Actually, cargo shipments on the canal have increased. One load can be shipped 514 miles with one gallon of diesel fuel. In 2008 42 loads were ship via the canal and it is expected to continue to increase as the price of fuel remains high.
Well its a barge used in dredging operations, I think they drop the muck into it... They spend a good part of summer in the area where the Erie and the Genesee River meet.
yeah, that musta been great!..i worked on a couple of tugs on the Canadian Great lakes...that was best job ever!!...couldnt believe i was actually getting paid to do it...
the erie canal where I live in syracuse,ny is so narrow and shallow. I dont see how boats ever fit on that even when it was good
