I remember the games i played when i was a kid , and the quality of those games . Most games nowadays just suck... Most important thing in a game for me is the story and gameplay, graphics wont mean anything to me.
Hey man, i know this video is like 2 yrs old but still relevant. hell more relevant even now i d say !!! First off, I pretty much agree with everything you said. Seriously those fucking 10-12 yr old kids who think that a quality of a game is somehow based on how GRAPHICALLY advanced the game is. According to them (and Im not kidding), they ve said that old games suck because of 'bad' graphics and thats its not CoD. (Personally I dont like cod, have tried it, didnt like though,.....
@BenTennison16 ....I dont hate cod as a game. But the culture surrounding it is absolutely disgusting given the demographics playing these games. I agree also with the replay value. Oh my , games like half-life, Return to Castle wolfenstein etc. - used to love replaying those. Then, recently, I grabbed one of those revived legends - Duke Nukem Forever. All I can say is GROSSLY AVERAGE gameplay if not worse, riding on its former glory. The modern gaming industry is going down...fast.
Most newer games do suck, especially if you are not into multiplayer that much.
But there are some decent ones out there for example playing Lost Odyssey right now, not that new but it is very long, has the level grinding irritation level of castlevania games, and is good.
And has a ring system similarish to shadowhearts.
If you have not payed Shadowhearts I suggest it.
Though I will admit most of my game collection is PS1 titles and GBC titles, PS2 as well because I honestly love older games.
I'm 13 and I grew up with a SNES. I thought it was the best thing ever. So creative, fun, it was such a joy. When i went to newer games I found some good and most o.k or garbage. I always went back to my SNES and replayed games having fun each time. Up to now I always go back to the classics getting tired of these new games. I honestly think if I had never had classics, I would be the same, average, douchebaggy gamer that most(or some) gamers are.
I am 14, and I did start playing video games in the ps1 "ages". I played ps2 for so long also, and it has so many fun and creative games, all with great replay value. I even play SNES. Newer games are not good. All game developers focus on these days are graphics and multiplayer experiences. But where has... the feel of the game gone? The gameplay? The story? The memorable/incredible experiences? And the replayability! I do like some newer games, but I will always miss the way older games were.
@Bassisbeastiful Tell me about it, I've been playing through Megaman recently, I've beaten 1-4 with absolutely NO save states (the first Megaman has no passwords either) with my PS3 controller plugged into my PC, Megaman 1 is TOUGH, and so is 2 on difficult.
I have a review on my gamespot account, the link is on my channel :)
Sorry, I was on a roll. Don't say young kids. It doesn't make you look any older. I call you young kids. Have fun getting worked up from comments, you seem like an angry human being.
How old do you think I am? I was 16 in this video, I'm 18 now, why are you trying to present yourself as some wise old gaming guru? I laugh at comments like this, you think you've got some clout behind your computer screen, when you're commenting on an almost 2 year old video trying to make a point, and you're talking to me as if I'm 12 years old lmao, by the way, hows the band coming along? lmao "Myspace" band, why even bother?
@LokizarroX You express your opinions, I express mine. I guess I really got you going, to scout the internet for dirt on me. Do you know what happens when you get older? You watch a video from a 16 year old kid ranting about 'new and old', and think to yourself, 'this kid thinks he can represent the old school community, he wasn't but a twinkle in his father's eye, I've got to say something'. Not that being young is a bad thing. By the way, Castlevania SOTN is awesome if you like old ps1 games.
@NathanicusMaximus I know where you're coming from, but you're on one hell of a high horse..
I didn't mean to offend you at all, but you come on here, making assumptions left and right, and because I tell you I play old NES games on an emulator, suddenly my argument is dismissed. Do you have a better suggestion for getting ahold of an NES and original cartridges for less than HUNDREDS of pounds/dollars? didn't think so.
I've heard SOTN is awesome, I'll look into it, thank you.
