    SANG IT EDDIE...EEER....I MEAN WILSON!

  • how is this rare when it is the only version you can find on anal lube?

  • I nterviewed Wilson Pickett in 1978 and he was great. Remarkably, this Grammy winner only reached #23 on the pop charts in 1966 but remains a stone classic. Whenver I hear it, though, I always think of an editorial cartoon which appeared in the paper the day after Wilson died (January 19, 2006). It showed a '65 Ford Mustang with a teenage girl in a weatshirt standing next to it. On her shirt was the name "Sally" -- and she was weeping.

  • This guy has everything: a voice to rival James Brown's, and very, very easy on the eyes - like Otis Redding....yummmmmmmmmm

  • damn!AWESOME stuff!thanx for uploading-that`s some real SOUL right here.......

  • Hendrix played with this guy too back in the day....

  • Awsome!

  • Bring it!!!!

    Priceless.

  • Good news folks Justin going to cover this song. He's going to add a whole lotta soul!

  • This Was Sampled In Check Yo Self (Original) By Ice Cube Feat. Das-EFX

  • 3:03 YouTube video: Wilson Picket performing his 1966 hit Mustang Sally.

March 18, 1941: birth of Wilson Pickett, American singer (d. 2006); hits include "In the Midnight Hour," "Land of 1,000 Dances," and "Mustang Sally."

  • What a voice!!! :)

  • strat player in the video is a right handed player. Jimi hendrix was a lefty.

  • I had to jump out of my chair and dance to this one!

  • oh..ok, closer look... its not Hendrix!!! Sorry folks : )

  • I could swear the guitarist with the Stratocaster is a VERY young Jimi Hendrix!!??

(he did gig with Pickett for a short while in mid sixties)

  • The master nuff said

  • Wow, and they buried him in my hometown, Louisville Ky.,. this is what they called Soul, or later Funk.

  • the masterful and only.stop the others murdering this pearl, pleeeeeease.

  • Hair was straightened and in the 60's you wore an Afro..When the Black Power Movement began.

  • Ah, the art of the well-placed scream.

  • That's Eddie Murphy. lol

  • @guitardriver9 will you all stop with that eddie murphy shyt.. WILSON PICKETT WAS around before Eddie was born.

  • Love this song my boyfriend in our parts has been known as mustang Ray for years

  • 1965 Ford Mustang

  • i dont recall cats with full out blow fros in 65? wilson pickett had a process in that era! this could be a liitle later. like 68 or 69

  • @ozulu45 yes Afro's were in in 1965-76 it was all over the place.. go see soul train.

  • SOUL

  • sometimes, you just gotta go to the source.

  • GREAT SONG 4EVER!!!!*****5+ Yeah....See you my guitar version!!!

  • Thank you!

  • When I bought my girlfriend a new Mustang around 1998 here in Kyiv, she really was THE Mustang Sally of the time... Knocking M'B's off the road at stop sign races... Then, she'd roll down the dark windows and show them she was a Blond... TOOOO incredible!!!!! and now, it's a new Lexus... and a little softer... well, she's almost 38 *-)))

  • I shout allways with him

  • Loved this era of a line of barry sax players backing up Wilson along with the horns. Pure stuff like the backup for Little Richard and Fats Domino a decade earlier.

  • That's what I call music!!!!

  • I am THE MUSTANG SALLY. Just gotta buy a MUSTANG. LOL!!!

  • Loved Wilson and this song lives on forever !! definately timeless !!!

  • The guitar player is Charles "Skip" Pitts who is also responsible for the wah wah on Shaft and the guitar lick on Its Your Thing by the Isley Brothers. After leaving Pickett Pitts played for Issac Hayes for 37 years. He recently appeared (May 2010) with Cyndi Lauper on Donald Trump's Apprentice show finale.

  • @berncj - thanks for sharing this information!! mmrudi

  • A great song about a great car.

  • Artists today need to bring this sound back! This is MUSIC!

  • Man that's quite a band! Six horns, two guitars, bass, drums. I'm not sure about organ. I can't hear or see one.

  • 3 chord junk....they make it all up in 15 min......its 3 chord junk....

  • bad sound quality...

  • Definitely digging that Horn Section...OLD SCHOOL RULES!!!......

  • Just put my Sally on the road after a long winter.Ride sally ride!=]

  • Now I know I'm not the only guy who ever dated a Sally who drove a 1965 Mustang BUT I sure as hell did. Sally Elizabeth Arnold was her name and MAN could this wonderful lady dance! Geeeez. We were both our of the Class of 1965 (Santa Fe High School/Santa Fe Springs, Ca.) and when I got back from the war at the end of 1970 we started dating. We almost lived at the Golden Sails in Seal Beach, Ca. during 1971 ~ should have asked her to marry me but I didn't. She now lives in Lakeport, Ca.

  • One of the greats! Thanks for posting the video.

  • We used to have a cat named Sassy, she's in kitty cat heaven now but we used to sing this song to her and we'd sing "Mustang Sassy" to her. She really loved Wilson Picket. lol

  • LOVE IT!

  • my mom likes this song!

  • wilson and otis redding were very much alike

  • Thank you so much!

  • What R&B/Soul artist of the 60's suggested to change the hook-"Mustang Mama" to "Mustang Sally"??

  • man some songs just live forever and this is one of those =D

  • Wilson Picket forever

  • your'e so right i agree with you

  • Great Song! If anyone ever make a movie of him, Eddie Murphy can play him..

  • You're right!

