  • ball has been served? ITS NO FUCKIN TENNIS YA DIRTY YANK

  • @AlloaHombre He means served as in render a service. A player "serves" his team mate a pass. It is a kind of figure of speech if you will.

  • Direct kick..?

  • You cant blame this guy for leaving alot out, the video is less than 2 minutes. We spend hours at USSF clinics talking about the offside law. That just gets you started. You need years of field training and regular assesment to become proficient.

  • The restart is an indirect free kick following an offisides call, not "direct free kick" as stated in the video.

  • not bad

  • i cant even listen to this guy b/c of his tragic accent

  • Offside is in no way homosexual. It is only believed to be "homosexual" in nature because it is so difficult for any human being to call due to the pace of play. It's a lot easier when you can hear the touch of the ball, trust me.

Offside adds lots of strategy to the game; how the defense should align, and how attackers should position themselves to sneak through the defense and get into goal-scoring opportunities.

Not to mention it stops cherry-picking.

  • Hmmmm he didn't mention many things.

One of which if the player is of sides but does not interfere with any player.

    Should be longer.

  • In Hockey, it's a breakaway.

    In Soccer, it's offsides.

Another reason why Hockey > Soccer

  • @reivenlocke Football cant be compared to any sport. Its not even a sport. Its something indefinable.

  • Didn't mention theres no offsides during corners and few other details, the offside rule is surprisingly in-depth.

  • There is no offside rule in any other form of football (beach, 7s, futsal, indoor etc) and it is very rare to see a team keep a player back to try and get easy goals. Indoor soccer has a different rule to prevent the goalie from passing the ball the length of the field and it works very well. FIFA should try some games without offside, since RAs fuck it up it every game somehow, and see what happens. I guarantee a more exciting game. Players would have to play defense ALL the time.

  • U forgot some important details m8

  • Honest question here: What would be your reaction if they changed the offside rule to make it like hockey (ice hockey) where being ahead of a certain line before the ball makes you offside?

  • @Eskimo50 i think it could work. would certainly make room for more goals and more offensive play.

  • @Eskimo50 There is.. its called the Halfway line :P

  • The term is "OFFSIDE" !

  • It's not plural, folks. It's OFFSIDE. No 's' on the end. There is only one side you can be off of.

And as another person mentioned, the result of an offside call is an indirect free kick, not a direct free kick as indicated in this video. Direct free kicks result from personal fouls like a trip or a push. Fouls not personal in nature, like offside and a GK picking up a backpass, are indirect free kicks.

  • i still dont get the offside rule lol

  • INDIRECT free kick ,,, if this is going to be useful, please change it!

  • gayest rule in sports history

  • Ughh! Im confused lol

  • so coach, after you score a goal, why even go down to the other side of the field with your players? it appears then any goal scored then would be offside.????

  • how is this rule gay? i don't see anything homosexual about it.

please, let's not connote the word 'gay' as a synonym for bad or ridiculous

  • @ppoppollll I agree the rule is not gay. But it can be gay if you get called for it.

  • @ppoppollll it's not the rule that's gay, the whole damn concept of soccer is gay. soccer, balls, guys in tiny shorts, playing footsie with each other, try to get as many balls into a box using your feet, legs or chest and head mmm idk but that's pretty fucking homoerotic

  • @darksider7140 as opposed to wearing skintight pants and bending down so a large man can put his hands up under your crotch to grab a ball?

  • @ppoppollll in which case, let's not connote the word 'gay,' which means brightly colourful or lighthearted, as a synonym for homosexual.

  • MY BRAIN IS HURTING!!!!

  • best rule in sport.

  • This rule is completely gay.

  • @ShadeDracos I totally agree.....Gay gay gay gay GAY!!!

  • This is the dumbest rule ever. An attacker has to WAIT for a defender to get even or between the ball and the net before trying to score? Here's a crazy idea - how about we say it's the defenders' responsibility to be in the right position, and if you snooze you lose? I've seen two great goals negated in the current World's Cup because of this ridiculous rule...get rid of it.

  • have there ever been any proposals to change the offsides sizes rules? for instance- that allow the offensive player to be "offsides" by an arm length, or a meter, or 3 feet? it justs seems ridiculous to have an offsides call negate a great pass or scoring opportunity because the offensive player is able to beat the defender by the width of the body

  • "Boring" is a relative term. Baseball is boring for those who don't like it, it could take forever to end, in fact, one ever knows when it will end. At least football* has a deadline. But if you're a football* fan, you could enjoy an exciting (suspenseful) game, even if there is no score. Of course you will never understand this if you are NOT a fan.

    *Soccer

  • soccer needs to open things up so we can have some more SCORING in this boring sport.

i just watched cristiano ronaldo and portugal play the ivory coast. ronaldo is the best player in the world.

    final score: NOTHING to NOTHING.

if u were sleeping, u didn't miss ANYTHING. no goals.

SOCCER: loosen up the offside rule and let more scoring happen.

  • it is very good

  • Dr. Masur, you are all mixed up on you attempt to explain the offside law. Firstly, the law is OFFSIDE. It does not end with an "S".

Secondly, when an offside call is made, play does not restart with a direct free kick; rather an indirect free kick.

  • @AntiVaccine fuck off no one cares about your little bullshit conspiricy

  • this guy makes me want to rip my ears off, what a horrific accent

  • INDIRECT free kick for offside, not direct...

  • @danstuart747 in his defense, he does say a "direct kick" not "direct free kick" and he is also american so he is using words that are from american football ie turnover

  • useless guide americans doesn't know shit about football

  • i dont believe this !

  • he messes up at around 1:38

its an indirect kick not direct kick

  • not if its in your own half

  • nerd...

