  • Who's to say he didn't 'absorb' all the regenerations of all the other time lords? He could very well have 507. If so, though, I'd take a lot ore chances.

  • 507 wrong steve moffat your a liar ! he has 14 lifes in total ! doctor who moive 1999 !

  • they say that in galifrey you could be rewarded bonus regenerations for doing something good and they could be taken away as punishment so its possible that durring the time war the doctors lives may have been increased

  • @SpecialAgentRavage Yes I always see Pertwee smiling through Matt Smith here, the likeness is uncanny at that moment (1:03)

This episode makes my cry so hard, esp since Lis passed on. It makes me feel sad. What's good about sad I year you ask? "It's happy for deep people!"

  • 1:08 you know your cool wen you can crawl backwards

  • She said Barbara and Ian Chesterton ? So, they get married

  • @MJJBeliever Thats the general consensus yeah :D x

  • When the Doctor dies the whole Universe does shiver - Turn Left

When the Doctor should die but doesn't the Universe also shivers - The Wedding of River Song

    It's not easy being him.

  • REMEMBER 1. The Doctor lies he said he can regenerate 507 times but In a old episode the doctor said he can only regenerate 13 times.

  • @JBCMGaming 5+0+7=12 CLose enough?

  • Comment removed

  • you do know RTD wrote this episode!

  • im not sure if its clarified but i think the doctor is doctor who i didnt watch all of either sarah jane and doctor who but in the eve episode way back he came out of a police box

  • Trouble with the timelords... o_o the doctor hasn't told them yet.

  • @BassGosple the awkward moment when old companions make references to his people without knowing he's the last of his kind...

  • @MidnightStar665 ^ THIS

  • About him saying he can regenerate 507 times

Rule 1 : The Doctor lies

  • Comment removed

  • Love how he just tosses out "507." Also, hooray for the return of Ten's theme! Although Eleven's theme is definitely my favorite. So perfect for the Doctor in general.

  • Where can I find the soundtrack to the first part?

  • Comment removed

  • He really couldn't have revisited every single one. Leela was on Gallifrey when she left the Dotctor...sorry to bum you out

  • WOAH revelation. So aparently, he visited everyoooone.

  • Finally!! Exposition on what happened to Ace :D

Though still doesn't explain why she left.

  • 507 ..might be a joke , but then again...Rasalon discoved how to regenarete forever.

  • "If that day ever comes, I think the whole universe might just shiver." I love that line. Not exactly modest, but probably true. "A cosmos without the Doctor scarcely bares thinking about", as the Master would say.

  • I love knowing that Ian and Barbra are still alive :) (first doctor)

  • thanks for posting! RIP Liz Sladen! u were one of the greats!!!

  • also think about it if your fightinh a war all rules are off, so the timelords would have gotten rid of the 13 regeneration limit inorder to fight the time war think about it it would be stupid if they had to abide by the 13 regeneration limit while fighting , so they would get rid of it coz they want to win the war, so the doctor has no more regeneration limits

  • But it is said that the particles in a Time lords body that set the numbers for the regenerations. But when all the time lords died he could have had a way to take all there last particles and use them him self. Thus giving him 507 regenerations.

  • Seeing that my comment above with 18 thumbs (just pointing it out) is A JOKE why do people reply saying I'm wrong? I'll type this in caps so you understand ITS A JOKE CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT DO I SOUND LIKE A ACTUALLY GIVE A SHIT ON HOW MANY TIMES HE CAN CHANGE jesus...

  • i have a theory (shocker). all tim lords have a set number of regenerations- 12, so 13 faces total. but there are a few things to subtract from or add to his lives. 1.) river used up her remaining lives on him. were they all gone to bringing him back to lifre? or did some get transfered to him, extending his count? 2.) if you count (before what i just said happened) all the times he has 1/2 regenerated and/or "died" but never changed faces , would that count as a life? i think it would.

