I saw this movie on VHS when my fam bought this back in the 90's when I first heard Raphael cussing I was like "Ohhhhhh ninja turtles said the bad word". XD good times.
Many people disappointed the fact that the Turtles didn't kill Shredder but Splinter does.
I don't agree with them. Because... Isn't this LOGIC? I mean, we're watching Shredder, a guy who is a REAL Ninja and learned real ninjizu, battling versus four teenage mutant turtles that learned ninjizu by a mutant rat who learned ninjiuzu by imitating the moves of his master from his cage.
I think the review is spot on except for the Casey Jones part. Casey does change. A character developing a heart doesn't mean that he has to go soft. He exposed the Shredder's misguidance and saves those kids by eliminating the source of the corruption, Tatsu first then Shredder. Instead of mindlessly beating up criminals, he learns to fight for the right cause.
I think that you understimate this movie a bit. There´s a big family theme, a bond that exists even after death. Also Splinter thinks he will die and says good bye, making sure the turtles will support each other as brothers. That´s deep. Because, even though they´re mutants, the lesson works in real life too, all you have is your family and the only true love you might get in life is that of your brothers, sisters and parents.
Critically 2.5 out of 4, Dude Ninja Turtles turn off analytical brain and see it for what it is. Turtles with a father that has a past with a ninja gone down the wrong path.
@Cokedlr If you're familar with Cerebus the aardvark then I think you probably ask the question I did. Why should ninja turtles turn off the analytical bran and not a warrior aardvark?
I couldn't disagree more with the first minute of the review. I 'm getting the feeling that reviewer never reed the comics. If so they would know that Turtles did tackle social and/or philosophical commentary. Anyone who has read City At War or had read the works of Rick Veitch or Michael Zulli. Also, I would like to point that Cerebus the aardvark illustrated theology and political satire. So why is it that Turtles can't tackle deep thematic issues, but its okay for an aardvark?
For non official movie-reviewers I would give a medal for these three guys:
Goldmedal to: Captain Logan
Silvermedal to: Nostalgia Critic
Bronsemedal to: Movie Angry Joe
I saw almost every review from these people, and I'm watching several of them over and over again, because there well-pointing and pretty entertaining.
And the shredder states that the 3 other could have bested him, but rather they fight with honor 1v1 and they throw their weapons away for their brother. Raphael throws first and it shows that this rebel turtle never hesitates when it comes to ego or family. Its an awesome film that mixes everything good about the turtles (dark, funny, loyal). Amazing foot clan and shredder. Great support from Casey, April etc. Best movie ever made ALL GENRES. But even if you disagree get your facts straight.
The turtles show what it means to live for eachother (family, honor, love) and this is what Casey learns, he teaches the foot soldiers after helping Splinter down that what they have is no family, that they live of hate, like he kinda did. The comrades in the turtles and the romance with April changed him. The turtles could have defeated the shredder (the shredder even says so, but after Leo wounds the shredder he recklessly charges and the other turtles gladly throw their weapons away.
Worst review ever. You the start is a joke, you dont understand the turtles, the middle is good, the ending is terrible. 0 out of 5. First of all the Shredder "dies" from his fall, which he forces upon himself by the last throwing weapon forcing Splinter to release him. Casey Jones just mangles the suit and makes it clear to the audience that he wont rise again (like many villians do, and Shredder still does). Secondly the turtles are the heroes, the face the foot and the shredder.
omg, it doesn't matter if the turtles didn't end shredder themselves, and not all movies or books are named after the most featured or played out characters.( ex:the phantom of the opera, Julius Ceaser who dies mid-story.) it wouldn't sound as attractive as Old-aged-mutant-ninja-rat, would it? i wouldn't relate, but like the other aforementioned titles, the story revolves around the turtles, and the ending serves another theme that "all fathers care for their sons" when he saves them.
casey jones has anger management issues. the end! raph is no way a qualified therapist, so why assume his anger issues would be solved? if anything, that stayed true to the original material.
I really enjoyed this movie I kind of give it a 3 out 4 but compared to the rest of the films this is definatly the best. TMNT gets an honorable mention but I really enjoyed this movie
i will always remember when raphael was alone on the roof, and fought valiantly until being outnumbered and beaten to near death as the others unknowingly have fun in aprils antique shop
I was so obsessed with TMNT back in the early 90s that i was deemed turtle boy in school, i had everything turtles and was blessed to grow up having money which fed into my obsession and to this day i still love tmnt, i have all the dvds of the original series and all the 2K series or atleast i think i do.. they are so out of order i can't tell anymore.
As for this film i just got the TMNT blu-ray set and plan on watching 1,2,3 and TMNT the CG one, it's been about 5 years since i watched 1/2
I disagree that the goofyness of the cartoon was always appealing to kids in the 80's. Even then I just wanted to see fights, violence, kicking to the head and cold blooded killing. The goofyness was imposed upon us and was frustrating.
Was it not just padding? You take out the violence of the original comics and you're left with alot of space to fill.
Even as an adult, I still find this movie to be very good as far as a movie about pizza-loving, crime-fighting, teenage turtles goes. The original movie is generally based on the comics but still has some of that goofiness. It's a surprisingly effective movie.
I personally don't mind that the Turtles aren't the focus point more than some of the other characters since I find it just a really well done movie and story in the Turtles stuff.
The teenage mutant ninja turtles were my favorite when I was younger, when youre young you dont realize all that goes into a movie I just focused on the funny and silly things. Great review!
I hated a lot of the original animated series, but thought it improved drastically by the time the mutations arc came in. I also liked the new series, Back To The Sewer, not so much Fast Forward and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but felt that the remake series was going no where without the Shredder. Hear a new origins film is coming from Nickolodeon maybe and animated series from them too. I liked the recent DVD film. Superman really is important methinks and should be good you review of it.