  • yea Eddie could use the money

  • or Clifton Powell but i think Eddie would be better after seeing him in Dream Girls. LOL

  • Ha ha haha, i can't stop listen ,this song!!!!!!Awesome song!

  • never knew wilson picket did this song. sounds fantastic

  • This and "In the Midnight Hour" were really his 'signature' tunes -- rightbehind them were such classics as Funky Broadway, Land of 1,000 Dances, and Everybody Needs Somebody to Love. But his whole body of work was awesome.

I guess it could just have easily been "Camaro Sally" if it weren't for the extra syllable... :-)

  • PS: didn't mean to spoil the party's vibe with that reference to RS's lame omission of this true master from their list.

What's cool -- and you can see it in the chatter on some of the other Pickett videos on this site -- is that Youtube videos make true talent available to a whole new generation of viewers/listeners, provided they get an initial lead to it.

Example: see Aho1412 above, whose Dad lent him the LP's that planted the seed to enjoy Pickett, Redding, Brown, Gaye, etc... :-)

  • Good Lord -- that is one stunning clip! ! !

Like this one even better than the recording itself (which is no small thing) -- the Wicked Pickett in top form, with terrific backing.

Rolling Stone magazine put out a list of "100 Immortals" a few years back that somehow failed to list Wilson Pickett. Speaks volumes about the cranial-rectal inversion of those who drew up the list.

    Thanks a ton for posting...

  • now this is the goods ,it gives me the chills and lil goose bumps.i loove this music

  • Great song - I've danced to this great song many times, thanks, Wilson - great video!

  • Awesome!

    Thx for uploading :D

  • LHM

  • Man, bring the funk! This song is timeless!

  • @vdoman - ABSOLUTELY !

  • and WILSON said slow that mustang down! yeah sally u girl........ lol LORD HAVE MERCY!

  • RESPECT A WILSON/ JAMES/ OTIS/ MARVIN/

  • wicked pickett- great song

  • That man is FUNKY!

  • bra this man had the moves and the voice to go with the moves hardout we are blessed to see this man in action where would we be without this internet thing

  • Thank you,

  • miiiiiiiticaaaa!

  • Thanks Montaukme! You're so right. Whether it was country, soul or pop they knew how to dress as ENTERTAINERS. I just saw a country video of Keith Urban. It looks like he just crawled out from under a rock after a 5 day crack binge! Sad. I look at old clips of Buck Owens, et al and they all had on Nudie suits. What happened?

  • great !

  • This is really unbelievable, it's so damn funky, you just gotta move to it.

  • Light years ahead of its time.

  • @jtomasik How?

  • Awesome

  • This is such a party ! :D Love it :D

  • Wilson Picket est chef de file des artistes Motown...très fort

  • Lord, have mercy!!!!!!!!!

That was simply great. There will never be anyone that comes close to this man.

Thank you for sharing this absolute gem!

  • good looking group. was that a requirement to get in the band?

  • No, it wasn't a requirement. It's just that "back in the day," men knew that the first requirement for "looking fine" was to actually make the effort to do so-- beginning with a bath, a shave, and clean clothes that had seen the underside of a hot iron, and the top side of an ironing board. Peace!! from an old schooler.

  • I wish we still had it! they looked fantastic, sharp and very attractive :) Men just look better in a good suit!

  • I wear suits everyday for work except SAt/Sun......but I try to look my best.........take care partner

  • well they sound geat, look great and look professional

  • ricky...........another great tune by a group that was and had so much soul added to their music

  • Is that Hendrix playing the guitar? Sounds like him and he did used to play with Wilson Picket

  • I see two guitar players but none of them is left handed so i guess it's not Hendrix playing on this one.....

  • Rhythm section is kickin'! And yeah, he does look like Eddie Murphy.

  • Got that right. This has a hell of a lot more groove going on than the "standard" Mustang Sally. Actually a little funk groove working here, drums and bass locked in TIGHT...and he looks more like CHARLIE Murphy, than Eddie.

  • super gr8.....will get a party started....trust me......

  • doesn't he remind you of Eddie Murphy now Eddie could cover this song

  • Eddie Murphy's a dork lol

  • yeah, he does look alot like Eddie Murphy ;)

  • Otis Redding! Not Wilson Picket

  • thats the wicket 'wilson picket'

  • What is the source of this performance? its a great performance, and the song is from 1965, but I would place this performance by Pickett from somewhere around 69-71, judging by how Wilsons face had filled out and his afro and clothing. Until about 69, he performed in suits only, had more of pompadour, and was extremely thin.

thanks for the awesome post-this guy was one of the best ever, and performances of this song live are indeed very rare

  • I hate this song

  • so why are you listening this song? it clearly says "MUSTANG SALLY"! that is real music!

  • So?

  • Wow! great stuff. Thanks for uploading.

  • no not anybody, me!

  • Back then there was music.

  • Eddie Murphy could play the character for this guy if they made a movie of his life.LOL

  • iv thier is 1 white boy that could sing like this!i wish it would be me "SMOK'IN"

  • that applies to anybody

  • Try Wayne Cochrane

  • Well dressed brothers had lot of style back then.

  • awweeesome song

    heehee, true bout the pipe

    i likee the pipeee :P

  • Male Soul singers back in the days had much more personality, and huge pipe

  • Male soul singers back in the days looked like men, dressed like men and were exciting to watch!

  • female as well

  • Wow, this takes the recorded version we're all familiar with to a completely new level. The intensity and quality of this performance has floored me. Thank you so much for sharing this video with us all

  • I would have no problem if this song lasted 20 minutes.

  • Amen...

  • better live fo sho!

  • the greatest voice ever

  • love this song...