  • ian and barbara?! i've only seen like 3 episodes with them, but they never age?! what's that about?!

  • @jayzner97 the TARDIS is a time machine..when they went home...they went home in their own future.... past the time when the Doctor took them in "An Unearthly Child" ..see the episode called "The Chase" for your answers

  • @Pattonfrodo yeah, i've seen the clip where they go home. they come back in 1965, but this is supposed to be in 2010. this basically says they haven't aged in 45 years. did the doctor make them immortal or something?

  • @jayzner97 maybe I did not catch all of what Sara was saying..I took it to mean they missed a few years because of the time difference as to when they left to when they came back..so time would pass with out them they stay the same in the "missing years" while the other people get older..then once Ian and Barbra got home they began to age like the rest of us. if you catch what I mean?

  • @Pattonfrodo yeah, i see what u mean. actually, they should do an episode of doctor who where the doctor confronts them to figure out why they look the same as they did when he met them in that junkyard all those years ago. they'd have to find new actors, obviously, but i think it'd be a cool story

  • i wonder if the dyslexic kid he mentions is the kid from the

    silurian episode

  • If I'm not mistaken, isn't it old whovian lore that the 13th Doctor will be a villain?

  • @Elimtain Yes, there is a potential 13th Doctor called the Valeyard who is so utterly evil that he's even worse than the Master. However, this is only one possible future. It might happen, but it might not. The Doctor knows this could happen to him and therefore has a chance to prevent it.

  • @Calriec One more thing, the Dream Lord from Amy's Choice is basically the part of the Doctor who could one day become the Valeyard.

  • Yes it was said in the old series that the doctor can only regenerate 12 times, thus there can only be 2 more possible doctors. However, I'm pretty sure that if needed, they'll find a way around it.

How the hell did I get involved in this pointless argument???

  • It was said in the old series that Time Lords can only regenerate 12 times, a new writer can't just change something like that........it's set in stone. (Gets off soap box) Thank you :D

  • @Aeryn22 the doctor lies

  • @Aeryn22 Except for all the plotlines in the old series that depended on Time Lords getting a new set of regenerations. Hell, the Time Lords proved that they could just hand out new regenerations when they felt like it in The Five Doctors.

  • @BitVyper But yeah, obviously he was bullshitting here. Although I'm sure he'll get as many regenerations as the writers want him to have.

  • ooh foreshadowing for the impossible astronaught maybe. I love that the original 2 companions are still alive

  • @227060 elisabeth sladen who played sarah jane died in april of last year

  • @AliJako ...kind of a bummer dude. i know but seriously....whats that gotta do with my other comment?

  • @227060 Though sadly... unless BBC finds two actors that look exactly like they did thirty years ago there is no chance of them returning :'( but then again BBC doesn't do that. When the actor/tress dies or can't possibly be in the show anymore the same goes for the characters. Permanently.

  • @Dartpaw86 again....what has this gotta do with my earlier comment??? im not having a go im just confused. I said foreshadowing for the impossibvle astronaught as in foreshadowing about the doctor's 'death'

  • @227060 You"also" brought up Barbara and Ian which I was giving my personal comments on. My reply had nothing to do with the impossible astronaut.

  • @Dartpaw86 ah i see. I meant within the canon of the 'present' the characters of Ian and barbara are alive. Barbara isn't in real life sadly

  • @227060 sarah jane smith died a while ago

  • @dopilus sigh. yes. I know. It is exceedingly heartbreaking but...I wasn't talking about her dying

  • even if he can regenerate 507 i sure he regenerate before the original first...

  • make me upset though

  • 5+7=12

Stephen Moffat said it was a lie

  • there should be a black dr who

  • @bigtoken90

Funny enough, we almost had one. Paterson Joseph (played The Marquis in Neverwhere) was a top contender before Matt Smith was chosen.

  • sound like tim burton

  • I do so miss Elizabeth Sladen. It's so wonderful she got to meet and act along side Matt Smith as the 11th doctor and go on-set of the new TARDIS.

