durable [chemical resistant policarbonate is quite expensive]

also some aluminum cans are thicker than others, what's the effect?

also, while air is free/infinite and freeze-proof, a hi-bred air and water-heating system might be ideal? so could "as cheap/affordable" water pipes fit in the grooves?

  • in vancouver you should opt for water flow system different enviroments different solution

  • Er, anyone know why the glass has the blackened cans edited in to the video? you can clearly see the image layer shifting around "under" the glass..

  • This would be useless in Vancouver. Too overcast, cloudy, and rainy all winter. The only time you would be able to heat your house would be the already hot summer!

  • @duke1duke1 you could keep your building cool, though.

and even northern & western europe has sun in the winter, especially when it's clear and crispy cold.

  • This type of heater is 20 years old.

  • funny he does not look inbred.

  • Iron phoshate will turn aluminum black, and not peel. See your local chemist.

  • If you have alot of time the top and bottom of the can could be removed with a file.

  • Thats really cool but what would happen if you ran a long enough copper tube that coiled very tightly. could it possible double as a solar water heater?

  • they dont work, knew a guy who baught one. canada's 2 cold in the winter bud

  • @choochinbigtime420 : Was the heat exchanger properly installed? Or was it just "too cold" in Canada as you said? I'm sorry to hear this.

  • This is to make warm air? I take it you will use 'dryer hose' to duct the air in/out of the house? Then you will need a fan or blower... which can run on solar cells....thus automatically go on & off to match when the sun is heating the cans.

  • Props to earth you short sided fools

  • Brilliant

  • cans, paint, and computer fans. build a small one for 40 dollars and set it inside a window. box cutters will cut the holes if you are without major tools.

BTW is anyone aware of the neat toys the tesla company have? free energy... look into them.

  • where do i buy this and how much is it?

  • The idea is simple, and it is out there. You could make this yourself. No one can stop him now.

  • l like how people are just getting this information out to everyone, cheap/free energy for everyone!. l want to see all these free energy implementations utilized by 3rd world country's!!!

  • it's a good idea and if you were making your own this would be the way to do it - but if you are going to mass produce it would be cheaper to modify an aluminum can producer to make the things directly - also there are times when you want a solar gain and times you don't - I wonder how simple it is to turn the thing off - is it simply a matter of closing a vent or do you have to cover the thing up- solar water heaters are useful year round and have the best ROI

  • OKAY I stopped it at :18 seconds to say this -- Only a dumb shit - and I mean a real true to life dumb shit operates a drill press with gloves on. Okay I will finish watching now... Okay other than the glove thing seems like a good idea...

  • @AMilitantAgnostic

Only a dumb shit wouldn't noticed that he waits until the bit it down before he applies pressure to keep the can from damaging ...Little bit of common sense goes along ways!

Yes If was drilling will a regular bit into say wood...Its would be very stupid to have gloves

  • @AMilitantAgnostic can't be that stupid, he's done that to all those cans and he's still got hands.

  • @fairyheli2 And eye's......no safety glasses drilling the can's.

  • @AMilitantAgnostic - he is wearing leather gloves - leather won't wind up on a spindle like a cloth glove will. I use leather gloves all the time on the drill press, and I am not a true to life dumb shit. Years ago, when I ran the drill press wearing cloth gloves - well, then I was a dumb shit with a hole in the side of his thumb.

  • It's a Hungarian Solar Heater. Says no maintenance but it will fill with dust if you don't maintain it.

  • I'm going to make a safe assumption that every dislike this video has is from someone who makes money off coal and/or oil.

  • Good thing I got all those Pallagrino, Canada Dry and Diet Dr. Pepper cans laying around in my studio! XD

Come to think of it...I really should get that place cleaned...

  • yep at $2749 a unit - forget that - I ain't a rich greenie - for that I can make my own - it ain't worth it

  • Why you think they want the cans back...

    wake up people!

  • GOD has blessed the Newfies.

WOW. Impressed is not the WORD.

Look at how humble he is...and confident to tell the WORLD....

