  • Beautifull version, Congratulations, bro!

  • muy bien hermano!!!

me gustaria tocar de esa manera

    congratulations.....

  • wow!!!!! i love it!!!! your rubato is great!!!!

  • your huge hands play lots of wonderful tones on the piano :-)

  • I totally agree with elmer5turman. Everything you do is wonderful, thought out, and full of style. But, 1:00 to 1:30 - as well as this video - was so emotionally moving!

You have real talent. Thanks for sharing.

  • Much appreciated, nathanmickle

  • Your choice of color has captured this wonderful piece perfectly.

Thank you for adding such emotion to the continuum.

    Blessings to you,

    Brian T

  • Thanks, Brian

  • Perfect. The sequence from 1:00 to 1:30 is among the most poignant and anguished I've ever heard. You continue to mine - and darken, too - your emotional and intellectual depths.

  • Thank you elmer5. That is a beautiful compliment.

  • you are amazing

  • this is was beautiful. thank you so much for these videos, i've learned a lot from watching, and have gained another model to aspire to in this music, however i do have one question.

i struggle to memorize tunes. the standard numbering system is a real struggle for me, for some reason, i have no trouble recognizing cadences and modulations, i just have trouble filing all the information away and then recalling it on demand when i'm preoccupied with all sorts of other concerns. any advice?

  • Love your approach. I have a question... what's in your right ear?

  • Mark, I'm glad you are posting again. Do more!

I'm using Etymotic in ear monitors to hear what is coming through the microphones. It's just a different way of listening to myself while playing. I play a little bit differently when I do it that way.

  • great voicing, nice changes, good classical smoothjazz interpretation. :)

  • Tom, I thoroughly enjoyed this and have listened to it many, many times now. Thank you for allowing me to be moved, and to have feelings inside of me stirred, by your musical expression. This level of playing is a rare gift; to open yourself and express yourself through music. Your level of confidence exudes in your playing and for myself, as the listener, I come away from the experience enriched and inspired.

  • Thank you, Roger for such a high compliment. You know how much I respect your playing and musicianship. Thanks.

  • First time, I saw you ... ;-) ;-)

    Great as always. Wolf

  • Beautiful changes!!!!

  • Wunderbar!

  • Very introspective and contemplative feeling. This is the kind of interpretation that would make Bill Evans smile in appreciation.

With your elegant interpretation combined with the original song structure - This is a masterpiece.

  • Thanks so much, desertlight.

  • Again 5 stars from a great fan of your playing from Germany. You mention the well known great version by Tristano, I like also the great interpretation by Michel Petrucciani.

  • wow...i can really feel the emotion in your playing, well done!!

  • I like your feeling on the piano (and I like your Steinway too!). Thanks for posting!

  • Another gem Tom!

  • it's beautiful like always, well played

  • I agree with pianistaitaliano, this couldn't be more beautiful. World-class jazz music.

  • Hi, Daniel. You should also check out Alfonso's recording of this song on his pianistaitaliano channel. It's featured on his Love After 10 CD.

And if you haven't heard Tom's "A House is not a Home" here on this channel, it's really special. (And his recent Jobim jam with a friend on congas is to die for!) Cheers, ~Terry

  • Thanks for the suggestions, Terry. I will listen to the clips you refer to. Pianistaitaliano is definitely another favourite pianist of mine.

  • 7:This was just beautiful & once again shows how well suited to infinite exploration the Great American Songbook is. In my humble view that catalog will stand up across the ages like Bach or Beethoven. I haven't really ever commented on the prod. quality of your posts which is equally superb- clean &shot from an angle that supports seeing almost every LH note with very little blocking. As others noted here it shows your left hand 11th reach when pinky & thumb are fully etended. -Klav

  • Fantastically beautiful (my joint favourite with the modal version of I loves you porgy).

Also - those stretches of an 11 in the left hand!!!

  • Thanks celloguy. Part of moving to e-minor was because the reach is a little bit easier.

  • I really enjoyed this -- very deep feeling and passion in your playing, and not many of those weird unmusical jazz chords, but just that great romantic vibe.

Yeah, and the open voicings - that always does it for me: gotta leave space.

  • This is really what I hoped for - around 8 (eight) very professional amateurs on youtube and you are one of them - and you take more and more liberty each month - there is no paper and you are improvising - fantastic - makes it much more from the Heart. -5**********

  • wow amazing feel my friend

    beautiful playing

  • No so much words, just really beautiful work Tom*****

  • it's really beautiful.

  • Great job 7notemode!

Loved watching the technique in your right hand as you improvised with larger intervals!

Also my girlfriend said "That was really nice!"

  • Wow, nicely done. I usually hear this one uptempo. Love it far more this way.

  • thanks for inspiring me :) i love playing piano too

  • loved it!

you catch an emotional atmosphere, stay to it and let the ideas come because of it.

that's the way i like it.

e-minor: a bit ligther than f minor, but even more initmate-'sad' - in my opinion.

is there some low frequency traffic noise two times 0:37?

i looked out my window on the street....... :-)

  • Thanks, stocksam. Moving to e-minor opened up some different harmonic options. When I play it in F minor, I tend to use a more traditional jazz style.