'...The universe has to move forward. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Whether it's a world, or a relationship... everything has its time. And everything ends.'

  • Holy crap! Was I the only one who got on the edge of their seat when I heard that Ian and Barbara were still alive?!

  • @taa347 You're not the only one. I thought they'd be dead by now. Better check on Doctor Who Wiki. I wonder how the heck they got into that made them not age.

  • @taa347 me too buddy. also they got maried. i miss susan, they need ton bring her back

  • @13doctorwho I hope Susan and Romana where not killed in the time war..they need to address them and The Rani as well..with River...the Doctor.(and IF)..Susan and Roman are still alive..(and maybe the Master??) who knows maybe the Timelord race could be reborn ? or a little of it anyway.

  • @Pattonfrodo The Time Lords arent in the show for a reason...there not effective dramaticly. Read "The Writers Tale", RTD didnt orignally want to bring them back, and when he had no choice, he didnt know how to write for them. Moffat likewise hates The Time Lords, which is understandable. I think we should all move on from the Time Lords, what do they offer other than characters with silly names?

  • @ZipZagginGallifrey — one day, a future producer probably will bring the Time Lords back into Doctor Who. If I were that producer, I'd change the concept: a whole new corps of Time Lords, founded by some Gallifreyan survivors of the War, like the Lensman or the Green Lanterns and recruiting new Time Lords from members of the various races of the galaxy. They would be an organisation rather than a race.

  • @Pattonfrodo Romana was in E-Space, not the Time War.. different universe.

  • @JaytheOstrich yes I know that but It was my understanding that they ALL died in the time war...which I would assume she is still there where we left her in E space (Warriors' Gate) or...they(the time lords) went and got her...I would think this would be a great plot device to bring her back..being it's not Impossible to go get her or for her to come back..just hard to do.

  • Will miss Elizabeth Sladen / Sarah Jane. RIP.

  • new facts very true

  • A Charitable Earth = A.C.E

  • it would be interesting if sarah jane regenerated and they kept the show goning on. would be nice memorial to the actress who originated the role

  • 507? WTF?

  • whoa! the doctor said he can change 507 times!

  • This is probably what's gonna happen. Sonic Screwdriver function # 648b: Give The Doctor more regens.

  • Hooray for Ian and Barbara! I loved Barbara ever since she mowed down those daleks in The Dalek Invasion of Earth!

  • little too much cheese at the end xD but its true.

  • only ace episode i ever saw was the dalek one, was her name dorothy?

  • @System509 yes, ace was her nickname

  • @System509 Yes. Dorothy McShane although her surname is never really mentioned. In The Curse of Fenric her true name is mentioned quite a lot as it involves her mother and her birth.

  • rule number 1. the doctor lies.

  • I love Matt Smith as The Doctor

  • hm...he can only regenerate 507 times...

    1000s of years later....

    508th Doctor...

MY GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDAD SAID THERE COULD ONLY BE 507...

  • @SoulCaliburSnake Rule one. the doctor lies

  • @SoulCaliburSnake some where i read that a time lord could only regenerate 12 time?

  • Comment removed

  • @BowTiesAreCool22 Yeah, he has 13 lives. So...yeah, 12 regenerations.

  • @BowTiesAreCool22 Only due to the laws of the Time Lords.Otherwise they can regenerate the full 507 times.

  • @SoulCaliburSnake Rule #1: The Doctor Lies

  • @SoulCaliburSnake he can only regenerate 12 times, making it 13 incarnations possible.

  • @SoulCaliburSnake No you. 507 times. 5 + 0 + 7 = 12. He was just beeing extremly clever, as usual.

  • @SoulCaliburSnake

Your great great great great great great great great great grandad lies.

  • He will have a hell of a lot more than 12 regenerations. BBC makes too much money off him, they'll find a way to to keep it going.