  • Yes..only someone far away and isolated could get away with this...as the oil industry assassination black op teams.... have knocked off hundreds if not thousands of people that have created these solar generators. Hopefully he will be safe, and not take the ten million plus dollars that he will be bribed with to sell out....look at what happened to Rick Simpson of Nova Scotia helping people cure cancer with hemp oil ... prayers for this brave man ... may he be safe to help people...

  • @beefree1

Oil Company assassins? Where did you get that? That's bullshit!

  • @beefree1 They have not caught me yet! I heat my house with Waste Vegetable Oil using a modified Beckett burner. This other electrician I know runs his Diesel Car on WVO. This car has been parked on Oil Refinery property during jobs. Esso, Pet-Can and $hell

  • In northern climates when the sun goes down and its 30 below zero outside would this unit not act opposite and provide convective heat loss?

  • @ffej112233 Yes you are correct, this devices are for a template locations only, If you live on freezing areas like me, it would be no good choice.

  • Wow great concept!

  • Planning on making 2 this fall. I have two 12v - 6" fans that delivers 240cfm each and draw 1.85 amps. Would this be too much air moving across the panel or should I go with a smaller fan. I am not sure how much cost it would be to run the 1.85 amp fans as opposed to something much smaller. Any ideas? Thanks

  • If you're talking about the odd motion at 0:44, I think it's just a result of the video compression.

  • is it just me or is the "black alluminum moving in a different fashion than the rest of the pane? I smell a hefty conspiracy here

  • "Sunlight liquid, of course."

  • Now I have a great reason to tell my wife I need to go buy more cans of beer. I'm helping to save the envioronment by going ..... *Bluurp* ..... greener......

  • Ingenuity at work. Awesome.

  • did you actually invent this or did you just make it after seeing it and improve it a lot?

  • Thank u.

  • Very innovative. I liked the use of the cans' preformed edges for centering rings. My only concern would be the absence of a heat sink. Also, while this arrangement makes excellent use of waste soda cans, the resistance from the rough edges inside the cans doesn't make for a smooth flow of air. Large electrical conduit would eliminate that, although it wouldn't as inventive as this. The greater thermal mass of the EMT would keep the heat more consistent on a day with patchy clouds. Nice job.

  • @BR549guy I heard him say that the air moved through the cans like a centerfuge so the rough edges would make the air come in contact with more surface area eg a heat sink. I'm not an engineer but it seems pretty plausable.

  • @Landotter1 If the air flow has more inner surface contact time through increased resistance, I suppose that would be true, although I would think that adding a stationary dispersion turbine arrangement at the bottom of a smooth uninterrupted tube would be able to create a more efficient vortex, if that was what you were looking for. You could test that out w/o the turbine by experimenting with different sized restrictor plates at the bottom of the columns.

  • @BR549guy .....Part 2: That would allow YOU to control the rate of heat rise and air flow rather than be limited by the design. Right now, you're limited by the design. (No offense.) The cans were a great use of an existing waste resource and the cans stack neatly on top of each other. If you were able to control the temp to get hotter air during the day and then pump some of it into a heat sink, you could draw off that heat sink in the evening after the sun went down.

  • @BR549guy Absolutely!!! You and I are on the same page man..... I saw another design where they were thinking of heating rocks, to slowly release the stored heat..... Made total sense to me. The Eastern Europeans and Russians have been doing it for years, with their masonry furnace/stove/ovens, for decades. Many same principles could be adapted to this design. Now, all we need is some kind of magnifier to get more heat out of the same unit, store the heat in a heat sink (stones).

  • @BR549guy My brother and I were experimenting with parabolic reflectors on sidereal motor drives, high pressure stainless focal tubes, stuff like that. We ran out of funds, but the ideas still keep a comin'.

Whatever you wind up with, the more mass you have in the unit, the less sporadic the temperature changes will be between sunlight and cloud cover, like on a day with patchy clouds. You could even use thermostatically driven vents doors and/or motor controllers to ...... cont'd

  • @BR549guy Part 2.2: ... decrease the airflow through the heat sink when the temp drops from clouds overhead. Heat the room when the clouds are out; heat the heat sink when the sun is brightest. The success of the whole thing is how well sized your collector is to the house volume, things like that.

