If you really think so, there are plenty of anime that are more realistic than that. Samurai Champloo, Afro Samurai, Sword of the Stranger, Rurouni Kenshin, and other samurai-type anime. There are others that focus on guns like Cowboy bebop, Canaan, GITS, and Black Lagoon. Anime as a franchise is so incredibly huge that you can find absolutely anything you want.

I'm sure you've had plenty of responses as it is, but most popular action anime is just crazy unrealistic fight scenes that appeal to teenagers. The best fight scenes of anime come from samurai/gun warfare/fighter anime that is more realistic. I would recommend Samurai Champloo, Afro Samurai, Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, and Fist of the North Star since it's a classic.

Kitamura confessed to Sumire, but she didn't want to commit since she knew it would have been a long distance relationship, and that Kitamura would have chased her to America. She didn't want him to sacrifice his opportunities for her, etc, which is why Taiga called her a coward... There are a lot of things leading up to this point. For the full story, I recommend you read the novel...