  • Epic use of Brick Joke - They finally told us what happened to Ace. and, of course, that Ian and Barbara DID get together. After almost 50 years, they tell us! XD (Tough it was pretty obvious that they would)

  • "Ian and Barbara Chesterton" Love that reference - gives me goose-bumps every time!

  • 507? no its 13

  • @1andrewman1 Remember "Rule number 1"

  • @1andrewman1 Don't forget Rule 1: The Doctor Lies.

  • @1andrewman1 12 (meaning that we're going to have 13 Doctors in total) is firmly established and was a plot point several times in the old series - It's just Eleven trying to impress a kid like he always does, uh, well, actually, every time he comes across a kid. Remember the episode 42, were we hear that he's fond of "recreational mathematics"? 5+0+7= 12.

  • @KendrixTermina actually he got another 11, river song gave him her ones so we will be seeing alot more doctor who

  • @1andrewman1 It was never stated anywhere in the episode or the confidential that she "gave" him hers for him to use, just that she "used them up" to save him. So while it is a possibility they might whip out of the closet when the time comes, it is, for now, nothing but a theory that you shouldn't quote like it's a fact.

  • Comment removed

  • @KendrixTermina

just to pop in here for a moment, sorry 'bout that, but I just realized something.

A Time Lord can regenerate 13 times, right? which makes 14 lives.

River has already used 3 lives for herself, which l means she gave 11 lives to the Doctor.

So River gave him all his lives back.

(Who knows, If she had only given him one, he might have reverted back into William Hartnell XD)

Or maybe that's just more symbolism from Moffat's side.

It's interesting to think about anyway.

  • @CatniponDiscworld Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's 12 regenerations and thus 13 lives.

  • @KendrixTermina

Ah, well my bad. Always get those mixed up.

    Would've been very neat though.

  • @CatniponDiscworld Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's 12 regenerations and thus 13 lives.

  • @KendrixTermina That was put out there, but it's a safe bet that they'll find a way to disregard this limit if the ratings are still decent. Back to the 80s at least the possibility of Time Lords being given a new set of regenerations has been canonical. The Master got some for the Time War, The Doctor could have as well. Recent events with Eleven may have given him some.

That assumes the number holds at all.

  • @ctraver Still, iI hope they don't... just ignore the limit and it's existence. They can, and probably will circumvent it via plot device but they can't just act like it never existed...

  • @KendrixTermina I want to see something like "13 is the average. I happen to be in better shape than most Time Lords were, so I can do it a few more times. I'm not sure exactly how many more...". It's a plausible mechanism, and once he hits life 13 it would add a lot of exciting uncertainty.

  • I always saw it as a self-imposed limit of the Time Lords; if they all had unlimited regens then they would one day have a population problem. Now, they don't really figure into it. Also, River Song gave up hers to save the Doctor, so he should now have more than normal; right? Bottom line: if the show is doing well and making money the writers will find or create a loophole for him to slip through.

  • @KendrixTermina Realistically, though, I doubt that in 7 years or so, they'll just say, "Ok, we've used up the regenerations. Time to end the series." They'll find a way to extend his life. The question is how. Back in the 80s, I had friend who thought they'd give him unlimited regenerations because of his time as president. My hope is that for the 50th anniversary, he'll temporarily regenerate into Tom Baker and reset the clock back to 4.

  • @BlackMonk66 If thas only was possible XD They'll probably circumvent it somehow (then again, it would be nice if the show had a definite ending somehow, rather rhan being cancelled and left open ended some say) but it's too early to assume it already happened.

  • @KendrixTermina At this point, it's a question of copyright, but I see the Doctor eventually becoming a public domain character like Sherlock Holmes with new derivative works using him constantly being created. Then again, with characters being owned by corporations and not authors, the time before a character goes into public domain is going to keep getting longer.

  • The acting from Matt, Lis, and Katy was simply amazing. In real life, Matt's young enough to be either Lis or Katy's son, yet their interactions suggest the opposite.

