@KingofTitanium ADA Amazonia Soil - it's the best stuff for plants. If you can't get it, then Fluval Stratum is good too. Once you get it, you need to rinse it several times (especially Fluval Stratum) before you put it in the tank. It will cloud the water for 24-48 hours, but I would let the tank run with just the substrate (and maybe driftwood) for a week before you even begin planting. It just makes it easier.
What lighting do you use and what is the size of the tanke?

@KingofTitanium Just basic 2 x 20W fluorescents 15,000K. The tank is 24" x 16" x 18". U can check the specs online, it's an Aqua One AR-F620.
