  • Foul?!?! Last time I checked, this is a man's game!

  • You know who I never heard say that Charles Smith got hacked? Charles Smith.

  • @mrmacross Actually Smith has said on several occasions that he was fouled at least twice. Mr. Smith is from Bridgeport CT my home town and lives in Greenwich. He regularly come to Bridgeport for charity events and is always asked about this sequence. He told us the last time he visited the Shehan center that he felt he was fouled. He mentioned that he doesn't say anything to the press because whats done is done. so yeah. Thing is if it was a bull whistles would have flown!

  • Patrick Ewing screwed up s well on this play.

With his ultra- small hands for a center, he couldn't drive to the basket and dunk the ball, and he falls down, thus allowing the wimp Charles Smith to try to tke the winning shot..lol

  • Charles Smith = Wimpiest player in NBA history.

  • horace grant is a G

  • Defense wins Championships

  • wonder if that bj layup affected the spread

  • U KNOW WHAT!!! CHARLES SMITH WAS FOULED AND THE KNICKS WERE CHEATED!!!!!

  • Ewing had a great game, the knicks missed 15 out of 35 foul shots, that's what cost them the game.

  • You have got to have mental problems or know nothing about basketball to say that John Starks was awful because No one that dunks on Michael Jordan is awful. And Charles Smith was clearly fouled at least twice. He was also the number 3 overall draft pick of his year, still holds the records for leading scorer and shot blocker at Pitt, averaged 20ppg in 2 of his first 3 years in the NBA, had a career high of 52 points, and all anyone remembers him for was missing shots that he got fouled on. B.S.

  • @chizzaz1020 lmfao smith was not fouled and i love how all the delusional knick fans keep talking about starks's dunk on MJ. okay glad to see you guys are so passionate about one dunk. how many times did MJ and Pippen school the knicks? hell even horace grant and bill cartwright punked new york.

the knicks fans can keep harping on about how great that "dunk" by starks is. i'd rather choose to celebrate the six nba titles the bulls have anyway

  • THE CHARLES SMITH BLOCK SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I SEE THAT PEOPLE SAY STARKS TRAVELED BUT IF YOU SEE IT CLEARLY PATRICK EWING RAN OVER STACEY KING AS YOU SEE HE CLEARED OUT WITH HIS RIGHT FOREARM ON THAT DRIVE IT WAS CLEARLY AND OFFENSIVE FOUL ON EWING. THAT SMITH PLAY SHOULD'NT HAVE HAPPENED.

  • @ATLVET You're right but, it's at the end of the game, the refs usually swallow their whistles.

  • Simmons

  • Thumbs up if Undrcrwn brought you here!

  • Can somebody figure out the date of this game??

  • @smallmuta july 2nd or 3rd, 1993

  • LOL epic fail. Dude cant possibly still be living in NY can he? Because I can imagine people still cussing him out today if they see him on the street. Ether that still burns. Still not as bad as Nick the Brick though

  • If that was MJ in that same situation you could bet your life he would of got the foul call.

  • @sonedts Why would MJ EVER be in that situation?

  • @boredfun91 Have been watching the 93 playoffs replays on NBA tv recently and it just reminded me how much of a crybaby MJ was. Any call that went against him, he would be right in the refs ear complaining and NEVER get a T. Talk about having the refs and D. Stern in your pocket. What a joke.

  • @sonedts no, when jordan give stockton a clean block he was called, when we saw. And it was in Finals game 5 of 1997 i think. He was also called for travel in the finals against utha unlike lechoke who was now exception to the rule of travelling and double dribble.

  • @vitalcoordinates Of course there's bound to be some instances here and there. I didn't say he never got called for a foul EVER. Derp.

  • Charles "layup" Smith.

  • LOL why didn't he just pump fake??? I'll always remember this nonsense as a Knicks fan.

  • I doubt this is the play that Pat Riley drew during the timeout:

John Starks tries to play point guard and travels the fuck out... dumps the ball to Ewing inexplicably at the 3-pt line... who dribbles awkardly, loses his balance and barely flicks it to Charles Smith... Smith forgets he's 6'10 and goes for soft layups instead of dunking... gets punked by Grant, Jordan and Pippen twice...

