I dont remember being able to to that orange rocket thing with the character. How do you do that? And also I've only been able to make it up to the fifth boss. And with no deaths if I recall. Buts its been about 8 years since I touched this game. Why not try playing this game again? Its been a pretty long time.
@marioshrooming Being able to inflict damage while gravity shifting (the "orange rocket" thing) is a particular powerup -- either the A or the G, definitely. I just don't remember which one is which.
@ripelivejam Yeah, I was thinking "How did they do that...The NES can't do parallax scrolling like that!" when I first played this game. Then I realized they used a clever programming trick in which the image in each background block is shifted 1 pixel to the right each time the background scrolls 2 pixels to the left (and vice-versa) to fake parallax scrolling.
You seem to be implying that the game plays completely differently on a cart than on an emulator.
Excuse me while I laugh at this ridiculous suggestion.
AHAHAHAHAHA!
Even assuming that it IS true that spikes are much worse on a cart, which makes no sense and is extremely unlikely, it still means nesrobot was NOT cheating like you originally claimed. Instead he just played a version of the game where spikes aren't insta-death.
fifth boss is trhe farthest i have ever gotten. I haven't played this game in a few years either. But I am sure that I can do the first three levels faster and better this this.
THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE GAME!!! Just a quick tip, on the first boss you can stand just left or right on the bottom of the middle and be safe from harm attacking the boss.
Hell yes. I haven't ever finished this game. You are right that the latter 3 levels are MUCH more difficult. When I took a chance and rented this game when I was like 13 I discovered a real gem.
well, the last game that i played from them, which was a demo btw, was R-Type Final and it kicked ass. thats practically the last good game irem made in my opinion, and the one that got the most attention. it still exists though

Dude in order to post shit like "No Death Run" YOU BETTER BE DOING IT ONT EH HARDEST DIFFICULTY. Normal? You gotta be joking me. I posted a vid of 3-2 on expert. Look at that. Thats not even that hard! Wait for stage 4 and beyond. It takes HOURS to finish minutes of gameplay at that difficulty...
I thought I did fine :P Not as impressive as some NES videos, but, hell, its not like there are tons for Metal Storm, I just wanted to showcase a game I really enjoy.
"I just wanted to showcase a game I really enjoy."
WELL YOU DID BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD!!!! lol. I'm fucking around with you. This game rules and I just pulled "Strider" out of my NES to throw in this gem.
Also I totally agree with the overlooking thing. I really wish this game was more well known. I'm only 15, But I got this game at a gerage sell and I loved it.
VVVVV ripped this.

@marioshrooming Went and double-checked; apparently the Gravity Fireball is from the G powerup. A is for Armor.

I noticed that you hit the spikes in level 3 & didn't die. What's up with that? Are you using a Game Genie?

Around 2:16 it sounds like it's playing "Yeah!" by Usher...

died at 5:40, cheated. Not even the A power up saves you from spikes, you either glitched or cheated.

@xatyt
I just got through playing this game a few minutes ago.
Spikes are not instant death in this game, the power-up DOES save you.
That or I ran into the same "glitch" twice, myself.

@321cheeseman Emulator or actual game? I played the actual game and it killer me instantly.

This game should be REMADE. It would be presentable on the Wii but on 360 it would kick fuckin ass.
