    That is a topic in Strategic Management, for a number of reasons for big companies is much more difficult to create radical new innovations (organizational inertia, established culture, structured processes,.. that narrows your sight) than for brand new companies. It is also part of the cycle of life of companies, the older and bigger you are the less agile. Big companies focus on incremental innovations.

    That's why Google, Facebook, Apple, Cisco, ... are buying now little companies.
