  • Is it possible for a gsd to be solid blue?

  • This helped a lot! Thanks! I was so confused on how plush coats were supposed to look like but this did a great job of clearing that up!

  • Not one of these mutts that you've shown show any type of respectable resemblance to what real German Shepherds aught to look like. These should be called American shepherd mutts. Only in the states do you take a breed of dog, re breed it into something else and continue calling it by its original name.

  • @aky19832001 what is wrong with you?

  • @Splashstorm04 Poorly breed dogs.

  • @aky19832001 Yeah, like pictures pulled off the internet.... They aren't mutts or anything.

  • Actually 8:00 this is not entirely correct

    .

The show.line GSD has a standardized coat, the work-link GSD tends to be sable, graysih blackish. Because in work-lines, looks and beauty of movement are secondary when breeding.

    .

  • Huh. Whiteness isn't associated with deafness or blindness in German Shepherds? It is in cats and a few breeds of dogs (such as Great Danes).

  • :( it didnt have a pic of my german shepherds colour... she is white AND tan

  • Hello, I'm wondering if I have a full breed GSD or something related to it. It's a female with a black mouth tan color it's tale is black she does not have a black marking on her back when she was 3 months old she had a light coat now she doesn't she is 6 months old now and has brown eyes and a mole in her cheek

  • Nice :) If anyone is interested in seeing a rare solid blue (long coat) with amber eyes, check my vids out!

  • Mine's liver :D With "Blanketback Pattern" Coat

  • just show us the pic

  • blablabla u talk alot

  • I love german shepherd and we are gettin one in spring time.

  • Great video! I have what i call a RED german shepherd. I always wanted a saddle back gsd, but when I saw my dog I feel in love. He is all red with a black nose. Please check him out and tell me what you think. Best dog I have ever had. MAXPOWER RED GERMAN SHEPHERD ON YOUTUBE. THANKS!

  • hahahahaha!!! at 8:06 that puppy has the cuttest little face!!!!!!!

  • i have a almost all broun shepard he hase black a little around nose ant tip of tail pupy lol he sooo cute his name is riddick such a sweet heart:)

  • @totalgermanshepherds sorry Im confused, I never knew there was a difference between black and tan and black and red. In the UK all the breeders ive spoken to have said its the same thing

  • Don't go out and buy one unless you have 3-4 hours of playtime available daily and space to RUN. These are working dogs. They can't tolerate sitting around all day. They need attention, variety, training, and exercise.

  • @ebhock101 I absolutely agree

  • @ebhock101 I absolutely agree. outdoor dog is a happy dog. check my channel

  • Love the video but I will have to say this: we were lucky enough to find a White GSD at an animal rescue (non-kill) shelter. He's beautiful, looks like a ball of snow sometimes, and when he's standing (or stalking) he looks like a wolf or a fox. His tail is incredibly long, and unlike American bred GSDs his back is straight and haunches huge. GSDs are great dogs, and my girlfriend and I were lucky enough to find one not only SO beautiful - but so sweet and goofy.

  • My GSD puppies is black and tan/black and red, but is nose is grey/brown instead of black. Can anyone tell me if it can turn black while he grows?

  • im getting a 3 weeks plush coated bi color GSD

  • Hi Debbie. Do you think you could do a video on the different GSD lines. I'm trying to find information on them to help me to decide what line I'd like and I find your information useful and really easy to follow. Sarah.

  • @MultiHj12

yes, if they are socialized correctly. if not, they can be overprotective of their property and can attack other dogs

  • I like this I always wanted a white GSd until I met my first black and tan puppy

    loved them ever since

  • is the german shepherd good whit other dogs

  • Have you seen any dilute livers (bb dd)? This would be "fawn" in Dobes. I love the unusual. When I worked at Brooks Air Force Base one of the dogs sniffing out my car was a blue Rottie. I asked the handler about it, and he said their German bloodline occasionally throws dilutes. He agreed with the "No good dog is a bad color" and they use the blues right along with the blacks.

  • I rescued a Liver GSD from the Human Society. Because the color is not seen as much in GSDs he was there for quite some time, as people thought he was a wolf hybrid (he has a plush coat). I'm glad there are websites like this to educate people. thank you:)

  • love your videos. This one is a fair assessment of colors. I breed whites, and totally love them.

  • @DebbieDavidson06 Thanks Debbie - send some pictures for the site if you ever get a chance. I love the white GSDs.

  • I have a medium coat, black and red. He's also bigger than usual--27.5" in height and 97 lbs.

  • i have a black sable german shepherd

  • how can u tell what kind of coat the dog will have as a puppy. I like the black and red type with the blanketback pattern, so do the puppies also have a certain coat design??

  • mine is black and red

  • 2:51 the sable pattern dog in the middle of the last pic looks just like mine..

