@sophizzy3well my brothers both went to 2 atrocious state schools, both went to Oxford, one's a scholar. They didn't have tutors. Public and private schools are ridiculously unfair, firstly why on earth should you be able to buy a better education than someone else, i thought Queen Victoria was meant to have dealt with that problem over 100 years ago, secondly, you're not buying a better education, you're buying a class of people that are less likely to take drugs, drink get pregnant etc.
@clrtomsett Well the thing is, your basically put into private schools by your parents because they want whats best for you. My parents spent a lot on my secondary education, and to be honest I don't think I would be studying where I am right now if they didn't. It might be unfair to the rest of the people, but I would say its more of an example of how public education is failing. btw loads of people in my school drank and did drugs... excelent education teaches you weeds ok:) as are abortions!
Tony Blair (Fettes) is responsible for the poor education system in Britain today not David Cameron.
When it came to educating their own children, the Blairs chose 2 of the best selective state schools in London and hired tutors for their children to get into the most prestigious universities. Oh the hypocrisy!
I am at eton, and while I agree with you that much of the poor state of the education system is to with Etonians, I don't think it's because of where they went to school.
Btw, Eton is not nearly as full of posh toffs as many think. There Are a few but the majority are just clever boys descended from fairly well off middle class parents. I myself grew up in a standard 3 bedroom house in a totally unremarkable part of London
@ryandavidkett I understand your petulance about British state of education. On the other hand i can't blame pertinents of eton college for this. We should blame Goverments' policy. In my point of view every child has the right of education. Unfortunately every child hasn't the chance of befitting education, so we should consider if british schools should bring knowledge or educate students and grad-students for market's needs. This is the root of the problem
Why did the subtitle person, whoever they were, do the bits where people are talking in English? particularly when the butchered titles are so far from what they are actually saying??
I can see me wicked! funny hearing all the arses on here Gymnosophy and locsman what imbecciles and pair of brain dead retards. Remember great scraps between houses real punch ups- floreat etona
@locsman they showed a total of about 20 students... in england. your an idiot. obviously there are all races of people at eton as it is the best school in the world and people who can get in come from across the globe. note 'who can get in' i mean intelligence wise not because who his father is or how much money his family owns. the fact that you noticed there were no black people in the documentary shows you are wary of race and that you think it matters... suggesting you are a racist.
Hahaha, it's interesting to see so many different opinions on a school!
Though the video has a few factual mistakes, it's a good video for the Japanese. It really shows the differences between school systems.
I might show this video to some Japanese students to introduce some cultural/educational differences. If you don't mind Mr. Reality Enjoy. lol. I see from your profile you like the Battousai stories.
I am old-Etonian of Godolphin house, and I am in Greece now. I am student of Political Science. I know there is huge difference between private and common schools but here in Greece, things are even worse. Rubbish, bad manners, no classrooms, no teachers, no responsibilities.
@chelidonopoulos1 - I do object to the use of the phrase 'common schools'. I think that you will find they are more 'commonly' referred to as 'state schools'. It is somewhat ironic that an Etonion would use such a phrase, seeing as generations of old=Etonian's can shoulder much of the responsibility for the disgraceful state of education within this country.
@ryandavidkett also to solely blame O.Es for the horrendous state of Britons state education is ludicrous . You are just another one of those people who knows nothing about the school aside from our reputation as portrayed by the tabloids. i find this view irritating but it is impossible to enlighten some one over youtube who no doubt has little interest in being told anything by some one who he no doubt believes to be a posh twat.
yeah, the British education system says that 'public schools' are where you pay to go and 'state schools' are free ones run by the state. But don't ask me what a private school is.
the term "public school" is semantic. public sounds like they are open to everyone-everyone who was the money and breeding that is. if they were called elite schools then that would be more accurate because that is what they are.
well, eton is a school which admits very bright students, and why shouldn't it have the right to? ok, calling it a public school may sound wrong, but it is what it is, and don't take the mickey out of a certain school just because of its standard.
the school ALSO give many scholarships to those who cant afford the fees but are very smart or very musical or very talented at sport, so dont say that just because someone has money and reputation, they can go to school there.
So someone like me, who comes from a council estate in northern England and goes to Eton on a 110% (yes you read that right) scholarship automatically becomes a toff? Your view is typical of the stereotype. Some are born moneyed, but most boys at Eton are polite, considerate and aware of how privileged they are. Almost a third of boys at Eton are on some sort of financial help, with 25 (and plans for this to go up to 100) educated free invalidates your argument. Eton is open to any clever boy.
@ryandavidkett what the hell are they supposed to do ? just make it free for everyone ? common sense tells you surely that that would be impossible to maintain.
1. I am glad because it means I have to make my own way in life because i wasn't handed everything on a plate
2. When did I say I had a choice? I was just saying I'm glad this is the life I was born into
3. That statement just shows how ignorant and materialistic you are because you're saying the only life worth living is a rich one, or in the kitten's case, its life isn't worth living unless it is as strong as a lion, both of which are untrue
on 1: Those with successful parents are not deprived of the choice of "making their own way in life"--what makes you think you have monopoly over that privilege.
on 2: That does not make your lot superior to that of others--ergo, a negation of #1 above.
on 3: Nobody ever asserted that being rich makes life worth living--you, however, state that your not being rich makes you superior.
Get over your inferiority complex disguised as superiority complex, you pathetic twat.
