This shows how brilliant this film is. Just about half an hour before this a huge battle with hundreds of thousands was on screen. Now it's gone right down to just the two of them on a ledge. Fantastic.
In this movie, there's like 5 times that the screen fades out...and you think it's the end of the movie and you're like wow that was AMAZ- Oh! It's still not over! *Another hour worth of Epicness*
@Oyabungaijin Also, the Eagle that rescued Gandalf from Saruman only did so because Gandalf had previously saved his life. In addition to this, sending Frodo on the back of an eagle into Mount Doom would be like effectively air-mailing the ring to Sauron. A ground-based approach was decided to be much more effective. Finally, the ring corrupts the proud much more easily than the humble. All in all, Eagles were too damn risky.. So STFU!
@Oyabungaijin The book is more elaborate on this point and Peter Jackson even explains the reason in his commentary on the dvd. Eagles didn't take sides in the War of the Ring until the end so they would NOT have assisted Frodo when he started his quest-- similar to the Ents, who only participated when they felt they were drawn in by Saruman. Also, Eagles are proud creatures who will not allow themselves to be used as just a means of transportation.
@Oyabungaijin So you say, yet if Gandalf flew Frodo and Sam then Gandalf would not have been there to help Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli in the battles. Plus This was Frodo's task, not Gandalf's. Also, If they had flown, than the Nazgul would have got them. Keep making up excuses about this movie and I will give you a reson why they could not have done what you say.

The eagles couldnt have carried such a burden. So sauron would have called out those dragons and attack gandalf and the others

The most epic scene in BULLSHIT. Gandolf could have flown Frodo Via Eagle and prevented all this shit. Fuck the Rings