  • My Russian and German "bears" are all big, all solid, with nice straight backs (no banana backs), all built like heavyweights (not fat; just big), and not one has the same coloring ... or temperament.

One of our babes was born nearly all black, but he underwent such drastic coat changes from 7 to 13 months that he looks like a totally different dog that what we started off with. So lucky to have four males (ages 2 to 3-1/2) that honestly never fight -- so far; but they sure do play rough.

  • @KarmicOmen question for you about your black one that changed colors.... my female had a litter of 9 pups 2 are pure black.... the one kinda looks like it might change...my question is what color did yours change to after being black at 7 weeks old?

  • @kenjackson1977

My Baron was mostly black as a puppy, but turned out black and cream colored with a hint of silver.

  • what about the white ones.. not considered a color in the SV from what I know

  • woo! i thought there are 2 kinds of coats

  • I have 2 blond with blk masks, one blk face with gry/lt gry coat (part wolf), two brn/blk saddle, one blk/red with (c) tail and a;most blk eyes, and one new puppy that is cinnamon head and ears and blk saddle.

  • I have a long coat/ bi-color GS. He is beautiful!

  • I had two GS, Blanketback/bi-color, one plush, one shorthair, but the longhair was poisoned by my NEIGHBOR! I HATE HIM!!!!! D*:<

That aside, colors in cats can actually affect them, did you know white cats are more likely to be deaf and cats with blue eyes often have poorer eyesight? Weird.

  • Glad I am not you, your neighbor would get a good lawsuit and whipping.

  • IMHO Sable is the best looking

  • you forgot panda coat

  • whats things to look for to find a good healthy puppy? And what is the best food to feed a GSD?

  • Royal Canin

  • orijen

  • To find a good healthy pup, look for:

-One that is outgoing and playful but not too roudy

-Bright eyes, clean nose, eyes and ears

-Healthy, shiny fur (no bald patches, etc.)

-Seems interested in you and its surroundings

-One that is okay with your picking up and petting it.

GSD's feeding is no different than any other. It is best you not give it canned (wet) dogfood or it may never eat dry kibble. Look at the package of food closely for vitamins and age group. Leave water out at all times.

  • How can you predict what your puppy will look like when it grows to be an adult? How will you know if his forehead (just above the eyse) and neck will be tan?

Also, how can you know if it's a true Saddleback?

  • Parents and grandparents as well as older siblings from previous litters are good indicators of what your puppy will grow to look like.

  • the color of the coat does not matter if you want to sell dogs..

If you want to sell GSDs to people who know GSD's and not the everage would be dog owner, you have to do better than dressing up an opinion with parentheses.

GSDs were bred to be balck and tan in color with Traditional Saddle markings.

All other colors are genetic bleed throughs, or signs of poor breeding.

If you are looking for one as a pet and dont care then it dosent matter.. watch for hip dysplasxia and heart worms

  • also... the white GSD is classified as a seperate breed now because of bascially what i just said....

dog breeders need to justify diversity in order to move large quantities of dogs... while i love all shepherds, the truth is the truth.

  • Callmebetty123..err..the first few GSDs were sable and bi-colored. The most popular color in Germany is still sable and black is also pretty common.

So I really don't see how you've come to the conclusion that a dog with non-traditional markings is from a poor breeding.

Needless to say, awesome video ^_^ Its the second one from you that I've watched and I LOVE how informative they are. I'm definitely gonna be visiting your website here soon.

  • I want a white one

  • Have you ever seen a german shepherd with eyebrows, like rottweilers have? Ive looked all over the internet and i still havent seen one with that, and i know the parents of my dog and theyre both pure breds. From what ive heard those eyebrow markings are almost exclusive to rottweilers.

  • the blue and liver should not be considered rare, in fact alot of these dogs are associated with health problems and I believe should not be bred. sorry that is what I have seen and experienced.

Temperment and healthy dogs are the most important Factors. Especially when breeding:)

  • 8:15 is too cute

  • I've read that pups born black stay that way for life, and I've read that sometimes they turn color later. I've got a black pup (4 months old) that's starting to show traces of chocolate (not tan) between her ears, on her hind legs, on her front paws, on her tail, and above her eyes. It's very faint, but I can see it. Is it likely that she will change to a black and tan as she grows?

  • negative.

  • That is the best explaination of the colors I've ever heard!

  • I'm a sucker for the sables <3

  • Actually, the blue coat color can be associated with alopecia (not only in GSD's but also Dobermans, etc)

Other than that it's a good informative video.

  • thanks for the info but as far as i know, the akc does not recognize white coat gsd's as german sheperds

  • wrong i got a white shepard he is amazing

  • it was highly informative. thanks for uploading it. keep us posted

  • Thanks for the upload!

My current GSD has the Tan and Black colored coat with short fur, he's so cute!