  • WHEN, IN DOCTOR WHO TIME, DID THIS HAPPEN? I MEAN, BEFORE WHAT OR AFTER RIVER SONG AND DEMON'S RUN? PLEASE

  • @Petsister This happened between Series 5 & Series 6, after The Big Bang but before the Christmas Special so way before Demon's Run.

  • @muimi07 thank you!!!!!!

  • @Petsister I beleive it was shortly after the events in 'The Big Bang' and before 'A Christmas Carol'. During this episode of SJA The Doctor tells Jo about Amy and Rory and how they are on honeymoon.

So, these events transpired before Amy and Rory saw The Doctor killed by The Impossible Astronaut.

  • @woodgatejack thank you!!!

  • Im not racist or sexsist but the doctor should stay as a white male he's been that for nearly 50 years changing it suddenly would make fans who have watched it for years and some people now would be upset because they've seen that as what the doctor is, a white male also I don't like the idea of a timelord changing sex its like you or me suddenly changing sex and we'd be woundering how everything works and how the sudden change in personality would effect you or me and towards others.

  • @MrHowdareyou His hair color changes, his eye color changes, his height changes, his age goes up and down, so why should his skin color have to stay the same? And even if he did change sex, I doubt the change in personality could be any more drastic than the change from five to six.

  • @BlackMonk66 I guess its just personal opinion :/

  • @MrHowdareyou I'd guess for the 95% of the audience that isn't racist or sexist, it would be just like any other regeneration; It'll seem strange at first because it's someone different from the Doctor they're used to, but eventually the new Doctor will grow on them. After half a season, it won't matter to you at all.

I just remembered that it was established that Time Lords can change skin color back in the original series. When Romana is trying new bodies, one of them isn't white.

  • thumbs up if you googled TARDIS after this video

  • A better question to ask is, "Why does the translator always give you a British accent?"

  • I'm not racist before you even think about saying it, but am I the only one who can't really picture a black doctor?

  • @Denarpsaurus You can't imagine a black dr because there hasnt been one... yet. If there had been 11 black dr's it would be difficult to imagine a white dr.

  • @Denarpsaurus you know, i am really not a racist or sexsist either. Its just some people say the next Doctor could be a african or a japanese incarnation. some did even think he was going to be a woman due River Song. its just that you cant make long running tv character such as the Doctor suddenly change in a black man.(thats not ment offfensively) when he's been white for almost 50 years, neither can you change him from a man to woman. It would feel wrong to so many people.

  • @LifterC3 I know what you mean, I mean without being racist, but this might get taken that way, the Doctor is a White Male. I mean, if the Doctor turned black, I would still watch it, but think of the thousands of people who are openely racist; Doctor Who would loss thousands of fans. And, its the same if hes a woman. I mean, back in the classical series, they would never have dreamt of that, but it todays modern world, we can only beg them not to, but you never know,

  • i want a black doctor

  • Jo Grant was so hot in the 70's. She still looks nice but she didn't age as well as Sarah Jane..

  • #2 was a joke.

  • Did he just say that he can regenerat 507 TIMES!!!!????

  • @TheMrOkamiden It's a joke.

  • @TheMrOkamiden He was lying; he was blowing off Clyde, and 5 +0 +7 = 12 which is all 13 bodies. See? It's a subtle thing by Russel T. Davies.

  • @Jamestopboy OOKKKAAAAYYYYY.Atleast RTD did something good.

  • @TheMrOkamiden It was a joke. I imagine he was gettin annoyed of all the questions.

  • I like the vulnerability Matt Smith brings to the role - remeniscient of Peter Davison, actually, whom is my favorite of the pre-Eccleston Doctors for that very reason. I liked Eccleston when he could be serious - "Dalek", "Father's Day" - and Tennant when he was exploring his psyche - "Waters of Mars", etc. My only complaint on the Smith series - it doesn't need to be literally "dark" to be dark, you know? Pay the electric bill already.

