one of my favourites ever...so underated but the level in 1994 was high..this is one of the songs that has that something that as time goes by the song remains ....
I think all of the Eurovision songs that year that Frances sang were pretty incredible. This one remains my favourite. She just bites into those stellar lyrics and makes every single syllable matter.
After listening to this studio version and recalling the live performancesthat year I can easily say that the song is quite nice quite modern and very musically creative to encorporate classic with urban beats, the chorus is quite uplifting and lyrically powerful. Her vocals however with all due respect don't impress me at all. I think her daughter sings better. Plus: this could be far more sucessful everywhere else but it was not the most suitable song for ESC.
This studio version is quite special...a lot darker than you'd expect from a Eurovision entry really. I notice they got rid of the more brooding lines for the song as performed on the night! Also nice to hear those sort of stacatto strings that you seem to get a lot on early 90s stuff :)
Absolutely fantastic - not heard this for a while - got the 7" record somewhere! I had this down as the outright winner that year. It's amazing how the best songs never win at ESC - Yohanna "Is it true?" No2 (2009), Shiri Maimon "Time to say goodbye" No4 (2005) and this one No10 (1995)
@johnthefarmer - this is definitely one the UK's best entries, but also Imaani "Where Are You" from 1998, which should have won, but came second to the hype that was the Israeli transgender entry from Dana International.

I'll tell you why you didn't win: because it's not song contest anymore - it's contest called "vote for your neighbours"... Croatia votes for Makedonia, Makedonia votes for Serbia, Serbia votes for Bosnia, Bosnia votes for Montenegro, Montenegro votes for Slovenia, Slovenia votes for Croatia, All Europe Votes for Turkey... It's not the song contest anymore....
the best ones, frances ruffelle, lindsay dracass and jessica garlick, and not to mention samantha janus!

Entering Eurovision killed her career before it had a chance to take off. A pity. She's fit.

Lol, me too. What was i thinking about?
Actually, no, i take that back. Retrospectively, this is the best song we the U.K have had to date, bar none!
The rest have been utter shite.

Great song.
Remember listening to this back in Greece when I was like 14 and not knowing who on earth the singer was or what the actual song was called!
