  • Christmas Eve, 2011. It's not a bore. Ian Burden is 54. Happy Birthday, Ian. And Merry Christmas.

  • reminds me of pips, on fennel st.

  • @mushy295

    pips was great

  • 3 people should be boiled

  • What a work from theirs i did come across long time ago btw . Paradoxically being little guy i still keep on my mind this one song and i 'd risk today music makers get yourself completely out of any invention how to came about with catchy music at all. Perhaps times passed by and whole this stuff will be never repeated :(

  • also wer is deutsch

  • Reproduction(79!) und Travelogue (80!), der Zeit damals echt voraus!

  • meine erste electro single platte die ich je hatte. MEINE NR. 1

  • industrial electronic music at it's finest, from a time when it was all new and they were trying stuff out for the first time. Love it.

  • Anyone else get image get images of being a passenger in a car, driving down a street with yellow street lights and going at 70?? Then watching it back in slow motion?? Cause I do!! :))

    Brilliant song.

  • yeh..

remember this years ago..stoned ta death lol

  • YORKSHIRE! YORKSHIRE! YORKSHIRE!

  • unforgotten

  • I still have this very single. Still my favourite band.

  • I just saw the Human League in Las Vegas - they did this song and Empire State Human, much to the befuddlement of 98 per cent of the audience.

  • 10/10

  • This is something to fucking dance to!!!!!!!!! bunum.... bunum....listen to the voice of budda

  • this is the 1978 version, BTW

  • @asspennie wikipedia shows me the 1978 single was mono. A new rerecorded version went onto 1980's travelogue album. EMI then remixed the original 1978 single to stereo and released it in 1982 as a single after don't you want me, probably to make some fast money off of fans who weren't paying attention and didn't realise they were buying an old tired new wave rerelease.

  • @girlie347 yawn. this is not the 80s version, girlie who wasn't yet born. This is not even the Travelogue re-recording (1980 isn't actually the 80s, btw) which features completely new/different instruments. this is the 1978 single version. stop prattling off 3rd-party factoids you found on the interweb. are you familiar with the term "primary source"?

  • @asspennie big words for someone who starts with 'yawn', the immature way to win weak arguments.

  • @girlie347 you are stupid and wrong. period.

  • @asspennie 1980 isn't the 80's? huh.

  • @fuckamericanidiot there's no year "0". so in one sense 1980 was the start of the 80s, in another sense, 1980 was the last year of the 197th decade. like: what was the first year of the 21st century? 2001. the year 2000 was the last year of the 20th century. yeah...kinda arbitrary.

  • @asspennie ok, but no one does that; 1980 is the 80's, you even get songs from 79 on 80's compilations sometimes

  • @fuckamericanidiot yeah...true

  • Awesome Art

  • I LIKE, OAKEY IS GREAT

  • Great, love this song!

  • perfect

  • Such a fucking great classic... HELL YEAH!

  • martk1972: can yoy please change it to "1978"!!!

  • evergreen, can hear it... blood flowing of my ears, play it again...

  • All time favourite Human League, even though it wasn't a hit.

  • Its actually 1978 it was released.

  • i remember this when it came out everyone had the fred perry hair cuts, i loved this band in there early days then they sold out and went shite.

  • could you set it to ne err metropolis?

  • Was originally from 1978 but re-released later..

  • always makes me laugh when tossers come on and slag a video or song off... if you dont like it just simply FUCK OFF... go and find something you like...

  • @chomondleywarner Yes, because I'm the one trolling here.

  • @chomondleywarner So was the comment I was responding to and so was your comment. Ignorance is a great guise word for "opinionated".

  • This is from June 1978, not 1982

  • if this was on the radio all the radio's playing this song would shatter because its sub zero

  • epic....just epic

  • So innovative!

  • Sector Nonstop

  • the synths are fantastic for it's time.

  • @Busher50 And to think that Ian Craig made one by himself!

  • I luv zis

  • Used to hear sounds like this on John Peel's radio show, then go into some trendy music store in Glasgow to order it.

Sadly missed is John Peel. Many a band made it because of him.

  • what a great song

  • This isn't from 1982. You've cocked up there. Moving on... this is a fucking fantastic track!!

  • We fade to grey sorry wrong song

  • Okay, ready? Lets do it.

  • Okay? Ready? Let's do it.

  • Goil.

  • luv u human league

  • Erinnere mich, irgendwann gehört...an Autoscooter 82 in Stuhr -Brinkum.Verdammt,da war ich noch nicht Grün hinter den Ohren! :-)

  • Top!

  • This song was so ahead of its time, sounds very similar to fade to grey and also has a bit of a modern hip hop feel to it

  • @Fedluke Hiphop? Sorry but that's not even a valid comparison. Hip hop artists just use the synth melodies from Apple Garage Band.

  • "Electronically Yours"

  • I love the rawness of the synths on this track, Korg 770 style! Definitely my favourite League track.

  • original version is the best version. 1980 version

  • @thewelly1973 , actualy, the original version is 1979. They could have re-released it again in 1980.

  • @henrythebootleger 1978 : )

  • masterpiece!

  • masterpiece!

  • First single I ever bought, and still truely dark and brilliant, HL at their best

  • einer der ganz großen songs des E-POP

  • I love the sound of this. It's like dark sounding, this will be getting added to my favourites :)

  • Ich kenne das vom Transformer aufm Volksfest und das Lied ist trotzdem epic. :D

  • @Phant0mZer0

daher kenn ich das auch xD

  • absoluter "KRACHER" damals und heute noch !!!

