The serpent looks the most realistic here when it's attacking the lighthouse. It moves just like a real snake would. No sock puppet here. Even when the lighthouse keeper looks down at it from the top, the serpent's eyes and head look like a real snake. I believe they used a real snake for this scene that crushed the model lighthouse.
