very nice install. can i ask you a question, how did u put the amps on the fuel tank? did you use velcro, or did u screw it into something that is on top of the fuel tank?
3/4" screws are just short enough to go through the carpet and carpet pad and grab the metal without hitting the tank. 1 1/2" are too long... ask me how i know.....
i put in 8 1 1/2" screws holding down my 1000/1 and my 300/4 and 7 of them went into the pump and the tank.... i had to drop the tank and replace the pump and repair the tank.
@colthard, hey man i was wondering how you knew that the damage had been done. my camaro had a system in it before, when the previous owner had it so i was wondering if theres anything i should look out for to be able to tell if he damaged the tank, pump, or anything in there. Im building a custom box for my amps but want to make sure to fix anything before continuing my build on this one. i had previouly built a 02 z28 but lost job and lost car to the bank. saved & bought 98 z28 cash. new start

i know them speakers require more than .75 cubic feet and that box doesnt give them that right? my 2 12's require .85 minimum and all the boxes i look at are .75 please any advice?

I don't own a camaro but all cars usually have the same problems. Put a cap on it.... even better get a cap cell. Capacitors don't work all that well. I have a 3.0 Farad Power Acoustik capacitor on my 2000 watt Hifonics amp and it still dems the lights. not too badly but thats because Hifonics amps use less power than other amps!
on my maro i put a 200 amp alternator and a red top battery under the hood and a yellow top in the rear close to the amps. no dimming, no voltage drop. i threw away my capacitor, it was useless.
I dont own any of the two but im lookin to get a 10" either w7 or w6. quality wise the w7 is still better and louder aswell but its also more expensive. the w6 focuses more on quality like you said rather than loudness which the w7 does both. i don't have spare cash so my build is on hold as i recently got alpine ida x100 head unit ;)
My boy had 2 10W6's in the back of his cougar on a JL 1000/1 nd standing next 2 the car on 80% volume my dad, who was a 23yr pilot for the army said it shook the ground more than 12 cobra helicoptors firing up at the same time... so ya they make some serious noise with the right amp and setup
how does is sound with the trunk closed? i have a camaro myself (soon gettin subs) and woundering if it will sound true with out making the rattling sound from the glass and trunk.

I've got my 4th gen Camaro running a JL setup too. 2 12W3v3's are hooked up to a JL 500/1v2. VR coaxials all the way around powered with the A4300. I like it, but I'm thinking about either upgrading to 10W6's or ZRs.
in that vid all i had were some upper end (but still crappy) sony speakers. now i have a 300/4 running two sets of alpine type r components, but im considering going to JL C5's. I've installed a set of ZR's before and they fucking amazing, but theres no way i could ever fork over $500 just for one set of speakers. The C5's arent very far behind the ZR's and for the price you could buy two sets, which would be able to outperform a single set of the ZR's.

just make sure your box seals off well, you have everything wired up right, and you dont put screws in places that might poke a hole in your gas tank. my stupid ass put 7 holes in my tank just recently. i had to drop the tank in my car and repair all of them. MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS...
i would go with the 15" L7 in a 3.5 ft^3 i had one before running on a DHD 2000 watt amp and the hole truck was shaking like crazzy it was a wiered thing but alot of people were impresed of how it sounded for 1 15" and a not so good amp. that i remember the port was 2in wide 16 in long and 25 in deep. man the low frequensies would hit really hard! i had the truck in the other side of the street and my wood floor would shake! I always though maby i got a L7 on steroids but na it was normal.
nice camaro... like the box, but custom is the only way to go, because there hasn't been a company that has built a box that is good enough for the small air space of the car. But other than that, what did you do for speakers?
i built that box myself, exactly to JL specs and it made all the difference in the world. as far as speakers go, i just have some higher end sony 6x9s and 6 1/2's pushed by the head unit. they're pretty loud, theres just very little midbass...
They're based out of Florida. Depends on which components you;re talking about. The subs are made in the USA iirc, tweeters in Germany, and a mix between Germany and China for their speakers.
I went with top of the line focal speaker system, and an alpine R12 sub... there is a fair bit of bass, but the car was built for sound quality... best of show for quality in a sound competition...

i just recently got two sets of alpine type R components and im still working on the fiberglass work for putting them in. i also bought a jl 300/4 amp to push them.
how does it sound when you close the hatch? Does it sound better? or does the bass just seeps out and all you can hear is the speakers hitting the voice coil?
the bass practically doubles because of the acoustical effect. you hear the coils more with the hatch open than with it shut. i've never tested with a good dB meter, but i have friends that have been measured on termlab in the the high 130's and mine is slightly louder than there's. obviously this isnt very accurate but i think im at least hitting 140dB.
a pretty much, but just because you have the power, doesnt mean you have to use every bit of it all the time. eventually id like to get two 10w7s but thats a lot later down the road...
yeah... i'm debating between the two 10w7's and the 13w7... i havent really decided yet. the 13w7 would be cheaper, but at the same time i like beaing able to put other peoples 12's and 15's to shame when i only have 10's. and the 10w7's would even do a much better job at it.
yeah, theres still a little bit of room in the bottom. once i get my 300/4 amp im gonna put a red top under the hood and put my yellow top under the box.

