  • Dennis Shaw is my brother. He was co-driver of the #1 car with Johnson and Brolin. He had a great racing career spanning some 18 years. He was the 1985 season champion of the IMSA Champion Spark Plug Challenge. He drove to several GTU class victories in the 24 Hours of Daytona in the Team Highball Mazda RX7. He is now a successful builder of racing engines in Raleigh, NC as Dennis Shaw Racesports. His engines run at the front of the grid.

  • I believe I'm the only one to see both 1979 AMX cars in 2009. The #2 car was owned by a Cleveland Ohio area AMC club member but had sold it a few weeks earlier. I then researched the 1979 Nurburgring AMXs and located car #1. I had business in Minnesota that year and contacted that owner, visited, took pictures and he even gave me a ride. He has since sold his business but not sure if he still owns the #1 car. I'm now planning on racing on 'Fundays' at Nelson Ledges-79 AMX

  • The #1 Spirit is a few hundred feet from my desk everyday ;)

  • thank you very very much for uploading this rare and historic footage of one of the most legendary racing events in the world.

One hint, if you want more hits for this video add the word Nordschleife, as today Nürburgring stands more for the Grand Prix Course, or even better add 24h Nordschleife 1979.

Footage is really rare about that time on Nordschleife and with the one armed veteran this is really priceless.