One of the most ridiculous plays you'll see after a timeout with the season on the line... LOL

  • also, nice travel by Starks @0:02

  • lol @ knicks fans saying there was a foul...maybe if patrick ewing didn't brick every clutch shot he had taken since 1991 and refuse to take the last shot, Charles Smith's sorry ass wouldn't be going up against 3 defenders underneath the basket.

  • everyone wants to blame Charlse Smith...the blame belongs to Ewing. With 17 sec on the clock he's outside when he should be somewhere in the hole waiting for the ball. Then he tries to play point gaurd and almost turns the ball over. Charlse was just trying to make the best of the bad situation that Ewing created. And uhmmm...No foul.

  • I hate this lol. This is also something that would happen to Jared Jeffries lmao.

  • RIP charles bubba :(

  • Joey Crawford would have put Lebron James (Charles Smith in this case) on the line after the first strip. Pity the stupid rules of todays game are ruining the flow. Now you can't even look at the guy you are guarding without being called for foul.

  • FOUL BY PIPPEN. TWICE!!

  • @davincci18 you're out of your fuckin mind

  • FIRST OF ALL, John Starks TRAVELED BIG TIME !!!!!!! He picked up his dribble and then literally moved both of his feet after Jordan jumped in the air

  • I said it 18 years ago and I'll say it again.. CALL THE FUCKEN FOUL!!!!

  • @klabkebash Anybody who calls that a foul doesn't know REAL NBA basketball. Sorry new kids on the block, but the 80's 90's NBA >>>>>pussy modern ball where refs call finger flick fouls

  • @klabkebash foul??? geeeeetouttahere

  • This was a shame for the Knicks. The 92-93 Bulls were not as good as their other championship teams, and were ripe for the taking. The knicks were not that bright of of a team, and they also choked in this game, playing very tight and missing free throws. They had the Bulls down 2-0 in this series. Then the Suns, who I believe were more talented and deeper than The Bulls had an idiot for a coach (westphal), and he blew a few games for them.

  • @burbonboy i'm sorry the knicks just choked. even when they did beat the bulls (mind you without jordan but still with pips and grant) hakeem the dream taught them some tough love on fundamental basketball lmfao. sorry to rub it in your face it's just i hate the knicks

  • The Knicks lost that game because they missed 15 foul shots. Ewing missed about six of them. I had a bad feeling about that game because they were shooting close to 60 percent and only up by 1 at halftime. The Bulls had the refs in their hip pockets. Also, when the Knicks traded for Smith, he was damaged goods; he had two bad knees. The man was hurt and had no explosion like he did with the Clippers. The Knicks messed up by letting Xavier McDaniel go the season before.

  • The fuck is Smith's teammates.

  • "Ewing for Smith... Smith... stripped, Smith, stopped, SMITH STOPPED AGAIN BY PIPPEN! WHAT A PLAY BY SCOTTIE PIPPEN!" epic!

  • Damn. How many times did Marv Albert say "Smith"? Lol.

  • Hahaha this was on PTI

    Smith Again!

  • Michael Wilbon jizzed all over his television set when he originally saw this.

  • PTI brought me here. Wilbon wasn't 100% accurate but I remember seeing this game live, wonderful memories. Chi Town!!

  • Yup! Wilbon wasn't quite accurate with his call

  • who watched pti today lol

  • FUCKING SMITH DIE

  • Smith Again!

  • sportcenter makes this sound more dramatic than it is.

  • Comment removed

  • Shitty Charles Smith..lol

  • For a second I thought #42 at 0:28 was Big Baby Davis

  • At least the Knicks have always been consistent. So far, they have two 4th Quarter playoff chokes against the Celts. Now that they're competitive again, we'll see what new ways a basketball team can choke in the 4th quarter of the playoffs. If I only had a dollar for every time this team choked...

  • jared jeffries...if the knicks beat the celtics you are saved...but if they lose...you will be next to charles smith as all time playoff blunders..