until you've heard my speakers, don't hate it. for $120, they're louder than a lot of my friends kickers, memphis', alpines and fosgates, and they spent more than double what i did and didnt get near as much. dont get me wrong, i do plan to get jl's eventually, but for a cheap factory replacement, the sony's i have are pretty damn clear and loud.
i only bought them to replace the blown factory speakers, not to be like some super awesome speakers. thing is, they turned out to be pretty decent. at least a lot more decent than what i was expecting for what i paid for them
they're pretty good deals, you just dont get a warranty. thing is, if you hook it up right and know when to stop turning it up, you shouldnt need a warranty.
What kind of amp will I need to get for two jl audio 10w6v2's at 4 ohm. Im ready to install my shit help!! I was told a 500/1 jl audio amp wouldn't be enough?
the 500/1 wouldnt be enough and the 1000/1 would almost be too much, but would be a much better bet. if you can refrain from beating the subs to the bottom out point, the 1000/1 would probably be your better bet as far as JL goes, but if you aren't careful you could very easily mutilate those subs. as far as other brands go, memphis makes good amps, as well as fosgate, and i hate to say it, but kicker makes a pretty decent amp as well.
great system man, what kind of car is that in, ive got a 91 firebird showcar that i wanted to put 2-3 10W7 in but i was told that the rear glass would not be able to withstand the vibration, is this true?
thanks, i've got it in a 98 camaro. as long as you use a sealed box i think the glass should be able to handle it. if you went with a ported box on 3 10w7s, i think you might risk blowing the seal on it. it'd be pretty badass to do so and say you did it though. with just the two 10w6's i can get a pretty good bit of flex out of my rear glass.

sounds like its gonna be a pretty good match to me. if you wire all the coils correctly, you should be able to get the overall impedance at 2.67 ohms and at that load on that amp you should be getting right around the correct rms for all three of them.
i have the jl 1000/1 and its way too much power for the two 10w6's even though theoretically they're only getting 100 extra watts a piece. three of those things and that memphis amp is going to be insane in the cab of a truck. once you do it, i've gotta see a vid, lol
I had a 10w6v2 on a 500/1 and blew it 3 times in four years. every time teh subs voice coils were SHOT. if you listen to them hard that will definitely happen soon. so id opt for another w6 and youll be smart- or take off the 1000/1 - i know sorry to say that.
I really wouldn't play it that hard. It just sounds like complete farts. But i am having wire problems in my camaro.

They're based out of Florida. Depends on which components you;re talking about. The subs are made in the USA iirc, tweeters in Germany, and a mix between Germany and China for their speakers.

Yeah, I did basically the opposite of you...
I went with top of the line focal speaker system, and an alpine R12 sub... there is a fair bit of bass, but the car was built for sound quality... best of show for quality in a sound competition...
forgot... I have zapco amps and an alpine dvd headunit

i just recently got two sets of alpine type R components and im still working on the fiberglass work for putting them in. i also bought a jl 300/4 amp to push them.

how does it sound when you close the hatch? Does it sound better? or does the bass just seeps out and all you can hear is the speakers hitting the voice coil?

the bass practically doubles because of the acoustical effect. you hear the coils more with the hatch open than with it shut. i've never tested with a good dB meter, but i have friends that have been measured on termlab in the the high 130's and mine is slightly louder than there's. obviously this isnt very accurate but i think im at least hitting 140dB.

a pretty much, but just because you have the power, doesnt mean you have to use every bit of it all the time. eventually id like to get two 10w7s but thats a lot later down the road...

yeah... i'm debating between the two 10w7's and the 13w7... i havent really decided yet. the 13w7 would be cheaper, but at the same time i like beaing able to put other peoples 12's and 15's to shame when i only have 10's. and the 10w7's would even do a much better job at it.

until you've heard my speakers, don't hate it. for $120, they're louder than a lot of my friends kickers, memphis', alpines and fosgates, and they spent more than double what i did and didnt get near as much. dont get me wrong, i do plan to get jl's eventually, but for a cheap factory replacement, the sony's i have are pretty damn clear and loud.

What kind of amp will I need to get for two jl audio 10w6v2's at 4 ohm. Im ready to install my shit help!! I was told a 500/1 jl audio amp wouldn't be enough?

the 500/1 wouldnt be enough and the 1000/1 would almost be too much, but would be a much better bet. if you can refrain from beating the subs to the bottom out point, the 1000/1 would probably be your better bet as far as JL goes, but if you aren't careful you could very easily mutilate those subs. as far as other brands go, memphis makes good amps, as well as fosgate, and i hate to say it, but kicker makes a pretty decent amp as well.

great system man, what kind of car is that in, ive got a 91 firebird showcar that i wanted to put 2-3 10W7 in but i was told that the rear glass would not be able to withstand the vibration, is this true?

thanks, i've got it in a 98 camaro. as long as you use a sealed box i think the glass should be able to handle it. if you went with a ported box on 3 10w7s, i think you might risk blowing the seal on it. it'd be pretty badass to do so and say you did it though. with just the two 10w6's i can get a pretty good bit of flex out of my rear glass.

i love jl audio, i used to have 2 12w6v2 in my car.. i used it for SPL.
but now i got a truck and im gonna install 3 10w6v2 connected to a memphis mojo 2000w... what do u think

sounds like its gonna be a pretty good match to me. if you wire all the coils correctly, you should be able to get the overall impedance at 2.67 ohms and at that load on that amp you should be getting right around the correct rms for all three of them.

i have the jl 1000/1 and its way too much power for the two 10w6's even though theoretically they're only getting 100 extra watts a piece. three of those things and that memphis amp is going to be insane in the cab of a truck. once you do it, i've gotta see a vid, lol

I had a 10w6v2 on a 500/1 and blew it 3 times in four years. every time teh subs voice coils were SHOT. if you listen to them hard that will definitely happen soon. so id opt for another w6 and youll be smart- or take off the 1000/1 - i know sorry to say that.
