  • I don't know if I'm alone in this or not, but when the strings wiped their faces with their clothes in unison, I really wanted the brass to empty their spit valves in unison too!

  • Ahhh!! Thank you Grampa!!!

Not every 12 year old will know this piece of genius music!!

  • @MCRocks27 In New York all 5th grade has to do ballroom dancing. This is the music for the swing section. About every 9-10 year old in New York knows this song.

  • This is for my dad

  • What are some other great songs like this from the early and mid 1900s?

  • I have to play this in my school's Jazz Band... So much fun!!!

  • @OrangeCountyRider I have to play this in my schools Brass Quintet haha

  • _An accordion player walks onstage wearing nothing

but his accordion and a pair of socks.. ` The host goes:

  • My Dad's favorite music and I love it too growing up in the 50's.

  • Hey guys, what's the name of the song in this video? Is this Glenn Miller?

    youtube.com/watch?v=7ihS3GlM9ZQ&lc=w5z-xObJ_SnXeqJf7tu0LzEW92utjJyh54zuJcP1TkI&feature=inbox

Thx for your help, swingfans! :)

  • AMAZING! OMG! :)

  • "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing!" - Duke Ellington

113 people don't have that swing thing I guess.

  • This Glen Miller with this song, Bill Haley with Rock Around the Clock, Rip It Up & Shake, Rattle and Roll, and Chubby Checker with Twist and Twist Again are the legends of swing, rock and jazz, this is true music entertainment and magic, may it never be forgotton, I thank my family for introducing this to me from an early age.

  • we used to play this song in our football games when i was in high school back in the 70's WE JAMM even before it was our high school traditional song for football players, and spirit. GO BUCS, ONCE A BUC ALWAYS A BUC. Corpus Christi, Texas

  • Amazing performance today in Zagreb, those guys really know how to make a real show!

  • Looks like a D'Angelico New Yorker... or an Excel at the 1:14 mark and later.

  • hoooooooray for his concert today in Croatia!!

  • Not the original version but better recorded. The sound of the ocrchestra keeps the spirit and - what´s more important - the swing. It´s one of those classics that defy the passing of time.

Recomended: Twelfth Street Rag by Pee Wee Hunt and Diddle Doodle by Larry Clinton. Two songs that swing and rock in their way to Infinity and Beyond

  • I can play this on my violin thanks to my Jazz band teacher! Joey D was one of the best music teachers, besides Ms. J.

  • Four million views! Right on, right on, right on!

  • The first time I heard this song was when I pressed a button on one of those music things at the store. Now every time I go to that store I press that same button. I really like this song.

    =)

  • This live performance is hilarious. A delight to watch. The string section with their one note LOL. "Man that one note was hard."

  • Too fast - were they rushing to catch a bus? Nice, but the famous version conducted by GM himself is better.

  • I gotta say this song does my soul good, yes it does.

  • 109 people are not in the mood

  • @wefromdiffcountry , 111 people wouldn't know good music if it crawled out of the toilet and bit their meat. (little nod to Zappa)

    SO MANY MIGRAINES

  • were playing this song for the middle school richardson prep hi jazz band and we sound close to this i love it

  • Our school's swing band played this. I'm not talking about a waterbed down high school arrangement, no; I'm talking the actual, professional composition. Except that only one instrument played the solos rather than the whole section, which made it all the more impressive, really.

  • turns around at the end and is like you got nothing on us.

  • @TheNarniaFreak 'cause it's just so groovy-fast that your mind can't even keep up with it

  • REAL MUSIC.

  • Being a violinist aside from a jazz pianist, my favorite part has got to be when the orchestra plays their one note then wipe the "sweat" from their brow. Classic.

  • Esta musica te lleva al corazón de Estados Unidos, fabuloso!.

  • Awesome... But didn't Glenn miller die in 1945?

  • @Dominoe11112 He did go missing in 1945, after that, one of his Tenor Saxophonists/Vocalists(Tex) took over the band. That is why this version I would say does sound alot different from the band under Miller direction

  • @Dominoe11112 whats ur point?

  • Love the Trombones throwing their trombones, legendary!!! Great trumpet solo.

Does anyone know if the glenn miller band is still good today?

  • @MamboMan2314 lol they probably ooooollldddddd but im sure they havent lost their touch......i think

  • it is just more accurate I have seen it classified as the Big Band Era or War Time Swing.

  • 104 pessoas não sabem o que é jazz!!!

104 people don't know what is jazz!

  • not to be rude but this is classified as Big Band Music not Jazz. I do enjoy this live version there is so much more energy than the studio version on vinyl. Rock and Roll is just The Blues set to the tempo of Big Band and Swing Music. Listen to the Bass Guitar in this song then listen to any early rock song its the same rift the lead guitar just takes the place of the brass and the lyrics are just old blues and folk tunes. The transition of music is so cool.

  • @sapperfilms2100 You know, you're not the first one to claiming that this is Big Band music and not Jazz. It actually doesn't make sense. Here's the definition of Big Band: "A large group of musicians playing JAZZ or dance music". Haven't you heard of "Big Band Jazz"? Or are you just saying that it would be more accurate to call it Big Band, rather than generalizing it as Jazz? Just curios, since this statement keeps coming up.

  • @calism23 I don't know. It depends on how strictly you define jazz. For instance, if it doesn't have any improvisation, some wouldn't say it was jazz at all.

  • @sapperfilms2100 Both jazz and rock take from the blues. 12 bar blues is everywhere. That doesn't necessarily mean it isn't jazz.

  • @sapperfilms2100 big band is a form of jazz (jazz has many styles e.g bebop, cool or west coast, jazz rock fusion, stride, chicago style, kansas city style) Jazz was formed out of european and west african contributions in New Orleans. I've taken a few jazz & music courses at my university

  • @sapperfilms2100 actually rock and roll is a syncopation of accents on the second anf fourth beats of a measure in common compared to jazz which mostly had accents on the first and third beats of the music in the rhythm section.

  • @sapperfilms2100 take a jazz class then be more inform cuz u r ignorant now...

  • If Hitler has heard this he would have given up immediately. The energy these people possess is unstoppable. This was America in 1941.

  • it sounds like one of the songs from fallout 3

  • Always reminds me of Tom & Jerry when I listen to this, ah child hood memories...

  • @matthias8263 lol. im 15 and love it

  • @DUDEfounder I'm 18 and i like it to it was my grandfather favourit music but he was very old.

  • @madjanssen Ik woon in Schoten (provincie Antwerpen) in Belgie mijn vaderland.

  • Been looking all over for this song, which I unearthed doing research about the Armed Forces Radio Service. I'm finding a place where I can buy this and will upload it to my iPod, right there next to Janelle Monae & Miles Davis.

  • It took me forever to find this song, its been in my head for weeks. And finally i heard it again on tv and was able to find it. Does it feel as good as thought it would. Oh yes!

  • Just went to my uncle's memorial service a week ago. (He was almost 92. WWII and Korean War vet.) A recording of this was played right after the Navy guys did the flag ceremony, as the last part of the service. It was great! Everyone went to a huge luncheon feeling all lighthearted from hearing this.

  • Old school.....

  • 102 will be beaten by a big band