  • Theres nothing in the laws of the game either that say a players cannot be offside if the ball is played backwards! So common the popular belief, if a player is in an offside position, the ball is played backwards, the offside player then runs into an onside position and collects the ball, he SHOULD be called offside. Ive NEVER seen this happen though so wouldnt worry too much about it!

  • This has actually happened to me as an assistant referee. The player, at the edge of the penalty area line and the goal line, crossed the ball back to the top of the penalty area, where an offside player selfishly played it.

  • @rdarfi

If a player in an offside position receives a backwards pass from an attacker (i.e. an attacker passes the ball in the opposite direction to the opposing net) then they are not offside.

If you a re offside, and the ball is played forward, and you run into an onside position to collect it, then you're still offside.

  • @DemonicCathode Please could you show me where this is stated in the Laws Of The Game? In Law 11 of the LOTG there is NOTHING which states you cannot be offside if the ball is played backwards.

  • your an idiot

  • Comment removed

  • At 1:37 he says that an offsides call is a direct kick for the opposing time. It's actually an indirect kick.

  • Essam El-Hadary, the goalie (Ahly-Egypt) scored from an indirect kick when the ball hit the post and it bounced off the other goalie.

  • It's an indirect free kick that is awarded to the opposing team. This means that a goal cannot be scored unless a player, other than the kicker, touches the ball after the free kick.

  • at 1.09 he say that the 2 defenders you see, were the last 2, Look at the time and straight above you see a head from a defender !

  • i see the yanks have started to learn the offside rule i see mhaha

  • Zimkowy wrocisz do domu to cie wyjebe w kakao, acha nie zapominj wazeliny ( TATUS )

  • Zimkowy ciota ;/

  • Ta, ciota ;/

  • this is the stupidest thing i have ever seen. IT IS AN IN-DIRECT FREE KICK OFF AN OFFSIDE, NOT DIRECT

  • I find it hilarious how Americans need a 2 minute long video to explain a simple fundamental rule of the worlds most popular sport.

  • ha yeah we're pretty ignorant

  • I know but you have to know that people here do not know anything about soccer. Nothing at all. However, they love it and they want to share the world the joy of soccer.

  • It is not as easy as u might think for us Americans with hockey, American football, and soccer all with different offside rules.

    2.say a name of someone u hate.

    Laxgoalie6465

3.that person will ask u out or say they love u tomarrow. fuck no

    4. heres the thing .... shoot

    Laxgoalie6465 on sight

  • not a bad video to explain it. But one thing wrong. An Indirect Free Kick is given for an offside offence, not a direct free kick.

  • you could still score from a offside...so it's direct...

  • No you cant. Its an indirect free kick. Thats why referees always raise thier hand when a free kick from an offside offence is being taken. If the ball goes into the oponents net without touching another play from the kick, a goal kick will be awarded.

  • you know what indirect means?!?!?! cuz you're confusing me...

  • Excuse me but I myself am a referee. An indirect free kick means that a second player must touch the ball before going into the net. And an indirect free kick is given for an offside offence. Just like its given for raising your foot too high. Go look up the laws of the game. Might give you more of an understanding.

  • k i got it now...ty..sorry for the mistake. i apologize.

  • np mate.

  • Of course offside is not called if a player is not interested in the ball, and is not active in the game. By showing the ref that he's not active in the game, the game goes on.

  • Why do they say it like its plural?

  • Agreed- it is offside(no s)

  • I still dont understand

    =|

  • Its called "Football" - Not Soccer.

  • how many times im gonna say it futbol not football futbol F...U...T...B...O...L

  • fathead... not futhead, fathead

  • Comment removed

  • and if you get past the defenders and want to pass the ball doesnt the person you pass it too have to be behind the ball or something like that?

  • Um, at 1:37, disregard the statement where Dr. Masur says "a direct kick." An offside offense is always an indirect kick.

  • wats the difrence

  • direct kick you can score by just kicking it.

indirect kick 2 people have to touch the ball in order to be a goal.

  • why

  • To be honest this could have been explained a lot easier.

  • it is an indirect kick.....

  • heyyyyyyyyyyy Sorocaaa!!!

  • Oh, and also there is no such LAW as offsides, it is offside (singular)

  • oh now you have a doctorate in English too missy ? you're just awesome lil girl !!!

  • Actually, I'm an official, and this is a pretty poor interpretation of the law (not rule, law). The attacker must be behind the second to last defender or the ball, or be on his own half of the field at the time the ball is played by his team. Any part of his body except for his arms count. There is more to it then that, but those are the basics. It is also an INDIRECT free kick, not a direct free kick. Also for those that care, the AR used his wrong arm to signal for offside in this video.

  • oooooooh a real official ??? wow, ACTUALLY I'm impressed!

    BTW......

those who can , Do !

    those who can't , Coach.

Those who can't do either ....Officiate !

  • wow, way to make yourself sound like an idiot. clearly you have never officiated a game, or at least a real game. And just so you know, I do play and I have coached.

  • Officiate??? why the hell would I officiate when I can actually play ? Maybe one day when I can't see , hear or speak and have nothing better to do with my life I will officiate!

And I'm sure I made you sound like an idiot little girl. That's why you replied to me.

Any game is a real game regardless of the " stage " ding dong !

You HAVE coached and I'm sure there 's a reason you're not a coach now .....

  • I'd like to see YOU on a pitch with thousands of fans screaming at you...

try to make a call in that situation.

Officials need endurance, almost as much as players do.

They ALSO have to run around for the entire match, in case you didn't realize.

And they need an incredible amount of training and experience.

Perhaps we should all respect the Laws of the Game.

And I'm quite sure you haven't read them in their entirety.

Let me tell you: officials, we have to, and many times over.