  • the doctor could do the same thing the master did and get a whole new lifespan

  • Comment removed

  • "I'd probably get you in trouble with the time lords".....awwww.....unintentional low blow :(

  • @RockyMountainBaby she doesn't know what happened to the time lords

  • Hmmm....she didn't mention Jamie or Victoria. She was left with a family in the 60s and Jamie, well, he would be dead, but how and when? Did he survive Culloden?

  • @spikelilgirl Yes-Vicki however-I believe either died or was on another planet. Jamie and Zoey, however, the Time Lords had taken the 2nd Doctor and them because of a Law the Doctor broke-and both of them were sent back to their times and places with all but their first meeting of the Doctor erased from their memories.

  • @numutabin Vicki and Victoria were two different people. Vicki was with the First Doctor, Victoria with the Second. Unfortunately, almost everything Victoria was in is missing.

  • @spikelilgirl She only mentioned with ones who she could find by googling "doctor's former companions" or something like that. Jaime wouldn't have turned up that way, having died centuries before the internet, though Victoria might have. (Maybe Sarah felt guilty about taking her dress) Harry was the only companion she mentioned who wasn't still alive (though some of the actors who played them aren't), and she knew him, so she'd have been able to look him up by name.

  • @BlackMonk66 Yeah, those are all the ones who ended up anywhere near to what is present day for Sarah.

  • 5+0+7 = 12

    507times 12 times?

  • A throwaway remark in a SPIN-OFF series cannot wipe out the following stories

    THE DEADLY ASSASSIN

    MAWDRYN UNDEAD

    THE FIVE DOCTORS

    TRIAL OF A TIME LORD

All of which not only mentioned the 12 regenerations but their plots were BASED around it (the whole of "Trial" was so that The Valeyard could get the Doctor's remaining regenerations).

  • *sniffle, wipes a tear* Goddamnit. That first bit...it...dust. Just dust in my eye, I swear. Bad timing to watch that.

  • I wonder if they would know?

  • @TheMyrrdhin Vague, yeah. Just - season six. The beginning, to be precise.

  • the part about the dr having 500 regenerations is true I reckon

  • @retrocomputerkidkris i think its true as well but it kind of complicates the masters story about him using all of his 13 lives.

  • @retrocomputerkidkris I highly doubt it. I think its a joke because on the original series they said Time Lord could regenerate 12 times. 507: 5 + 0 + 7= 12. Russel T. Davies was just having some fun at the fans' expense.

  • @Calriec i strongly dissagree with what you said sorry. it extends the series another few years

  • @retrocomputerkidkris According to Russell T. Davies, it was just a joke. They'll probably need to find some way to extend the series after whoever plays 13 leaves, but there are plenty of possible ways to do that.

  • @BlackMonk66 The Time Lords could return again, maybe some good ones. The 13th Doctor could die, and they might resurrect him and give him a new set of regenerations. But, if that was to happen, I would hope they would still end the series with The Doctor just flying off in the TARDIS to new worlds & unexplored terrain, observing maybe interfering & let everyone live in the memory that, that is what The Doctor does. I wud love Doctor Who 2 continue on forever but everything has 2 end

  • @kingofireland91 I don't know. Doctor Who has been going for almost 50 years now. It might outlive all of us. I see him more like Superman or Batman, where his story keeps going on. If the character ever passes into the public domain, I see him becoming like Sherlock Holmes with an endless stream of derivative works.

  • Wow, I love how this episodes reminisces about previous companions. Especially the first ever companions Ian and Barbara. Excellent! (:

If they really haven't aged at all...maybe we'll see them soon in Doctor Who. :D

  • I miss Sarah Jane - Elisabeth seemed intelligent, mature and kind. Unlike Matt who just reminds me of an Ice Cream truck driver.

  • rip elizabeth sladen sorry it had to be sad

  • "With friends like us, the Doctor's never going to die."

BAM! Killed by a seven-year-old astronaut in 1969.
