Public and private schools are ridiculously unfair, firstly why on earth should you be able to buy a better education than someone else, i thought Queen Victoria was meant to have dealt with that problem over 100 years ago, secondly, you're not buying a better education, you're buying a class of people that are less likely to take drugs, drink get pregnant etc.

My parents spent a lot on my secondary education, and to be honest I don't think I would be studying where I am right now if they didn't. I am at eton, and while I agree with you that much of the poor state of the education system is to with Etonians, I don't think it's because of where they went to school.

Btw, Eton is not nearly as full of posh toffs as many think. There Are a few but the majority are just clever boys descended from fairly well off middle class parents. I myself grew up in a standard 3 bedroom house in a totally unremarkable part of London

I am old-Etonian of Godolphin house, and I am in Greece now. I am student of Political Science. I know there is huge difference between private and common schools but here in Greece, things are even worse. Rubbish, bad manners, no classrooms, no teachers, no responsibilities.

So someone like me, who comes from a council estate in northern England and goes to Eton on a 110% (yes you read that right) scholarship automatically becomes a toff? Your view is typical of the stereotype. Some are born moneyed, but most boys at Eton are polite, considerate and aware of how privileged they are. Almost a third of boys at Eton are on some sort of financial help, with 25 (and plans for this to go up to 100) educated free invalidates your argument. Eton is open to any clever boy.

yeaaa thats a reasonable point, at the same time though for my A level in psychology we looked at eton an alot of the boys there are completely unprepared for the real world when they leave the safe little bubble that is eton an their parents, but i guess that comes down to parenting more than anything.

It was a case study, they took a batch of 50 boys from eton followed their experiance through the school an caught up with them a year later an interviewed the 50 in depth an the general consensus in my class was they left eton an sort of realised life after eton/university wasn't anything like what they thought it would be. Still a great deal more priviledged than most mind you.

Sorry to break it to you Bob, but you could quite easily have left pretty much any state school with a better grasp at English literature.
