@JoshuaWolfWilcox it's easier because ps3 is the lowest denominator of pc/ps3/360. you can't take symmetrical multicore code and dump it onto an asymmetrical processor and expect it to work the way you can do the other way around. cell/ps3 code requires additional considerations.
the worst part is that people don't understand that sony deliberately stifling this generation with this sneaky strategy, though gabe along with most game developers saw it coming.
This was interview was taken before the system even came out 5 years ago, a lot can change in 5 years, like learn how to properly and efficiently write new code.. as we see Gabe giving away a free PC version of Portal 2 when you buy it on the PS3.

No they don't. It is difficult writing for 7 SPEs and a PPE. You have to break up your work into nuggets of code and individually compile for each of those microprocessors. Then there's the whole issue of optimization.
Naughty Dog does not differ on how hard it is to write for the PS3. No one that is human differs.
Blizzard really did start a gaming revolution. Even software companies that don't even focus on MMOs, find that World of Warcraft is some Holy Grail, and want to figure out how Blizzard found it.

Valve's problem is their very old school and they have problems getting programmers who can program for PS3, they have had this issue right up until a couple of years ago when they finally hired some programmers who can multi-thread program.
Looking at Valves games today and steam today then going back and re-analyzing What Mr Newell said then, was very ahead of it's time. Which is why Valve is very popular now and why Left4Dead and TF2 games are so popular.

He first went to Microsoft but they basically said "No way Jose, we want to charge people for stuff like DLC!" So he went to the PS3 because that's the only other console that can support a low - medium end version of Portal 2. He still hates the cell architecture system, but Sony is the second choice. This isn't a time paradox, this is him extending his business to other platforms, and if nobody wanted games on the consoles he would have ditched it.

@JackBandicootsBunker Hes doing PS3 stuff because its very web connected. He never caved in or took back what he said, he (as the owner of the company) had to make a call. He choose the lesser of 2 evils, if its going to be a bitch to code, you might as well get more connectivity out of it.

@grffnchn65 yeah especially since they design a ton of pc games. probably because PS3's version has cross-platform play with pc and a pc key to the game on steam and a cloud storage device so you could start on ps3 and finish on pc.

I doubt that. What benefit would Sony have into playing into the hands of both Valve and Microsoft?
People are making a way too big deal out of this. Most likely it's going to be narrowed down to shared friend lists and Steam Cloud offering less regulated access to update Valve games on the PlayStation 3, rather than having Sony charge and certify every single update.

Gabe isn't trash talking the PS3, he's making a comment about Sony's use of the IBM Cell package to deter multi-platform (and competition obviously). What he says about the Cell is inherently true though...not just trash talk.

@dhshrh dude stfu, many of us just are not PC gamers, but that doesn't mean we don't want to enjoy games like half life and L4D2. Gabe's reasoning to why he hates making games for consoles makes perfect sense, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want new players to experience his games.

Naughty Dog begs to differ on how hard the PS3 is to write for 8-) lol ... this is just Gabe's opinion early on. They've clearly came around to the Playstation brand (or Sony just threw a boat load of money at them UNTIL they came around to the Playstation brand)

@pnroyal That's a very unfair comparison. Naughty Dog is a company owned by Sony and they are going to get a LOT of help from them as it's the only platform they develop for. For a third party, multi platform developer like Valve it would've been much different.

No they don't. It is difficult writing for 7 SPEs and a PPE. You have to break up your work into nuggets of code and individually compile for each of those microprocessors. Then there's the whole issue of optimization.
Naughty Dog does not differ on how hard it is to write for the PS3. No one that is human differs.

I has a ps3 and a PC. :3 Ima get portal 2 for the ps3 to see how it rolls or I'll get both. Even if Gabe did say wrong of the ps3. He obviously changed his mind for a good reason and I just pray to god this means updates for all the valve games on sony too and a whole lot more like L4D and stuff.

Valve's problem is their very old school and they have problems getting programmers who can program for PS3, they have had this issue right up until a couple of years ago when they finally hired some programmers who can multi-thread program.
Looking at Valves games today and steam today then going back and re-analyzing What Mr Newell said then, was very ahead of it's time. Which is why Valve is very popular now and why Left4Dead and TF2 games are so popular.

You'd think that Microsoft and Activision would learn the lessons of old, what happened back 9 years ago when so many faceless greedy publishers ran out of money due to people not buying because they had little to no support because all they wanted to do was release it, then make money then move on? Are they so quick to forget EA's forever tarnished reputation for destroying Command And Conquer and liquidating several great developers which they partly owned... guess what? THQ remembers...

reading the comments...... Still using the same internet meme called "ps3 has no gaem" that died 2 years ago.... Even PS3 troll group 4chan /v/ says "xbox has no gaem" now(after e3 2010 actually).... Only Gears of War and Halo.... Not even mentioning that ps3 users dont have to pay to play online, blueray player and Xbox is a hard failure of hardware... Microsoft failed to fix disc starching and Rrod for 4 years and ne slim version gives error messages(e74 for ex) and shuts itself...common sense