  • every knick player should see this before regular and post season and be told......DUNK THE FUCKING BALL!!!! YOU HEAR ME JARED JEFFRIES??? DUNK THE BALL!!!!

  • Dunk the ball !!! There should be a rule in the nba, if your over 6-10 you should not lay the ball up if ur under the basket. You should dunk the ball or face a one game suspension. lol

  • @kerrybynoe lol

  • This is what made the NBA great. you wouldn't get this nowadays, someone would have got called for a foul.

  • Garnett will be doing this to Melo in a weeks time.

  • 7 people watch pig wrestling!

  • @MilwaukeeSwag Actually this video did look like pig wrestling... if that's how the game was played back in the 90's, I'm glad things have changed since then.

  • i dont think any current team would average more than 80 points against both the bulls and knicks from the 90s, this was some whack ass physical defense being played

  • SMITH. SMITH STRIPPED, SMITH STOPPED, SMITH STOPPED AGAIN!

  • Smith was assaulted by Pippen on the 3rd & 4th attempts.

  • My all time favorite NBA play besides the 98 Shot, that's how you play defense!!!

  • I loved the Chicago's Defense in this year - Jordan,Pippen,Grant& B.J.

  • Charles Smith can never show his face in NY again!!

  • "Smith, stripped, Smith stopped, Smith Stopped again!" classic Marv Albert.

  • this is how you play DEFENSE

  • I feel bad for Charles Smith. He just so happened to be triple teamed (pause) by 2 of the greatest defensive players in history and an underrated defender in Grant.

  • These days a foul would have been called on that. But back then all of that was legal...and it was great.Grant going up for the block and Smith running into him wasn't a foul because Grant went straight up - incidental contact back then and legal.Had Grant jumped into him it would have been called. As for other contact, hand is part of the ball.Today they might give a foul for incidental hand contact, not back then.In the 90s they usually let teams play last 30 secs, unless the foul was severe.

  • @gf4670

Yeah I liked the game better back then. It was grittier. Those Knicks teams were a bunch of thugs.

  • HACK JOB!!! Bullsh-t officiating!! FOUL!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely amazing. Best basketball play in the past 20 years. Loved it.

  • this is what basketball is supposed to be about. teamwork, defense, and hustle. its not about the fastest, biggest, or strongest, but more like who has the strongest will. not all that showoff crap. scoring comes as a result of good defense as shown in this video. notice how michael jordan was in the paint making as good of an effort as anyone even though he was a perimeter player. the best players have defense, hustle, and teamwork as their number one priority

  • I remember back in 1996 i was at newport mall in NJ at the movie theater and charles smith walked in w his wife and sat directly in the row in front of us. My friends said " isnt that the guy who got stuffed by Pippen?" hahahah his wife turned around and gave us a mean look. Then after the movies he walkd out n we were behind him and we continued to talk. They both didnt say a word but just gave us the evil eye and kept walking out the door. That was a memorable moment.

  • @parim31 cool ass hell.

  • Lets see it's Game 5 of a Knicks Bulls Series in the 90's....you are DREAMING if you think they would call a foul in the last 15 secs with the game on the line. That was 90's ball people! I would rather see this than the "OLE D" that is happening now!!!

  • @Thrillos9 I'd rather see this than the "Ole Fouls" the Mavs allegedly kept committing in the 2006 Finals. Those last two games were the worst officiated games in recent NBA history. The 2002 West Finals had nothing on those two games.

  • Charles Smith was fouled at least once on that 4 tries. I was living in New Jersey when I watched this game in 1993, most people there are die-hard Knicks fans during those days. Absolutely travesty to watch this that no foul was called. Go New York Go New York Go anthem!!

  • Comment removed

  • @JEEF645 If he was fouled the down-ref would've called it.

  • When Charles Smith retired, the New York Post headline was:

"Charles Smith: The End of an Error."

  • I love the way Smith slammed the ball down at the end of the game in total humiliation and dejection. LOL. That game depressed the living hell out of Knick fans because they knew the series was over at that point. LMAO.

  • Charles Smith, what a wussy. He became know as Mr. Rejected.

