  • how do i make a commutator out of tape please and what does it do,sorry for the dumb questions ,,,great vid,,

  • Simply try blocking aprox 50% of the shaft diameter with tape blocking off the segment which you dont want the coil to fire on. One you get it working you can then play around with making the tape smaller to play with the timing.. Tape should only be used to try it out. A much better commutator will be required as the tape wears out rather quickly and is not accurate.

  • How do you put the magnets on? What's the white thing?

  • The white thing is a chunk of Virgin Teflon. I drilled a hole on each end and inserted 2 neo magnets into each hole, flush mounted. I then drilled a hole in the center to pass the axle through, then sxuperglued the teflon to the axle.. pretty simple design, super glue works awesome!

  • The white thing is a piece of teflon rod stock. At the ends of this teflon bar I have drilled holes to flush mount the magents. One magnet face north one magnet face south. You can really use anything as long as the magents are spaced properly inside the coil and stay secured to the shaft.

  • ??? how can drive + on the same axel as -

  • The circuit is broken several times per revolution so they are not both connected at all times.

  • What type of capacitor is it and what value ?

  • It's not actually a capacitor, it's a dead cordless phone battery I was trying to charge up with this motor.. So it was actually a load on the system because it was dead.

  • Nice motor..just a question..do you have two commutator connections or just one ?

  • just a VERY basic commutator here made from tape with gaps.. in my newer vids, I show a slighty improved commutator using copper wire posts.. Thanks for checking out my vids.. Bigger version to come!

  • Nice work! Doesn´t matter what some non-thinking people say. Just go on! :)

  • Sorry, I wasn't aware that there had to be a "big deal" in order to post a vid here. Maybe they should call this site "BigDealTube"? lol..

No, big deal, One interesting thing is though, If I take a single AA battery that is dead, and wont even light an LED and hook it up to this motor, it will still make it spin.. if the battery does not have enough juice to light an LED, how can the same battery power this motor.. more vids to come to show these interesting measurements

  • So you made a motor that runs on batteries. Whats the big deal?
