I like the video player on "reggaelinx website"better, it allows you to zoom in and play in slow motion. Plus they allow you to play your own playlist. You guys should check it out.
I dont know a lot about naming chords, but it is what I call an A minor, with the first finger used as a fret. then he lifts the midle finger off. Very simple really, but he is obviously a very fluid and well practiced player!
Hi - appreciate the kind words - I have not reviewed this guitar in a video as yet - maybe I can do that in the future - its a mid 1990s fender custom shop MOTO stratocaster - very cool birds eye maple neck and texas specials pickups with the mother of pearl on the pickguard and over the painted headstock - all stock
@rockongoodpeople hey man i really need help mastering this. i really suck man i just started, and my fingers are real slow when i move them up strings and all. can you help?
@TheEmanzi It's far easier to bar the low fret with your index finger for the regular G than it is to bar the highest frets in drop D tuning. Work at it a bit, but regular bar cords become so much easier once you get over the hump.
that sucks that you guys got shut down for teaching songs when there are soooo many other peeps on youtube that did and still do! Guess they only go after the big guys
That is neither Ska, nor Reggae. it would be better if you try to move your right hand the double of the speed to get a better Sakanking. I mean, if you are playing 4 notes, then your right hand should move in 8 notes on the muted movement and 4 notes when you let the strings sound., otherways it would sound like surfers music.but not Ska deffinitelly. Also, try to reverse the movement.... instead of going up on the second tempo, try it to go down, and you'll see how it sounds much better.
He kind of reminds me of Nicholas Cage.

What tunings are commonly used for ska/reggae/dub rhythms? Also how can one alternate it to being a fast picking (i.e. ska-punk)?

@rusteeeeeeeeeeeeeeez if you cant "kill" the strings by releasing pressure....try a palm mute to end the note.

Nobody plays guitar like this in reggae (except maybe bros from Orange County?). And the chord progression is also "super" uncommon.
hultonclint 1 year ago
@hultonclint shows what you know....dummy. Dirty Heads just used this progression in their number 1 Lay Me Down

Its easier in drop D tuning, for example instead of playing G-355433 its G-555433 all you need then is a strong finger or a slide thingy.

@TheEmanzi or you can just bar the 3, it's more practical if you can do it