  • @tempusrerumedax Did you notice it wasn't a one-on-one?It was a whole Bulls team on one guy, and he hung in there. He didn't put the ball in, but he showed superhuman strength and determination, solmething you can't appreciate.

  • @WorldOfSnakes superhuman strength? SMH You must be a butthurt Knicks fan. I had $ on the knicks and they didn't come through. Well I should blame P. Ew for playing hot potato with the ball and passing it off to Smith instead of taking the clutch shot.

  • @tempusrerumedax Man take your head out of your ass for a minute and stop reading comments with your partisan eyes. It doesn't matter what team we're talking about. I'm saying that a man alone was fighting with the whole team and he persisted for an incredible amount of time considering the situation he was in. By the way I'm a Bulls fan.

  • @WorldOfSnakes No, you should look in the mirror for partisan eyes before you start pointing fingers. Smith wasn't fighting the entire team. He was getting blocked and stripped by 3 defenders. That's his legacy.

But then again, exaggeration and hyperbole is the sole right of homers, whether they wear hanes underwear or not. :)

  • @tempusrerumedax lol alright.

  • once again Pippen wining for the Bulls!!!... He is the best defender I have ever seen and the most complete player overall....ask magic johnson, charles smith, any guard , forward or center even...he was the best!!!

  • This is why Scottie Pippin is in the hall of fame. Stuff like this.

  • In this series the bulls were down 2-0. Then the bulls won the next two... This was the all important game 5. I believe this single play changed the series completely as the bulls went on to win the next game and eventually their third championship. If Pippen didn't make this play, and the bulls went down 3-2... IDK... Thank God for Pippen.

  • Can we call this "The Charles Smith memorial day"?

  • DEFENSE wins Championships

  • in today's game, the refs woulda been called a foul. lolololol

  • @MarkoManX on Jordan & Pippen? Doubt it.

  • The Chicago Bulls of the 90s, greatest sports team ever?

  • Terrorized.

  • superior!

  • 0:23 gotta LOVE that signature jump from Michael Jordan!!!! not to mention that jump was in slow-mo!

  • Comment removed

  • First off.....Charles should have never been in that position. With 18 seconds left on the clock Patrick Ewing is well behind the free throw line, while there is no one in the paint..WTF? Then he tries to take his defender off the dribble like Mark Jackson and falls on his face, again...WTF? Out of desperation he kicks the ball to Smith. I don't know who drew up such a shitty play but they're the one to blame. If Ewing was any kind of a leader he would have been in the paint instead of Smith.

  • Pippen, Grant & Jordan swarmed! Whoever said the Bulls couldn't play D during their Dynasty didn't know 'D' about Basketball.

  • @TheSurefireGamer Playing D is exactly where they won a lot of their championships. When playing against the Knicks those games got very ugly and baskets where hard to come by. The Bulls just had it in their minds if you are going to make it hard on us to score then we are definatly going to give you the same treatment on the other end and it paid off in the tune of 6 rings. It also dosen't hurt when you have defenders like Jordan and Pippen and later Rodman lol.

  • @TheSurefireGamer That's the stupidest strawman I've ever seen. Who the fucking hell would say the Bulls couldn't play defense? I've literally NEVER heard that from ANYONE in my entire life. In fact, anyone you could possibly ask -- even Knicks, Cavs, Jazz , and Pacers fans -- would say that Pippen, Jordan, and later Rodman were some of the best defensive players ever.

  • @TheSurefireGamer What nimrod said the Bulls didn't play defense? Yeesh, they had their Doberman Defense during the first three peat, and Scottie turned around the series against the Lakers by taking on Magic. Oh, the youth of today. :-)

  • @TheSurefireGamer who says that? do people say that? i have never heard that in my life. if i did, my head would explode. the bulls were the most dominant defensive team of the 90's, especially in the playoffs.

  • I dont think anyone of you watched that last play JZ2001JC said it best it seem like starks travled and if anyone saw it it clearly show that patrick ewing cleared out on stacey king come on people that charles smith play should not have happen.

