Not so. Men may not style their hair in extreme fashions, wear shorts, in some places may not wear short sleeves, or clothing with large designer labels or insignias. Neither may men wear gold or silk. The "awrah" of a man is from navel to knee, but men are expected to be dressed much more than that.

You misunderstand. While Islam says man need only wear pants which cover from navel to knee (and I wish men in America were so modest) men on the streets of Tehran are expected to wear long trousers, and long sleeved shirts.

I don't approve of taking people away screaming for dress code violations, but I am a Muslim woman, and there is nothing offensive or irritating about a scarf and coat. In summer, linen is cooler than the sun beating down on your skin.