Yes rich children can make their own way in life but if that child ever hits hard times the parents can simply buy them out of it therefore that person is not making their own way after all. "My lot" don't have a monopoly over that choice but we don't have any other choice, which is what I was saying
How is stating that I'm glad I'm not rich mean I feel superior or in fact, make me inferior, in any way? It's a personal preference. Maybe you should realise that some people don't need money .....
... so it makes perfect sense for me to say I prefer not being rich if that is the life I'm happy to lead
I'm the pathetic one am I? When you realised I can actually argue the point and I'm not an idiot, your vocabulary went through the roof, and phrases such as "superioty complex" started coming out, because you thought I wouldn't understand what that means. Your assumption that being "poor" makes you uneducated is extremely pathetic
why do we have to be so different to you, what makes you think that we would be so useless? just because the general view of the population is that we are a bunch of posh twats doesn't mean we are.
some of us have just had bad experiences with you though. My friends and I were invited to a charity conference thing involving Eton, and if looks could kill.. Honestly, it was just very funny the way that they disliked us the moment they saw us. We were all in hysterics..!
With enough money no problems in life can touch you..... rent late ? no way new car? noot a problem cant pay the water bill? i dont think so 10 quid to live on for the next week? you "posh twats" tip 10x that at restraunts, you havent experianced real life or real problems an THATS what seperates you from me :)
again you make the generalisation that all boys at eton are filthy rich admittedly there are some, but we are not all as the tabloids portray us, i understand that i may not have experienced the things you have , but does that make me a less useful person to society ? or a less practical person ?
yeaaa thats a reasonable point, at the same time though for my A level in psychology we looked at eton an alot of the boys there are completely unprepared for the real world when they leave the safe little bubble that is eton an their parents, but i guess that comes down to parenting more than anything.
It was a case study, they took a batch of 50 boys from eton followed their experiance through the school an caught up with them a year later an interviewed the 50 in depth an the general consensus in my class was they left eton an sort of realised life after eton/university wasn't anything like what they thought it would be. Still a great deal more priviledged than most mind you.
hmm okay, that is really interesting, i suppose i never really think of it like that. i was just wondering do you know how long ago this was done as the school has changed a great deal recently with the new-ish head man. i am also suprised that the boys allowed themselves tol be used as guniea pigs in that way. still i suppose fore-warned is fore-armed in my case
i didn't kno the school had channged an i guess i still have a very mediaval view of the place i must say this has been a refreshing change from 99% of the people that talk to me here haha, an i also must consider the point of you cant judge a book by its cover
thank you very much , i just feel kind of annoyed how much stick we get, i mean it isn't our fault , and we do work bloody hard to get here and once we are here. it is nice to have at lease semi-converted some one
i Ended up getting an A in psychology A level then went on to durham university
o and how does it feel knowing you drop 30k a year on an education you could get from any secondary school but without the silly traditions posh jackets and outdated eton slang?
you replyed to a 5 month old comment with that ? i mean you watched the video to pick a fight, you trawled through the comments to find someone to take your ignorant anger out upon and all you could come up with is profanity? . i think you should seriously re-asses what it is you call a life , btw do you want me to re-post in simplified English for you?
do you honestly have nothing better to do, i honestly am not angry at your hilarious abuse, i merely pity you. i hope you realize soon that you need to find something a little more constructive with your life. first go out and get some friends, then please read some literature to expand your vocabulary from non-words like Hi, or the word cunt.
I think YouTube will be less than pleased because of your attitude, I must say.
I have to wonder, what your parents think of you. Spending your life on the internet, trying to start arguments, trying to get one up of people. Your parents must have completely failed you in their attempt to try and raise you properly.
Why are you trying to start arguments? No, I'll answer that question for you. Because:
1. You are jealous of people who get this sort of education.
2.You have no life, so the way you can fill your life is to try to argue with people. And I can see this due to your comment to 'chuckmanbob' five months after he last commented.
So I give you this advice: get some friends, get a job, get out of your parents' basement, get a life and stop annoying people who you think are worse that you.
@gymnosophy ha i came back to show a friend your retardation. shock horror you are picking more fights. please take your inferiority-complex elsewhere as we all just think you are really dumb , and jealous.
also are so jealous because you tried and failed to get in, or that my parents worked harder than yours to make a success of themselves, or just care about me enough to educate me properly. coz i am certainly not gonna get a good education from Gordon am i?
Hahaha ya Tori cunt- Gordon the gofer could give you a better education.
My complex is superior you numpty!
Your parents bought you an education because they are chinless cunts and want the same for their chinless offspring and wanted you away from their home as Eton, like all boarding schools is a cheaper than a Polish nanny. Do you feel rejected deep down!!!
Were you a fag there? Did you get bummed by the head boy?
@chuckmanbob - I have no issue against those who go to Eton, or any other private school. What I do find most hilarious however is the appalling grammar and spelling in your posts. Sorry to break it to you Bob, but you could quite easily have left pretty much any state school with a better grasp at English literature. I counted at least two spelling mistakes, three missing capital letters, and an unsuitable abbreviation. Nothing wrong with Eton, although perhaps not great value for money?
@ryandavidkett you don't have a problem with etonians ? 'old=Etonian's can shoulder much of the responsibility for the disgraceful state of education within this country.' also you wrote old=etonians, should be Old Etonians, and in response to your unnecessary and provocative comment, why would i take such care and time to check over youtube comments as you no doubt did ? who really cares about proper grammar on youtube ?
1:50 hah, i remember, when i went there this summer , we had to stay there for almost half an hour because it was heavily raining...not something rare for england...

