'It's better to be a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without one.' My translation of what I think he means by this is that it's better to be the King and having to kill to get there than be a noble who has done nothing wrong. Are you sure he said this? Doesn't sound very wise to me.

Good points like "An oppressive government is more to be feared than a tiger." People should be morally righteous. People shouldn't fight for no reason. Bad points: His outright support for hereditary status, the power of the ruler comes not from the people, but from the Mandate of Heaven, the caste that puts people in an extremely hierarchical society. Now You tell me whether Confucianism is a good philosophy or a failed one.

@ehanren Confucianism is a cult, it use the ancient Chinese philosophy twist around to make feel good. Confucianism think to much, lack understand body and mind are one. It try every method possible to mind control the population to justify the greatest of Confucianism. It lack respect for other people difference, view and opinion. The whole teaching is about how big your ego can grow. This type philosophy has cause more economic failure result in war and more dead.

@tomabc2003 Confucius teachings were basically to be one with yourself, and to bring peace of mind. It is not blind nor is it "stupid" it is simply to be at peace with yourself and the surroundings.

If we were to ALL listen to these teachings then there wouldn't be much hate in the world.

I suspect some of these quotes aren't in fact from Confucius at all. The one at 1:06 for example. (Did Confucius know about diamonds?) I don't remember coming across them in the Analects. Perhaps if this vid could tell me which chapter and which line in the Analects they came from...

Confucius was a great man of wisdom, but that doesn't justify putting everything you like in his mouth.

Before I made this video, I did some research on what he said and that quote was one of the things he said. I didn't just "Put things in his mouth" because he was a great man and doesnt deserve that. And it would be utterly wrong.

He is highly respected in my race and region and it would be utterly wrong to do that.

I guess the word "diamond" in this video might be a mistranlation of the word "Jade", or 玉in the original texts from the Analects, Family Letters: Jade 36, in which Confucius says "瑕不掩瑜", literally means" The splendor of a jade never can be obscured by a minute flaw on it."