So many people are coming up with absolutely fabulous ideas, many of them shown here on YouTube. This is a great one. It all helps defeat the New World Order.

  • It doesn't work in nulcear winter though : (

  • Looks like something from 2001 space odyssey attached to the house...looks like a good idea etc. but then not sure of the sense. And as @yayakills says $2749 is no give away. All the same nice job...

  • Love it! I would probably use it for water though. Hot air.... idk. But if you could modify it for water that would be AWESOME!!!

  • nice idea but i cannot imagine that does work in winter, then is under 0 degrees, how gets it warm......in summer dont need heater!

  • @zekoimedo Have you ever been in a car when the sun is shining even when it's cold outside? The inside of the car is still warm because it's absorbing the radiation from the sun. This is the same principle. They do work and quite well, of course when the days are very short their heating capabilities are also short. In a very cold zone you would need many of these to heat your home all winter and probably also need some kind of water heater device to store warm energy through out the night.

  • love this mcgyver @#$@

  • Hear comes the dumb question. If the suns heating it up. What happens when it's cold? That's when my house needs heating!

  • @MrSheppard1980 good question =/ i dont understand how the energy, or heat is stored?

  • @congruent2006 It's not stored. Its just directly moving heat from sunlight as heated air into your home to keep your furnace from being the sole provider of heat. A good generation 2 design on this might be making a way to heat water in an insulated tank so once the sun goes down the hot water can pump into a radiator in your house and let off the latent heat energy the water has stored. But until then this isnt about storage. Just harnessing some solar heat and putting it in the home.

  • The people that press thumbs down to live video are oil grubbing idiots.

  • omfg. this home made furnace goes for

"MSRP $2749.00 + shipping and taxes where applicable"

I got that from his website

  • excellent idea...thanks for sharing it.

  • I wonder if he ever thought about using 16 fl oz cans instead of 12 fl oz? I live in the US and the deposit is the same on both sizes. It would maybe also cut down on the labor involved since the cans length is the only dimension that is increased.

  • @Iemota21 Recycling doesn't discriminate, he didn't order them.

  • @Iemota21 smart idea.

  • lol holy crap, you see how much they want for this shit?

  • Great way to spread the concept regardless of who came up with it first, props from the U.S!

  • Good on ya Jim, nice one bye!

  • Intense and really cool! Thank you Kenny 173rd Airborne Brigade 1969

  • WOW, I bet we'd be much further along if you know who hadn't taken things into the dumper while the Republicans were arguing with the Democrats!

  • Comment removed

  • He hasn't said he invented it btw.

  • "Brilliant Newfoundlander"

I have never seen these words strung together before, nor did I think it possible, other than to describe a Newfie who had just drunk a 55 gallon drum of nuclear waste, thinking it was an Australian beer can.

  • @thefifthpython Go on bye you got your arse up wind sucking air, newfies are the backbone of the country. But hey speaking like a idio does seems to be your fortey. So maybe you attract morns, yest there are some idiot arse holes from the rock but arse holes come in all colors.

  • @bildakid for someone who talks about idiots and morons but can't even spell the words...I'd suggest keeping your comments to yourself lest you risk looking like the idiot moron...and how does such comments fit with this video? The content is cool...or should I say HOT! A great way to recycle something there is way too much of and turn it into something useful...why can't you decide to comment on that instead? I agree that thefithpython's comments were also pathetic but really...

  • @MichaelSkowronski You can't expect to make a comment about a group of people and not have one of them comment back. Some people have dyslexia, and if a word spelt wrong keeps you from listening to someone then you probally don't listen to someone if they have an accent either. xenophobia has it's price.

  • @bildakid

What's the language called where you come from? Almost like English . . . maybe Newfiese?

  • @thefifthpython ,

it's english, but since it's a small island cut off from the mainland canada many different dialects have evolved from the different english, irish, scottish, and french descendants that inhabited the provinces fishing communities. It's a beautiful place, and the people are very resourceful as this fellow shows.

