so glad some people are finding this a useful video. cheers, and post some videos on the response if u got time, I'd love to see how people have interpreted this lesson into their playing.
Nice one - very helpful. Banjo's the true delta accent! whether a blues or hoe down, Afro-Americans played them all over, till the cheap factory stella guitars took over. record comps later decided that folks didn't want to hear black country string players, so fiddlers and banjoists suffered, and were forced to give up. style was nearly lost, but the banjo is the root man-made device for Afro-American folk music and is re-emerging. reclaim the banjo!
Fantastic.. I can't wait to experiment. I bought a slide months ago, but haven't really played with it yet. I love blues on the jo.. and it's so damned deviant! Thanks for playing 'outside the box' and being Banjo Deviant like so many of us.
Outstanding! My view of the banjo has always been that the "Deliverance" P.O.V. has maligned a beautiful instrument in the eyes of the uneducated and more ignorant members of society.
The 'bluesy' feel has made me determined to start out on the banjo as well as the Dobro guitar I'm learning at present.
thank you very much you really helped get me out of a slump. I ve been playing with some old blue grass boys, and I like blues. So this will definitly help.
I am bummed that the video skipped a couple times, messing up my mojo rhythm. Oh well!!!! I hope this helps someone! The banjo is a very underestimated instrument!
Which tuning is being used here?

Banjo is seriously the best sounding blues instrument. It's got the blues tone and then the country twang to it. I love it!

Thanks so much for posting this. I started teaching myself the banjo intending more or less only to learn blues on it.
There is a bunch of videos out there that touch the subject but this has a bunch of great shots on it! specially with the slide.
Sounds mean and pure delta. I love it. thanks!

I never thought of it that way, that the banjo is a pure delta sound. That makes total sense. The banjo is one of the most underrated instruments.

Are you using a pick?

no just my fingers, but you can use a pick if you want too as well.

I didn't think so, but I couldn't see your fingers to tell! Just curious. This is a super helpful video.