@LokizarroX Hell yeah, I think you can buy it on psn for like 7 euros (10 dollars where I live) Sorry to get off on the wrong foot. I still have my old Odyssey 2 and SNES from the day, I remember getting a little pissed when games went to disc after the 64. Keep making vids, I swear I'll stop with the trolling. I only wish I was 18 again.
yeah i had more fun on the ps2 gamecube and xbox than i did on the new systems games are just to short and aren't that fun after you beat them they dont want to make me play em over again
i don't play a whole lot of new games. If it is a new game, then it's most likely from a video gaming franchise that I am already familiar with.
I admit it...I have a hard time getting into newer video gaming franchises.
PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii & Nintendo DS are cool consoles but when it comes to older games, I personally prefer games on consoles like Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy & PlayStation.
I would like to get a new Nintendo & even an N64 & Sega Genesis.
i agree with your opinion, but dont you think you were a bit rude expressing them? well its mostly kids you're talking about because thats most of the new gamers in this time.
but i would also like to say that i dont know of any modern game that is better than most old games on the story mode. i dont really care about graphics much like a typical new gamer. my favorite shooters game is counter strike source, and the graphics come nowhere near to newer games. the music on the retro games were definitely much cooler. im also not like a typical "tr00" old school gamer that say "the worst the graphics are, the better the game is"....
i love both new and old games. old school mario, zelda, sonic etc. and i also like halo, call of duty (only part 3 and 4, the rest are shit), battlefield etc. but i have to say i like modern games more than old games because modern games has online features. and i know that some old games that are sold on the wii ware/xbox live market/psn market have online capabilities as well so please dont give me crap about that. BUT, my favorite game of all time is MegaMan the classic series 1-10.
By the way, I totally agree with you that the newer games don't have much replay value. That's why I tend to wait for newer games to come down in price before I buy them. I'm thinking about selling some of my used games because I rarely touch them. There are certain newer games I wouldn't sell, though, like Ghostbusters: TVG or Transformers:WFC, both of which I find myself playing whenever I'm itching for some nostalgia.
First of all, getting the older games can sometimes be more difficult and more expensive than getting the newer games, depending on age and scarcity of supply. Secondly, it ultimately doesn't matter how quickly someone plays through a video game. If the video game doesn't have replay value, then playing through it slowly won't change that. Finally, why are you trash-talking kids that probably have no idea how to track down the older games or even know about them in the first place?
PS2 is my all time favorite system, I definitely prefer older games, cuz of the replay value, and the experience where todays games lack experience and replay value. The only strong point of todays games are graphics and online gaming, not that there's anything wrong with that, but it pisses me off that people make these demands about games of now, that they want it with better graphics and online gaming to make it the best game ever, fucking bullshit. I'm with you on this one dude. PS2 FTW!!!
@deividas56 I don't mind COD or Halo or few of the games today, it's just that I don't like to play online, unlike all the other crying scumbags that would rather play those for online and for graphics, which is why it's popular and older games are forgotten, online shit is "replayable for people to enjoy" blah blah fucking blah. NES-PS2 era, are the legends. FNGG (Fuck Next Gen Games) they could kiss my ass.
Marvel vs Capcom, The punisher (beat em up game from 1994 not the crappy new one), captain commando, metal slug, megamen in general all capcom and snk games for the arcade.
Never get tired of them and also PS1, PS2 games.
The only PC games that I like are Doom 1, Doom 2, Quake 1,2,3 (now live)
I think newer games are to easy. Like Manhunt (2003) is a real challenge especially on Brutal difficulty. The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is a challenging game. There's still some games that are challenging out there, but most of them are to easy. MW2, you can take many hits on Veteran without dying for example.
damn keeping speaking the truth man older games are better in terms of shooters, I always find myself going back to Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Turok 2, Doom, and all the other classic as well I have been playing Starcraft again lately and I have to say, it is the best RTS ever made
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
why do you need to have knowledge of the companies past, you buy the fucking new game to play it not to say oh i remember they made this 30 years ago etc, it doesn't fucking matter and do you have a problem with your eye your always fucking touching it you idiot.