  • bkstyle...I appreciate your honesty...I think what bother me the most from that generation was how many people were coerced in rooting for the bulls b/c of jordan and they only one that profitted was jordan with ballon sneaker prices which led to crime violence spike up in urban areas NY AND CHICAGO ETC...and the fact that jordan after getting unsurmountable support especially from the inner city poor did nothing for the community!..even to this day he still dont extend himself to the community!

  • anyone other than whereisbasketball tested out the nba exercise course for dunking and shooting? Even Kobe, Ray Allen and Gilbert Arenas have used this program. If you have no clue what I'm saying, just look at | 50 inch vertical [dot] com |

NBA Moment - 1993 Bulls block Charles Smith aisekgjspufmxc wsvrrwscracgvpewv #whereisbasketball

  • Look at that D!!!! Pippen was my favorite player during his playing career and MJ is a sports God, but very few people today realize that they were complete players. Not just offensive weapons.

  • amir...since you decided to step up and champion the cause for anitviolence..let me remind you that this is all just back and forth good fun on youtube..words may be harsh and menacing but in all its part of blogger fun..I strongly suggest you consider a career with the united nations as a guest speaker for anti violence maybe we can hold hands and sing kumbaya!! by the way the only thing that is pathetic is your distorted judgement !!!

  • how many of these bulls fans from back then are still riding their dick?... oh thats right these grownups who watch jordan were drooling over him in his shorts! lol!!! especially the fagg from the bronx who said he didnt like the knicks ..you were lucky you didnt live on my block you fag! real bronx nigga live and die ny! you probably was a jailhouse snitch may into a fag! who got the bullshorn stuck up his ass>>

  • @ajbono40 Nothing screams America like tribal fits of rage and empty threats against your fellow countryman based on Sports. Yeah you kick his ass and show him how true New Yorkers represent the Bronx. Pathetic.

  • @ajbono40 I'll speak for myself, but I'm still a Bulls fan and I kept being a Bulls fan despite those lean periods post MJ. I agree with you though. There are too many bandwagoners

  • gotta love Doc Rivers standing there with the "what the fuck just happened?" look on his face! What the Bulls did to Smith was borderline rape!

  • Welcome to the block party!!!!

  • Marv Albert's the best: "Ewing for Smith. Smith. Stripped Smith. Stopped Smith. Stopped again by Pippen! What a play by Scottie Pippen! Final seconds...Jordan from Armstrong! And the Bulls have defeated the Knicks! The Chicago Bulls with a couple of spectactular plays!"

  • Smith was the butt of jokes in my hood after that, miss a shot we use to say Smith..

  • @warningmode ....lol. Me and my pops still do that. Whenever we see someone yam real tough, we say "charles smith". Its a sarcastic tribute to the worst moment in NY basketball.

  • Pause it at 26 seconds...look how high Jordan is off the ground celebrating. Whenever he made that signature jump, the Bulls did something REALLY special...that jump usually meant they won the title. Jordan never celebrated like that unless it was a HUGE deal. This was the best game I ever saw in 20 some years.

  • oh, god. make it stop.

  • #VIDEOPOSTERID#, shit that is OD. this is coming from someone who s the shortest on his team but can dunk with EASE. I followed the vertical leap training program over at 50 inch vertical (dot) com and gained more than 12 inches on my jump.

NBA Moment - 1993 Bulls block Charles Smith

  • in modern NBA there would of been at least 5 fouls there....NBA is so soft now

  • @LmagnifiCent, in any NBA era that would've been a foul because it was a foul. The refs wanted the Bulls to win. If Charles Smith was wearing a Bulls uniform the refs would've called the foul instantly.

  • Marv Albert's performance is legendary here: "Smith Smith Stripped Smith Stopped Smith Stopped Again!" Great tongue twister, legendarily accurate play call AND vs. his local broadcast team aka so easy to flub it in the excitement.

  • I love the local radio broadcast:

Smith blocked! Smith again blocked! Smith again blocked! He gets it to Horace to BJ, he lays it IN!

  • 230 is way light for 6' 10", he was weak for his size.

  • @shanemc68 lol if 230 lbs is light for a 6'10'' guy, than what am I supposed to say at 5'10'' 125 lbs =X

  • sucks to be smith

  • I hate the Knicks almost as much as the Pistons back then.

