SO, this really annoys me. Cats will walk on leashes, but it takes patience and TRAINING. You have to help your cat in a typically VERY slow process to get comfortable with the leash--not just strangling the thing until it gets so aggitated your own cat tries to bite you. Driving an otherwise affectionate cat to that means that youre a jackass and totally deserved it. Think of your cat next time first...and stop torturing it.

we have a cat harness, but we only use it long roadtrips. by cat pretty much how he acts in my video lol except he can't wiggle out of the harness. he also just kinda lays down do we either have to pick him up or drag him lol

Leash is not for your poorly trained/diciplined cat. Also you need to introduce the leash very gradually and make the process fun and rewarding for her.

We have a Turkish Angora cat and she loves going for walks on the leash. She is deaf so that takes all the fright out of going to the mall and beach. She walks all over Los Angeles and lots of people take pictures of her and laugh about it. She loves the attention. I also had a bad experience with a cat leash. I got the first buckle on the harness on, and that was it. She bolted, ran all over the house and disappeared. It took me a long time to find her. For a minute I thought she was a goner. When I did find her, she was cowering and very unhappy, even after I unbuckled her. Thankfully, she got over it and we're good once again.
I got my cat Monster trained on leash we walk to the mailbox in our townhome complex and even walk to the creek behind our townhome.I started him as a kitten though.

I had the exact same moment where you say "I should have stopped then" when you realize this is not going as planned (though stupid me persevered for another half hour totally freaking out my tabby, Noel). And it went to the back of the closet and Noel remained an indoor cat forever.
You have to get cats used to these things gradually, first let the cat sniff and play with the thing for a while and always be calm when you put it on. Reward with lots of treats. I don't get why you took the leash off as soon as it was on, I would have tried to see if he wanted to go out.
This was like deja vu. I used a cat leash once... oh more then one cat. Only thing worse then that was when I tried to bathe the cat because she was sooooo dirty she could not clean herself. Oh and drying her was funny too. Not safe at all.
there are some places that have cat leash laws. which are good and for their protection. For instance a couple of summers ago a bad storm caused a hole in the eaves of our house, that's what the gutter hangs off of, and we wound up with two litters of kitens in our roof. one of which a couple fell down into our wall and we had to go on a rescue mission. the concept is the same as with a dog it protects your cat from harm as well as protects others from your cat.
I have to say, at my local Chow Hound, they have cats there from the Humane Society up for adoption. They rotate the cats on a schedule of taking them out of their kennels, and putting on a harness and leash, then letting them wander around the store with the leash tied. Every time I go in there whatever cat is on the leash seems totally cool and comfortable with it. They purr and let you pet them and everything.
So, *some* cats at least can wear a harness and leash.
Well, your video was most enjoyable, and you are right, grown cats usually hate the thought of a leash, but it's best to start them off while they're kittens. I had my kitten harnessed when he was about a month and a half old, and he's pretty much used to it. Hell, he even got used to a cone being n his head after getting fixed. xD But yes, I have an older cat who HATES his harness, it's just as funny as your video, and very true, but he wants to be outside, so he's gotta have it on.
I have another cat, Buster, who I put the same leash on when he was still a kitten. He didn't mind it but he would just roll over onto his back whenever I would try to coax him to follow me. Equally has hilarious but no where near as violent.

In my experience cats HATE harnesses but can get used to walking with just a leash a collar pretty easily. But you must make sure the collar is tight enough. Otherwise they can pull out of it if they get spooked. I lost a cat that way.

Start them off while they're young (4-6 months) and you'll have no problems with your cats on a leash.

BTW, it should be a Hybrid cat like a Bengal, Chausie or Savannah cat. They're more intelligent and trainable. I'll have vids of mines up soon.

I have to say, at my local Chow Hound, they have cats there from the Humane Society up for adoption. They rotate the cats on a schedule of taking them out of their kennels, and putting on a harness and leash, then letting them wander around the store with the leash tied. Every time I go in there whatever cat is on the leash seems totally cool and comfortable with it. They purr and let you pet them and everything.
So, *some* cats at least can wear a harness and leash.

Well, your video was most enjoyable, and you are right, grown cats usually hate the thought of a leash, but it's best to start them off while they're kittens. I had my kitten harnessed when he was about a month and a half old, and he's pretty much used to it. Hell, he even got used to a cone being n his head after getting fixed. xD But yes, I have an older cat who HATES his harness, it's just as funny as your video, and very true, but he wants to be outside, so he's gotta have it on.

I have another cat, Buster, who I put the same leash on when he was still a kitten. He didn't mind it but he would just roll over onto his back whenever I would try to coax him to follow me. Equally has hilarious but no where near as violent.

except.. i use my leash on my cat... but i've been using it on her since she was a kitten so she's gotten used to it... you gotta start early...

Great video and commentary. My cat lets me put the harness and leash on very calmly but I agree with you that they are not dogs and want to go their own way.

That is so awesome. I talk to my cats like that too, and I used to have one with that attitude. I showed it to a friend and we laughed so hard our faces hurt. Very well put together, too, with the voice over.

In my experience cats HATE harnesses but can get used to walking with just a leash a collar pretty easily. But you must make sure the collar is tight enough. Otherwise they can pull out of it if they get spooked. I lost a cat that way.

cats are trainable, u just need patience and some skill at it. they are very intelligent, and u have to be careful about the reward. also Elemenoh u should have given him time to get used to the leash
and treats when ever he behaved well. how would u like to be suddenly strapped into a harness and pulled around? especially by someone u consider a servant XD