  • endlos geiler sound ;---))))

  • human beeing ;-)))) like a hu-man, a travel to the OMniversum

  • yesterday when i found this song i felt so cheated ^^ i mean i always love to discover "new" great songs from the 80's and this definetely is one. but there is that english rap song of the afro-austrian band "aphrodelics" that features all of the music from being boiled. it is from 1998 and i always loved it. now i feel so cheated by them ^^ i am only gonna listen to being boiled from now on :p

  • If you want to buy an 12 inch you can always command!

  • Ab brilliant, saw them at Bingley Hall Stafford Dec `81, anyone else there that night ?

  • Genial!!!

  • this was released just as a 7 inch?

  • No, not just as a 7 inch. At least not in Europe. I still have a german extended 12 inch. But for the U.S. a lot of those new wave tunes were released many, many years later, like "garlands" by the cocteau twins and stuff like that...

  • ok ready lets do it

  • Comment removed

  • Na, da hat aber jemand in Geschichte nicht aufgepasst...

  • I love it! Absolutely underrated! Why they don´t play it in the radio?

  • @Mr18051980

Oh yes, they play this song in the radio, in SWR3... ;-)

  • @VorstadtLuder

I heard it also on NDR 2 on April 16th 2010 ca. 18:15 h for the first time since ca.1986 (Radio)...I was really surprised, but it was a wish-ceremony. But still great! And I heard it too in Berlin before Ultravox entered the stage...from the tape before.

  • @Mr18051980 well, I think it's a little too "underground" for most radio stations that play '80s music... they usually focus on the bigger hits by the Human League like "Don't You Want me Baby" or "Human"

  • @Mr18051980 cause its to little mainstream ;)

  • @Mr18051980 They do! I just heard it! But they don't play it again .. and again .. and again.. ;)))

  • @Mr18051980 beacuase its "too" unfamiliar to the fuckin average ear who is used to Lady gaga's shit

  • @Mr18051980 I don't think they could fit in the radio.

  • @Mr18051980 maybe because it has like 30 years ...

  • @Mr18051980 Because it has hardly no words.

  • @Mr18051980 i can remember being as little child .. it was being played for sure ..

  • @Mr18051980 The same they don't play ANYTHING good on the radio? At least the Human League get about 6 tracks altogther (not great at all I know!)-Kim Wilde gets one (her 1st and least exciting debut single), OMD, Bangles get scarcely better, and Alphaville and Sandra (being non-UK & non-US creed) get nothing! Lovely pathetic hell radio is isn't it? Blame Madonna the trash, retarded arsehole djs, their bullshit playlists, sponsors, programmers and worse! Bastards!

  • Fantastic. Playing around with their new toys and coming up with a new sound.

2nd best band of the era.

  • The Human League was just signed to UK's recording label Wall of Sound! New material (songs, videos, album) expected in 2010!!!

  • It's just great, all these old Sheffield electronic bands/industrial band coming back..

TG, SpK, Human League and Cabaret voltaire in some form..

  • The Human League just got signed to UK's recording label Wall of Sound! New material (songs, videos, album etc.) expected sometime in 2010!!!!

  • john leckie prod., me thinks, it`s from 80? re-released in 82, check also out Simple Minds "travel" !!

  • Great track, they opened with this when I saw them in concert. I thought it would be lame but they rocked.

  • Love this track, it reminds me of the music for John Carpeners Assault On Precinct 13.

  • well, that was the 12´´ I possessed and meant XD

  • It's a good song but that eq turns my stomach.

  • whats the eq?

  • EQ is short for equalization. It's a filtering technique in the audio industry. It's also the reason why the song kind of sounds like it's buried under ketchup.

  • @bluesrunthegame haha yep. I was wondering that. Muddled out.

  • eq?

  • Absolutely brilliant in every respect. They were up there with Throbbing gristle and Cabaret Voltaire in pioneering the "industrial" rock/techno sound.

  • Yeah I KNEW IT! I COULD HEAR THE TG(Throbbing Gristle) Industrial "signal" soundish Electro sample in there.

PS- Industrial isn't electronic or acoustic its experimental, just wanna point it out xD. Anyways do you know any material involving any of them?

  • @abagail4me so SO! true!!!

  • I remember when this first came out.

Someone called it Heavy Metal without guitars.

  • ROLLER CENTER EPPENDORF HAMBURG..

  • search this song so long, thx for upload!

  • 1978 first single released by THL

  • the cover is from 78 but this seems to be recorded a little bit later... I´m not sure about the intro

  • this is 1978 and not 1982

  • As far as I know: It's not. It's the 82 remake, which is quite a bit better than the 78 version.

  • In '82 the record company EMI re-released the '78 Fast version to cash in on the success of Dare. It's exactly the same version except it was an edit with 35 seconds knocked off and a fade-out instead of the original abrupt ending. That's the only difference and is not a 'remake' just a reissued edit. Production was the same. In truth there's only two versions of Being Boiled; the '78 version (+ it's '82 edit) and then the dancier version released on the Holiday '80 E.P. and the Travelogue L.P.

  • Ah, okay, interesting! I stand corrected! =)

  • Yeah, it's all very confusing. ;)

  • IS THERE A 12" OF THIS??

  • Nah, sadly not but there is a dance version released a few years later with disco hand-claps, horns and a full-blown production. It can be found on the Travelogue album and is very different but definitely worth getting.

Type in "Human League Being Boiled Travelogue" and it should come up for you.

  • Uusaly i dont like 12" because its too progressive, i mean you can dance to something in multimix, and BTW you could try editing the track in FL Studio, Reason, Goldwave, Audacity, or some other audio and music editings/developing software, might be too hard course you cant edit old tracks that well.
