  • you have a funny 'a'

  • For me, Californian accent is the most understandable accent in US. Unlike Southern or Boston etc.

  • hot!

  • haha thats so funny ! i was telling my mom one time how canadians only pronounce like "sorry" & "out" differently lol. (got it from degrassi) lol

  • I'm from Oregon. I Can't hear your accent but relatives from the Midwest have told me that Oregonian and Californian accents are different.

  • where do you live in O.C.? aand which beach did you went to for the bonfire?

  • From an English point of view, it comes across as classic American (not southern or new jersey)

  • Definitely an accent!! I'm Irish and this sounds so foreign!

  • @jwacqui yeah, it is an accent, but the Irish pronunciation is kindof an accent too, isn't it?

  • @dasalkodil It sure is!! :-) As you can tell from my vids!

  • (I'm a girl)

  • Ur voice is so fit LOL

  • I grew up in California, but when I moved to Minnesota with my parents, a lot of people said that I have a small accent.

  • Orange County!!! Yayaya!!! Moved to Carmel :* And I don't think californians have an accent its more like the over use of "umm" and "like" and "you know" and the fact we pronounce the "R" xD

  • what do u think of hong kong people?

  • I wanna go to another country or state for a while and get another accent, just so I can come back and see what we sound like to others. I bet would be wierd haha

  • cute gay boy

  • one thing is for sure...u are cute!

  • okay, you are soo cute! haha

and yes you do have an accent, listen to your 'but' (1:00)

  • haha the degrassi kids always spoke pretty normal from what i could tell. but then, sometimes they would let a "soRRy" slip and it sounds kind of annoying >.<

  • Schizophrenic?

  • Not "a boot", but " a boat"....

  • it feels like i dont have an accent (californian) maybe cuz im used to it or i guess

  • Everyone here in OC (the guys that is) have the same "accent" if you consider it one, as you. Interesting.

  • Hahaha I'm from Cali OC XDDD LOL I would definitely miss the palm trees!!! Hmm I can't really tell if I have a Cali accent bcus everyone around me basically talks the same (except for mi mum:) she kinda has a spanish accent

  • Its not an accent

  • Yes people on the east coast have bonfires. Just not always by the beach... but sometimes. Lived near Philly for 7 years. Grew up in Northern California. Hate the abbreviations NorCal and SoCal. Getting used to "Cali" but not a huge fan. Just like we Northerners hate the city being called "Frisco" there's already a Frisco, TX and Frisco, CO. No need to confuse people anymore.

TV stereotypes are awful on all dialects...

  • @mattman2900 Yeah your right, i actually went to a bonfire on top of a mountain once it was pretty cool. Then it turned into a sleep over on the mountain... which was not cool cause i woke up in the middle of the night in below freezing weather hahaha.

When I talked about the dialect used most often on the television, I didn't mean stereotypes, I simply meant that most people on television/movies are from Southern California (see i didn't use socal haha) or the New York Metropolitan Area.

  • Lol, when you said "Canadians" you raised up your finger. Would've you pointed it down if you'd talked about Mexico or Brazil?

  • @Deborah8678 Haha i'm pretty sure I would have, for some reason when I talk about foreign places ( or even different cities) I usually have a map in my head. For example, I hate it when people say "i'm going down to San Fran" since it is to the north of Orange County, ... but that's just me

  • @ChannelPV my comment to your comment is abit late but still wanna say sth!! I live in Van I would say I'm going down to California for Christmas Break or I would say I'm going up north to Whistler to Ski for Christmas Break. :) Californian is legit!!

  • @Deborah8678 lol hahaha

  • I lived in Britain and Canada for most of my life, and I pretty much have a Canadian accent and I agree that we pronounce it like "sorrrr-y" and "a-boat" but apart from those minor things I don't think we sound that different!

  • @MissZoeAlexis Yeah I agree, its strange how the standard accents of California, New York, and Canada aren't that different (appart from a few distinct points) while the midwest and the south of the United States have crazy accents! (although that is also a stereotype since I know people from Texas that do not have the typical Texan Accent)

  • wiki california english [it does have similarites to canadian english, you can also wiki] so thats a yes to californians having an accent.

Everyone except mutes have an accent. They use general american [can wiki that too] on tv/movies, which is not californian at all, cause if they did, people would notice the sound.

  • @thePsyGuy Yes you can wiki california english and come up with the "valley girl" accent and so forth, and I realize that news anchors and other television personalities have to modify their manner of speaking to achieve "SAE" but most hollywood actors don't change their accents when acting (unless purposely supposed to do so). what would be a difference between standard american english and californian english? maybe the fact that we combine /t/ and /d/ into [r] more frequently than most?

  • @ChannelPV

All you got was valley girl? California english leads to the california vowel shift, which makes a group of common vowels sound very different than their SAE counterparts, which is also different than valley girl. turning /t/ and /d/ to [r] is very north american in general. [im guessing thats flapping/tapping, like in 'butter']

  • I'm from New Zealand and to me the Californian accent is probably the ones that I'm most used to hearing in movies and on TV...I'm sure you would never be aware of your accent till you go somewhere else, and even then you may be the one that thinks that everybody else has the accent...to me it doesn't have anything very distinct about it as the New York, Boston or Texan accents have

  • @ogringofromdownunder yeah that's what I was thinking, i know that the california accent is an accent, but as far as accents are concerned is the closest to being the "standard" (at least for american accents)

  • my cousins in australia have christmas beach bonfire bbq's :D

  • @Aznspiritofice u have cousins in australia?!? lol that's so awesome i can just imagine a bonfire with a kanguroo jumping around (i'm pretty sure i misspelled that and not only because there's a red line under it haha).

  • "I got this information from watching Degrassi" xD that is how I know they say sorry and about differently too... They actually say sorry so often in that series that on multiple occasions, I've said sorry like a Canadian would O_o

  • @isiticedtea I KNOW! i actually hung out with this girl from michigan and she said sorry like canadians and after a couple days i said it too by accident! haha

  • @RUDEGOOD cool! i saw your profile and am going to guess that you're italian? well i though european ppl thought that british english was easier to understand since it is what they learn in school, is that true? (my bad attempt at italian-> mi chiamo pedro e non parlo italiano <- haha)

  • @RUDEGOOD sorry! i deleted your comment lol, i was going to click reply, but it deleted the comment :-((