do you honestly have nothing better to do, i honestly am not angry at your hilarious abuse, i merely pity you. i hope you realize soon that you need to find something a little more constructive with your life. first go out and get some friends, then please read some literature to expand your vocabulary from non-words like Hi, or the word cunt.

I'm not surprised you asked, only a blind cunt would ask such a question.

you haven't answered their question.

put your mother on, I want to speak to her about your behaviour
gymnosophy 1 year ago
I think YouTube will be less than pleased because of your attitude, I must say.
I have to wonder, what your parents think of you. Spending your life on the internet, trying to start arguments, trying to get one up of people. Your parents must have completely failed you in their attempt to try and raise you properly.

I don't wonder what your parents think of you. Your father is your mothers uncle and your mother is your sister

JDEL123 1 year ago
Just because you can't see people on the internet doesn't mean you are better than them.

You are the result of a Nazi experiment gone wrong. Your head is made of cheese and your father was a frenchman

@gymnosophy ha i came back to show a friend your retardation. shock horror you are picking more fights. please take your inferiority-complex elsewhere as we all just think you are really dumb , and jealous.
also are so jealous because you tried and failed to get in, or that my parents worked harder than yours to make a success of themselves, or just care about me enough to educate me properly. coz i am certainly not gonna get a good education from Gordon am i?
chuckmanbob 1 year ago
@chuckmanbob eh cunt, stop stalking me, I told you I'm not gay
gymnosophy 1 year ago
Hahaha ya Tori cunt- Gordon the gofer could give you a better education.
My complex is superior you numpty!
Your parents bought you an education because they are chinless cunts and want the same for their chinless offspring and wanted you away from their home as Eton, like all boarding schools is a cheaper than a Polish nanny. Do you feel rejected deep down!!!
Were you a fag there? Did you get bummed by the head boy?
Answer the question!!!!
Hahahaha

@chuckmanbob - I have no issue against those who go to Eton, or any other private school. What I do find most hilarious however is the appalling grammar and spelling in your posts. Sorry to break it to you Bob, but you could quite easily have left pretty much any state school with a better grasp at English literature. I counted at least two spelling mistakes, three missing capital letters, and an unsuitable abbreviation. Nothing wrong with Eton, although perhaps not great value for money?
ryandavidkett 1 year ago
@ryandavidkett you don't have a problem with etonians ? 'old=Etonian's can shoulder much of the responsibility for the disgraceful state of education within this country.' also you wrote old=etonians, should be Old Etonians, and in response to your unnecessary and provocative comment, why would i take such care and time to check over youtube comments as you no doubt did ? who really cares about proper grammar on youtube ?
chuckmanbob 1 year ago
@ryandavidkett sorry to post outline your hypocrisy and idiocy once more but you hilariously wrote "a better grasp at English literature"
chuckmanbob 1 year ago
@ryandavidkett you are rut.
