Hey guys, sorry for taking so long to comment but as moderator said, we would prefer to have discussions on Rakebackdollars-com.
That being said I will weigh in on the discussion. First, I did play particularly tight in this video and definitely could have made some calls, where I made tight folds. Though at these stakes, players call way too much in spots that they shouldn't, so I wanted to set a good example by making some tight folds.
It is far better to make a tight fold too early than a marginal call too late. As far as small PP's go is the real issue is that if we 3bet in that spot we are only getting called by a dominated range. So we are creating a bloated pot, OP, with a dominated hand. These are not spots that I want to put myself in. If we are playing mid or high stakes, there may be some times that this is appropriate but at small stakes, I just feel that there is a need to make fancy plays like that.
Let's take a closer look. First, 3betting is probably by far the worst option. At the very best we are going to be 50% against his calling range and there are no flops that are good for our hand. So we will be playing a bloated pot OP with a hand that is often dominated. If we give the btn a 40% opening range(which is wider than 90% of players at these stakes) we are still only have a 55/45 edge. Then on virtually every flop we are going to have an underpair.
Now let's say we flop a set. Well because btn's opening range is wide, it is very unlikely that he hit the board hard so we are virtually going to never get good value from our hand.
So to summarize, when we call OP with small /med PP's we:
1) Are playing a hand OP that is at best a slight favorite
2)It is extremely hard for our hand to improve postflop
3) Are going to be put in difficult spots on virtually every flop where we are going to have to play the check and guess game.
I am not saying it is impossible to play these hands profitably from the blinds, but I would say less than 1% of small stakes players from my experience do. At the end of the day, we are going to have much better plus EV spots to play and don't need to play these hands. Also let's just say we have a better hand than the btn? So what, sometimes we are going to be folding the best hand and there is a name for players who never fold the best hand. Calling stations.

Hi Guys, Thanks for comments, when you mention a particular hand can you also add the time it was played? I tried to find the hands your talking about but its very hard to find it in a 30minute video so if you could please add the time, we can get a even better discussion going on and that's better for all of us as we can all learn off each other.
@coreycunninghamkarl Small PP's are only good when you hit a set. They play terribly though unless you do hit your set. They are hard to play oop aswell
@the3bigreddevils I agree but with a small PP you are nearly always ahead of a standard button raise and a 3bet oop seems like the best play. A lot of players will fold to the 3bet if they raised semi-light and even if they call you have the betting lead and can rep a big hand. That's without saying if a low-middle flop turns over you're usually dealing with overcards and are ahead there.
It doesn't really work like that on 50nl. a 3bet makes you real susceptible to a 4bet ( I dont expect players here to do this weak at this stake but players will make this move here) and hes playing at a table where I can safely say he has a big edge on. So no need to 3bet unless you feel they are very weak. Every flop is pretty much a bad flop for your hand and its hard to tell where you stand especially with loose calling stations like he had at the table
@coreycunninghamkarl And it doesn't matter if you are ahead cause you are out of position with a small PP which is just terrible. Like I said unless you know you can take it down preflop with a 3bet ( which you dont always do for obvious reasons ) calling or folding is the right play most of the time especially when you have this type of hand and the edge that he has @ this table. When you have a edge, don't build big pots with terrible hands.
@the3bigreddevils Yes he coulda 3bet and lead out and most likely take down the pot but thats very risky and no need to risk when you have an edge like he did at that time.
@the3bigreddevils Even if a high flop hits, you were the 3bettor. You have the betting lead and can rep a big hand and if a middle-low flop hits you're usually ahead and in the odd time you hit your set it is far too profitable to just pass up on playing small PPs. I think it depends on playing style tbh, i for one have quite an agg style.
@coreycunninghamkarl So its way to profitable to 3bet with 5's out of position and lead? is that what your saying??7.5 - 1 to hit your set. Play those odds at these stakes and you will come out ahead.
@the3bigreddevils What i am saying is that is it more profitable than mucking all small PP's completely. I am in favour of limping with small PP's in general but i will never flat a raise oop with a small PP. It's raise or fold in that position like most hands played oop to a raise.
@coreycunninghamkarl I feel bad for your BR then if you raise everytime you have a small PP facing a race oop.You just said its raise or fold and he did one of those options......
Fine, except explain seriously why you would ever want to flat AQ in the SB to a button open? That just seems like a huge mistake. The button open range is so large, and a flat just lets him have an opportunity to hit his hand. And he has position on you so....the flop comes, you miss, he c-bets...you fold? so you just donked off your calling chips. I would always raise AQ in that position, he either folds or calls (obv) but you have much more credibility for any move you make postflop
@BoobiesHooray I would have called the Q9 hand just for information, what the hell is that guy flatting pre that beats you at the end for him to shove all his chips? I mean maybe QJ, Q10....A8 seems more likely based on his turn check....idk, I would have called.

And with the 4's, how you can check fold to one river bet when you show so much weakness by checking every street. You really don't like small PP's.

Why not reraise from BB with 5's? You're nearly always of a standard pf range. I don't ever like folding any pair pre to one raise.