I think you have a lacking of intelligence or respect, you are clearly a stupid modern day gamer who doesn't know jackshit ABOUT video games... do you have a problem with someone else's opinion? looks like it, oh and "blakemore" ? the name seems VERY familiar, stop stalking me and get a damn life you pathetic fucking troll.
Your 100% Correct. It is very good to have knowledge of past games. Yes I may only be 17(born in 92) So I missed out on the nes days and most of the snes days, but my first system was the snes, and I loved that thing to death. I have a pretty good knowledge base of alot of older school games. I do find old school games to be alot better. I couldnt tell you how many times I could go through super mario world or mario 64. I also agree that alot of modern day gamers these days are just assholes.
Ya see, this is the topic that I rip on the newer gamers that pisses off alot of people. it is not that I hate casuals, I am just trying to help them get into other games.
hes an alright guy to play with but at times meh , i actually think one decent fps is coming out thats multiplat that will kill halo ,aliens vs predator 3 i liked the pc games and this one looks unreal LOL literally
Man I miss the old games it was all about the game play and not the hype.
The fact is when games like Modern Warfare 2 come out they overshadow other titles which have potential.
Yeah your right people complete games quickly and don't talk about them.
Then it's on to the sequel etc etc.
I remember I could always play Super Mario Bros 3 all the time and not get bored and it was the same for Mario Kart 64 and Mortal Kombat and other games especially the Streets Of Rage series.
it depends on the game for me i played RE5 over and over and i loved MGS4 i play through that now and again the same with uncharted 1/2 and a few others so ive never gone back to ps2 games... and ur right people need to stop over hyping game MW2 isnt that good 5 hour story wtf!! and crap online maps
Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2, (MUST BUY, I recommend it over MW2) Demon Souls, Dragon Age Origins, Borderlands, L4D2, (plenty of replay value) Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Tekken 6, Batman Arkham Asylum, and many others that came out earlier this year. There's plenty 2 play dude, u just gotta have the funds for it all.
that's another thing, I can't afford all this shit and to be honest, not much of those games appeal to me Massively, L4D2, MW2 and U2, yes, I think Dragon Age Origins is a "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate 2 as well so I may look into that.
well Baldur's Gate 2 and Mass Effect were both developed by Bioware, and I got this from wikipedia, I know it's editable but I doubt it's a lie either.
"BioWare co-CEO Ray Muzyka described Dragon Age: Origins as a "spiritual successor" to the Baldur's Gate series, though it is not based on Dungeons & Dragons."
Well there's plenty of FPS out there, u should know. KZ2, R2, MW2, BBC2 and MAG r soon 2 release, Halo ODST, and the list just goes on. U can play fighting games for action like King of Fighters, SCIV, Tekken 6, and Ninja Blade wasn't 2 bad. A lot of hack N slash at the psn store, and if u like RPG's u need 2 get Demon Souls.
Old games r great and all, but it's time 2 move on. Those old consoles aren't being supported anymore so it's no reason 2 linger in the past. I agree with older games having more replay value, but newer games have much more of everything else. If u need some enjoyable good games, I could recommend some.
I agree, ppl r VERY ignorant. MW2 is the same thing as the first with a few changes. The only 2 major changes 2 that game is Spec Ops, and the amount of fukin campers. (It increased a lot) Yet, ppl seem to praise it like it's a Halo game or something; stupid as hell if u ask me. The gaming industry is becoming saturated. However, there r plenty of other games 2 play, ignore the fools.
Death and Killstreaks are annoying IMO, just gives ppl unfair advantages. MW2 is 2 much of the first, and I won't support Activision again. Besides, I growing tired of FPS now anyway. It's extremely refreshing 2 play other games that don't involve guns and that r different, innovative. (excluding U2) Like AC2 and Mirror's Edge for ex.
I wouldn't exactly call those good examples, Mirror's Edge was like Red Faction 1, have an awesome idea, make the first level/few levels focus on it and be awesome, then after that you're in closed rooms that take away the freedom you had.