  • On March 12, 1992, Smith was convicted of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crime, in the hit-and-run deaths of two Boston University students on March 22, 1991.

  • @mparker18311 Wrong Charles Smith. This is Charles D. Smith, not Charles E. Smith.

Also for those saying he wasn't strong enough, that's a load he was 6'10 230. If that's not strong enough to dunk on a couple of 215 pounders that were shorter than him that's ridiculous.

  • On March 12, 1992, Smith was convicted of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crime, in the hit-and-run deaths of two Boston University students on March 22, 1991.

  • @mparker18311 Wrong guy.

  • Why all the hate for Smith? He was fouled.

  • @jts729 No, he wasn't fouled. He was just contested and he had three of the best defenders in the league at that time and I believe some of the best of all time (Grant, Jordan and Pippen) making fantastic defensive plays there. He didn't do anything wrong, but the defense just made some unbelievable plays and needs some respect.

  • @va3svd ,Doc Rivers did the same thing to Jordan, he stripped Jordan and got called for a foul, so when Jordan does it,then it isn't a foul.LOL. The refs were biased towards the Bulls, the refs loved the Bulls. Charles SMith was mugged under the basket. All of those blocks weren't clean, they hit him on his hands

  • @tuzwol Mugged? Then where was the whistle?

  • @va3svd you are On point

  • SMITH. SMITH STRIPPED. SMITH STOPPED. SMITH STOPPED AGAIN!

im glad im not a knick fan!

  • haha, it still hurts.

  • I still to this day f-ing HATE Charles Smith.Dunk the god damn ball for christ sake.Shithead.

  • He would have to muscle his way passed the defense. That is a terrible spot to be in with the ball. The Defender has the glass to help block the shot so it's not a just a matter of getting passed the defensive player. Smith wasn't strong enough. Strong guys like Shaq, Howard etc would muscle their way to the hoope and get fouled. Smith just wasn't very strong and couldn't the ball passed the defense and the glass.

  • whatever. smith is now one of the more successful retired NBA players. he's getting his masters and is making bank. look at someone like iverson. he's about to be a homeless fuckup.

  • Whenever some shit happens in my life that makes me hate the world... I remember Charles fucking Smith and the first time i had that feeling.

  • This makes my soul hurt. Lebron, where are you?

  • LOL it's so beautiful isnt it?

  • Damn...Damn...DAAAAAMNN you Smitty!!

  • fuck fuck fuck

why am i a knicks fan

  • worst non call in nba history. smith was fouled by pippen on his third attempt. pippen the cricket had his arm around smith foreheard. just another example of the league showing favor to jordan & that scumbag phil jackson.

  • @66jtm45. LOL were you watching the same game. IF anything STarks got away with a travel at 0:02 and Ewing plowed over Stacy King at 0:06 and it should have been a charge.

  • When the Knicks got Charles Smith, he was hurt. You can see instantly that his knees were shot and the Clippers gave the Knicks damaged goods. The Knicks missed 15 foul shots. That is the REAL reason they lost the game. It should've never come down to Smith. Also, when the Knicks won the first two games in that series, they had 4 days off before the series resumed. Commissioner Stern always had funny-ass schedules when it came to Knicks-Bulls playoff series that benefitted the Bulls.

  • Awesome, awesome play- I could watch that forever. And every one was totally clean. Thank God for Chicago that year!

  • @tb516 Amen brother I use to hate the Knicks back then especially John Starks

  • Charles Smith's reaction to the lost game is priceless! Harassed into not making the shot, and the finish lay-up by BJ Armstrong to cap off the Knicks meltdown after being up 0-2. Slamming the basketball, LOL.

  • Hahaha I'll never forget watching this. As a Bulls fan, you expect this. You expected them to play shutdown D in crunch time.

  • Without a doubt. This clip is a pretty good microcosm of this 90s Bulls-Knicks "rivalry". The Knicks were a very good team, but when push came to shove, the Bulls were just fucking better.

  • and look where they both are now.....

  • No words to describe this moment ...

  • Bill , damn you for reminding that

  • Simmons !!!

  • simmons
