After listening to some other renditions on youtube, including by Elton John, Sinatra and Andy Williams in his later years, I have the impression that the only way this song can be interpreted without becoming pure sentimental kitsch, is understatement. Only Katie, Audrey Hepburn and the younger Andy Williams have understood that. That said, I like Katie's version best.

Very inspiring and a hauntingly beautiful rendition! Is it just me or doesn't a song like this just make you well up with emotion? I'm overcome with so much feeling and contemplation. This is the song I want to hear when I breathe my last and go to the beyond.  Truly a gift.

Look up moon river at yt Hepburn's version from the film is here. Its a totally different and better melody. Henry Mancini wrote it and after all of the many vesions he heard he liked Audrey Hepburns the best. Look it up andplay it on yt.