@animekid200 there were a few closed rooms but it definitely didn't take away from the freedom. Just the idea of that type of game was interesting, meanwhile FPS r all pretty much the same thing rehashed.
I remember the games i played when i was a kid , and the quality of those games . Most games nowadays just suck... Most important thing in a game for me is the story and gameplay, graphics wont mean anything to me.

and tbh i wasnt trying to complete mw2 its just amazingly short and kinda boring on single player
micgamer16 2 years ago
yeah yeah I know lol, I complete games pretty damn fast as well, it's mainly the ignorance of the people nowadays that gets to me.
LokizarroX 2 years ago
@LokizarroX people that hype up games get to me
also people who defend the shit out of a series
i gave my opinion on halo to someone who asked what i thought of it
i said i dont really like it and he kept saying how good it is ect and then said ps3 was shit lol

Well, Mirror's Edge did have guns didn't it? lol I'm sure u know what I meant though.

Ruber212 2 years ago
that's another thing, I can't afford all this shit and to be honest, not much of those games appeal to me Massively, L4D2, MW2 and U2, yes, I think Dragon Age Origins is a "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate 2 as well so I may look into that.
LokizarroX 2 years ago
Well, what kinds of games r u into for the most part? And Dragon Age Origins should only be compared 2 one other game, and that's Mass Effect.
Ruber212 2 years ago
well Baldur's Gate 2 and Mass Effect were both developed by Bioware, and I got this from wikipedia, I know it's editable but I doubt it's a lie either.
"BioWare co-CEO Ray Muzyka described Dragon Age: Origins as a "spiritual successor" to the Baldur's Gate series, though it is not based on Dungeons & Dragons."

and I mainly like Action games, FPS, TPS, Hack N Slash, RPG etc. I'm not a huge racing game fan and definitely not a sport game fan.
LokizarroX 2 years ago
Well there's plenty of FPS out there, u should know. KZ2, R2, MW2, BBC2 and MAG r soon 2 release, Halo ODST, and the list just goes on. U can play fighting games for action like King of Fighters, SCIV, Tekken 6, and Ninja Blade wasn't 2 bad. A lot of hack N slash at the psn store, and if u like RPG's u need 2 get Demon Souls.
Ruber212 2 years ago
Old games r great and all, but it's time 2 move on. Those old consoles aren't being supported anymore so it's no reason 2 linger in the past. I agree with older games having more replay value, but newer games have much more of everything else. If u need some enjoyable good games, I could recommend some.
Ruber212 2 years ago
it's just the fact that people are so ignorant that really pisses me off, I like newer games too, but I love PS1, PS2 and PC games.
LokizarroX 2 years ago
I agree, ppl r VERY ignorant. MW2 is the same thing as the first with a few changes. The only 2 major changes 2 that game is Spec Ops, and the amount of fukin campers. (It increased a lot) Yet, ppl seem to praise it like it's a Halo game or something; stupid as hell if u ask me. The gaming industry is becoming saturated. However, there r plenty of other games 2 play, ignore the fools.

I would have accepted MW2 as a sequel if they balanced the weapons and perks, instead, pick P90/M16, get 25 Killstreak easily, win instantly.
animekid200 2 years ago
Death and Killstreaks are annoying IMO, just gives ppl unfair advantages. MW2 is 2 much of the first, and I won't support Activision again. Besides, I growing tired of FPS now anyway. It's extremely refreshing 2 play other games that don't involve guns and that r different, innovative. (excluding U2) Like AC2 and Mirror's Edge for ex.
Ruber212 2 years ago
I wouldn't exactly call those good examples, Mirror's Edge was like Red Faction 1, have an awesome idea, make the first level/few levels focus on it and be awesome, then after that you're in closed rooms that take away the freedom you had.
animekid200 2 years ago
@animekid200 there were a few closed rooms but it definitely didn't take away from the freedom. Just the idea of that type of game was interesting, meanwhile FPS r all pretty much the same thing rehashed.