  • @bildakid Newfoundland is the 16th biggest island in the world, so it isn't small....

  • this guy stole this from a early 70's populas science magazine

  • This idea has been around for decades. This guy did not invent this.

  • Nice presentation...very timely and makes perfect sense!

  • It would be good to transition to the Resource based economy via the Venus PRoject. watch?v=4Z9WVZddH9w

I wish I could make one for myself.

  • I have to wonder how much time, energy, effort, and money would be saved if he just plain bought some thin-wall aluminum pipe or venting. I also have to wonder if the hollows between the pipes could hold copper tubing so the same collector could heat hot water.

  • Won't work at night and one panel might heat an igloo. No thanks.

  • @blendn61

    paying the parasites is patriotic

  • Simple concept, excellent design.

A great DIY project for the handyman; but I wouldn't start marketing these myself w/o a license from this guy. I doubt that he'd mind you putting one together for yourself. though.

  • Well done... thank you

  • Don't be surprised if the Global Oil Elite has this guy "disappeared".

  • @smilingpug Ridiculous. Get educated

  • @smilingpug : no use. The technology is out there - easy to make.

  • @smilingpug And yet the company is still around after this video being seen for over three years. Selling these panels for 2800 bucks.

    More Power to Him. lol

  • @smilingpug can i add you on facebook

  • @smilingpug There have been many such cases. Does anyone remember the much ballyhooed "Home Generator Project" that had one US Young Businessman/Investor and one Well known German industrialist project ready and factories tooled with only 2 weeks out to full production that would GREATLY reduce all the worlds demand on the power grid?

Both of these men were cover boys of their respective markets and industry... now their is not a peep of either one. No word, no story, no info to be found.

  • @smilingpug

If he cant be bought out, then probably :( otherwise green planet for all!

  • Super - Absolutely Brilliant - Bravo - Bravo - Bravo Jim Meaney !!

  • There seems to be alot more explanation that could be added to this. He said with a voucher kit you are getting paid to use it... Voucher kit from where? The youtube owner could add anotations on top of the video to provide some more details.

  • OMG! This is EXACTLY what we need! Can't wait to start doing this. Incredible! This man is a genius and a savior of the world. If this works, this will change the world and the way we are in it. Amazing!

  • can't wait to try this!

  • Jim as the hot moist air returns to the cold heat exchanger have you accounted for condensation?

  • Great video BUT I couldn't understand what the guy was saying due to his accent :-(

  • @ontopofthe7thhill really? ...that was very mild actually...

  • @ontopofthe7thhill then your an idiot

  • I liked the video BUT I couldn't understand due to his accent. :-(

  • @ontopofthe7thhill no hope for you at all then

  • Great idea

    Thanks

    All the best to you.

    ~Cheers~

    B.Champagne

  • i would repost this, if the intro didnt say "go green"

  • @Sc0ttPrian don't suppose you'd care to provide a reason for that?

  • @LeDucDArcachon going green just appears to be a marketing scheme. one that i care not to promote. THOUGH, great video. i LOVE the whole idea and design behind this :)

  • Zero cost to create heat? I'm in!!!

  • @angellicrequiem I see a bud light can at 1:19

  • @baygal87

    THATS COORS LIGHT NOT BUD!

    *Bitch slaps*

  • Jaaa! But it only works day time, assuming the Sun is out.

  • Sounds like the guy from Reno911 with the short shorts...

  • This has been around for years, I bought a book that was published in 84 that has this idea in it LMAO and it just took someone to patent it lol instant millionaire! smart guy good on yea!

  • @jeffpenn329 That is Jim Meaney's idea. It was published in 1984, the very book you have. He's been up till a few years ago fighting to meet the patent requirement.

  • @camry6 There was a group called SOLAR THERM selling them before 1984.Trouble was they sold them like amway or such crap. The cost was 5000 bucks and you could get half back on your taxes for energy savings and then on and on about your lower bill till you were getting it " free".

  • Lol brilliant idea minus that he's making it in one of the darkest places in the world. Now if he could make wind mills out of liquor bottles he'd be on to something.
