I was practically raised listening to these guys. Now, when i hear that they have a new album out, it's like being told an awesome relative is back in town.
This song is just perfect, and so powerful on stage. I loved it before seeing them live, and I could never imagine it was so good in a concert. The best song of the album, side by side with The Boxer.
thats what pisses me off, all the cool guitar and drums bands are going synthy to keep up with the time. thats why its so hard for bands to break through nowadays cos nobody cares about real music with real emotion they just want synth and melody BASTARDS.
Aw man, I was sourcing 30's artwork for a project and wanted to 'appropriate' the style of Tom Purvis's paintings and then I see this album cover on Jimmy Kimmel. Someone's onto me...
I couldnt agree more at first couple listens. Kind of thought they lost the direction of the song. However, I think this song does a great job of painting an image.. This sound is so vivid and conveys the dark alley ways and night lights of London properly well.
i actually think its fine the way it is. i saw them live, when they performed this song, trust me, it builds the anticipation and excitement and once it hits off....excellence
surely an huge similarity with prodigy, could be the conctat in SZIGET FESTIVAL!!! .. Tom was jst next to me in mokachica afterhours..6:40 a.m ahahahah..a bit posh, but is Tom :D
The synth (especialy the analog one) when is used with brain and without those horrible kick drum techno bullshit, gives the music a bit of "gravy" and special touch, this is copied '80s music with a bit newer sound and i like it!
I don't like this recent move towards synth in a bunch of bands. First Linkin Park, then Keane, and now Editors? What the crap happened to good old instruments?
You cant get as dark as this without the synth the guitar just cant do it alone. It compliments the meaning of the album well. Playing one sound ie the guitar album after album doesnt show much talent. The Editors are incredibly talented whatever instrument they use. Its refreshing to see rock bands with a wide variety of taste in music. You never know what they'll hit you with next.
I'm agree with Emmegel, but I have found some great songs. Papillon, In This Light And On This Evening, The Boxer, This House Is Full Of Noise are excellent. But it sounds different compared with the last album, but I like when a band tries something new... And it is a success!

I was walking through Soho the other evening as it was getting dark - with this song going round in my head - awesome.
Reminds me a bit of Fields of the Nephilim.

Absolutely wonderful song. Although I'm disconcerted that every mainstream indie band from 4 years ago has started doing electro...

The Editors are one of my favorites bands too (next to Tool) and this song is for me the best they ever made! I hope they never change a note on it!
2lucien 2 years ago
@2lucien excellent choice lol. Tool are my favourite band too, as are the editors, joy division, new order and NIN.

Fantastic intro! but when it eventually gets into the song it's a real let down.
I'm a real fan of the editors but they could have done so much more with this song. I hope they re-release it with a different arrangement.

Hey Theguywhoplaysguitar ,in actuality Pink Floyd used a lot of synths, like in "Welcome to the machine",look it up.

you are totally right! What happened to the good old piano keane used??? Tom smiths voice sounded so much better without all this synth...

I posted this "UnOfficial Video" because i find just "live version" of this song... I hope you like it.
This song, with Papillon, is the best, in my opinion, of the entire album.
An album not such electronic as the Editors said and not so good as "An End as a Start"... always in my opinion ;-)
